VICTORIA, Blackburn South; United Petrol: Unleaded was ~ $1.36 per litre at 10:11pm

344

I don't know how long till they up their price like everyone else. It's probably only worth checking, if you will be passing them soon (and not going out of your way to get there)

If you are passing the Blackburn South area, I just filled up some unleaded petrol at $1.36 per litre at

United Petrol
112-124 Middleborough Road
Blackburn South, Victoria 3130

Note: I've never used them before, but since the others hiked their prices up to $1.50+ today, I thought I'd give this station a try.

Note: That was the price at 10:11pm

I wrote VIC in the title. You're in Brisbane. This does not apply to you.
Preferrably un neg this so people who live here can see it.

The price here, was $1.36 this morning. The stations upped it to $1.52 during the day. That's a 16 cent jump mid week, in the middle of the day.

This one had not upped their price as of an hour ago. Still just $1.36, which is almost 10% cheaper than the others.

It won't help many but it might help a few.

      • +2

isn't this why the govt set up fuelwatch?

        • Yet the stupid thing never came to VIC

      • +4

Saw this on today tonight a while ago. Its not only this shop, it's all part of United's plan to take on the big fuel companies (and well done to them!!)

        http://au.news.yahoo.com/today-tonight/article/-/10176859/pe…

Thanks for the post OP.. now I know at least there is one United that's fighting back near my place :).

        • +1

Generally, given the quality of their 'journalism' quoting today tonight/ACA as references aren't recommended :p

  • -2

That was the price of their regular unleaded.

  • +9

I don't think fuel bargains should be posted as people can use sites such as http://www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au/fuelwatch/pages/home.jspx?rvn… (this is for WA) to check for prices.

As far as I know they change their prices at 6am and must keep them that price for 24 hours.

$1.33 is the cheapest in WA(north and south of the river) for tonight and tomorrow, but yes many stations are increasing their price to around the $1.50 mark tomorrow.

    • +1

Yeah, I'm not sure about a 24 hour guarantee. If there is one for VIC … they changed the prices sometime during the day today, for the petrol stations I passed in the morning (and again in the afternoon).

There's a national website, $1.36 seems to be the average price around that area.

Also found from the FAQs on that site.
"How often are the fuel prices updated?
Prices that are sent to MotorMouth directly from the major fuel retailers, are updated twice daily at 8:45am and 4:45pm.

Prices that are collected by MotorMouth drivers are updated once a day. Fuel prices are progressively updated between 6am and 3pm each day…"

        • +5

I passed a number of those stations listing $1.35 and they were $1.50 to $1.52 :S

        • The companion to the motormouth site is:
          http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/860637

which doesn't tell you the price today, but does tell you how the price has been varying so you can pick the best day to fill up.

Looking at it today it seems as if something has upset the little dears. They stayed low longer than usual last cycle and have hiccuped during the downward path of this. Either way, this price isn't really remarkable, they should test $1.34 before long.

  • I pumped today at about 3pm regular unleaded $1.35 Cnr Fairfield Rd & Malouf St, Guildford, NSW, 2161

    • Lucky, must be delayed prices.. all Shell/Caltex stations on the way home were $1.50+

  • +1

Worthy post. I was thinking of filling up yesterday because prices were around $1.34/l but thought they might drop later in the week and today they rocketed to $1.49/l :/

I fill up about 90lt/week so any saving I get is welcome!

Today's XKCD is surprisingly relevant too: https://www.xkcd.com/951/

    • +1

It may well have changed by the time you drive down there…

  • Really agree.
The whole of Ozbargain would be choked with changing fuel prices.
Silly post, especially from a mod.

    • +7

No; I have no intention of putting up deals for every, most or even a few, changing fuel prices.

This is 16 cents a litre. With sufficient details it may be of benefit to other OzBargainers who are passing the area shortly (or who live there).

I've highlighted who it's for. I've put in the title which area this is and the time. shrug

I think I've used fair judgement on this one. But if the other mods disagree, I respectfully defer to them (as I'm a poster on this and not really the OP).

If you're not in the area, it's not for you … maybe I'll add that to the title.

      • +4

I know that most posters are trying to help, well those without a barrow to push, but I think that area/time specific fuel deals set a precedent that could choke up Ozbargain. Thus the neg.
        I really don't care if I get pos/neg myself.
Just calling it as I see it.

        • +5

perhaps you should seek qualification from a mod whether these bargains are appropriate… oh wait.

I'd be bloody happy if someone found it in Perth 16 cents cheaper a litre than the standard.

    • +1

Being a mod doesn't mean anything. They are still human, are they not?

Having said that, I agree that if we can let bargains like these stay posted, there would almost certainly be too many posts which are very region-specific.

On this deal itself though, despite it being of no relevance to me (not in VIC) it is indeed quite a good heads up if it is $1.50+ elsewhere.

