I have been looking for a TV that can replace monitor too. This 8 series Samsung TV With 100 motion rate should not have any problems to play games.

I think this is 2020 model (RRP $999) and TGG has it for $895.

I found a detailed review of TU8000 series here, so you can decide.

  • Can this be used as monitor for laptop ?

    • Yes it can be.

just watched a few reviews, barely keeps pace with the RU model previous in many ways, will hold off for a Q70T

  • How does this compare to the RU8000? Seems a decent price for the 65"

    • +2

      I found this comparison.

    • +4

smart marketing by samsung, I think 2020 models TU8000 is equivalent to UM7100 not RU80000, do research before buying

      • +3

The review on the rtings link above highlights exactly this. It seems the RU8000 is still the better model despite being last years.

        • +1

Yep & only slightly better then 7100 but higher prices, would wait for better deals to come

        • That seemed to be the same deal with the 2018 NU models too. That line seems to be getting worse each year.

    • +8

Its worse than the RU8000. Which was worse than the N8000. Beware Samsungs latest marketing.

  • Is this the same as last years series 7? I can’t find the series 7 on the website. Seems like a marketing thing to make people think they are getting a better tv..

  • What's the refresh rate

  • +1

Be careful of marketing term refering in refresh rate https://www.cnet.com/news/beware-fake-120hz-refresh-rates-on…

  • No zoned backlighting?

  • +4

Looking at your rting link - this is just a 60/50hz panel with interpolation, if buying for gaming please take into consideration that this is not a 120hz panel.

  • +1

Works with Apple TV ? ie if you plug one into it?

    • +1

sell the Atv as this has it built-in.

  • +3

Also, as a side note…Samsung have started embedding adverts into the GUI, bloody annoying and from all the research I’ve read, you cannot turn it off. There are some adblocker work arounds you can employ at router level, but this should not be necessary in the first place.

I have removed all network functionality from mine and use a Vodafone TV box for all the smarts, this is the last Samsung product I will ever own!!

  • With my limited knowledge of TVs and after a bit of research I found this as a good deal. Could any one please suggested a better 43” TV with these set of features in $700-800? TIA.

  • Paid a bit more for the larger TV and 200hz motion rate which I think is better value.

  • Anyone got a handle on the new product range or release dates? I've been waiting for a direct replacement to the RU8000

    • +2

if you want a ru8000 get it. The equivalent will be downgraded just like it was compared to the NU8000. Samsung doesn't improve their TV's year to year. They downgrade/sidegrade them and force you to go to the next price tier if you want an upgrade.

    • +2

This is a worse line than the RU range. Always fun when a Product range gets worse every year. THe NU8000 in 2018 is a considerably better TV than the 2020 models.

    • Thanks for the opinions on this, I've always been a Samsung fan so disappointing to see.. I'm wondering if the shift is to pull the Q60/70 into that more midrange entry tier and the above is the new 7100, to make a more budget 7100?.. I have the ru7100 43" and it does the job (monitor), but I also have a 5 year old 65" top tier samsung that is stunning in normal HD quality I'm wanting to replace, so may have to look at the new Q tiers..