  • +1

Is this part of that whole United offering cheaper petrol thing, where they are supposedly offering petrol for around 10c cheaper…or something…heard about this on Today Tonight or one of those shows…

    • I don't think so. There was one guy operating the till. The station was full. I don't know how they change the petrol but if they need him to change the physical sign, he may have just been too swamped to change it.

    • Don't think so. That 10c off promotion runs on Saturdays I believe.

  • +3

this should be in the forum

  • It was about this price at the Caltex at 969 North Road, Murrumbeena. When I filled up a few hours ago… dunno if it'd still be at that price now

  • Almost all petrol station around Melbourne, Victoria is selling Unleaded for $135.9.

    http://motormouth.com.au/pricesearch.aspx

  • +1

Wow, over $1.50/litre? Glad I filled up last night at $1.32. I guess I won't be so lucky next time though.

  • +4

Keyboard warriors must be bored, Im yet to see a reason how this isn't a valid bargain according to the posting guidelines. This would be a great deal for me, if I only had a car!

  • +1

There were some strange petrol price happenings today. Saw $1.38 where I filled up about 2.30pm, later by 7.00pm saw $1.48 (discounted price) at a Coles Express making the normal price $1.52. This was in outer Melbourne.

  • -4

HEY I voted negative on this deal -
Did you change my vote??? WTF??

    • +5

You got 7 negs on your neg vote mate

      • +1

That revokes my vote? Hadn't noticed that one before.
        OK Fair nuff.

        • +5

Yes, once a comment gets 6 negs or more, the negatve vote against the deal gets revoked. (The neg against the deal doesn't get unrevoked if members later positive your comment to less than -6 in case you were wondering)

        • +1

for someone who doesnt know how the system works, you seem overly confident in telling people whether their bargains match the system.

        • Hey Modokun:
I tell it as I see it, honestly.
I think posting changing fuel prices is not the go for Ozbargain and I also didn't know about the 7 votes neg revoke.
So what? At least I am honest.

  • I appreciate the post, not that I can use it atm.
If you are unaware of the prices going up then this imo is a bargain.
Maybe cos I am o/s I wasnt aware of such a huge hike this week.

  • +2

Someone explain to me why it's over 1.50 a litre now?

  • I drove around for 30min last night to get to this price… positive for me

I hate when the petrol companies, especially the supermarket outlets just changing their price as their like and not following the weekly pattern. We should start a campaign boycotting these supermarket outlets… and support the smaller petrol retailers…

On the other side of thing, while not so sure, BE CAREFUL with this particular United outlet, I got my credit card hijacked after purchasing petrol from them :-(. As I said I am not 100% sure as this was the only time I had made a purchase.

Re. petrol price monitor website, in Melbourne, whilst the information is accurate, it only contains a snap shoot for a particular time of the day… i.e. early morning or early afternoon… and only updated daily… prices might change afterward… don't relay on them 100%

    • How many times do they change their prices a day in VIC?

Here in WA metro, they only do it once a day in the wee hours of the morning.

      • the thing is that prices are checked either early in the morning or early afternoon, but these buggers change their price either late morning or late afternoon…

so before you leave the office and checking those website, the price is ok, but when actually going to the petrol station the price is already up

        • +1

How often are the fuel prices updated?
Prices that are sent to MotorMouth directly from the major fuel retailers, are updated twice daily at 8:45am and 4:45pm.

Prices that are collected by MotorMouth drivers are updated once a day. Fuel prices are progressively updated between 6am and 3pm each day. It is not feasible for MotorMouth to monitor fuel prices on a 24-hour basis due to the variability of prices in the marketplace.

          From the Motormouth website.

    • wouldn't you be wasting more fuel than what you'd save if you 'drove around for 30 minutes?' given avg speed of 60km/h, 30 minutes would be around 25ish km (assuming you're stopping n such at red lights), which would cost you probably somewhere around 2-3liters of petrol (if you're on a 1.6 or 1.8 car) = $3 to $4… ?

      just saying.

  • Is there any reason petrol is currently expensive in VIC?

I'm seeing some at 1.29 on a good day here in NSW.

    • +2

profiteering… rip-off the consumers… especially those supermarket chains

  • +1

Petrol is still 1.36 at BP near the sharks (gold coast) as of 10 minutes ago.. haha should I post a bargain too?

  • Google also have a Petrol Price Tracker Gadget that is based on the motormouth updates.
    http://www.google.com.au/intl/en/help/ig/petrolprice/

  • Good to see a Mod posting a controversial deal. I saw many neggs earlier ;)

fuel prices on ozbargain? i lol'd

  • +1

hepiL is rite, prices change, and the websites don't update them. Yest morn, when I left for work (SE Melb) it was showing 132c after 4c discount. After work it was 149c! Still 140+ today, yet the websites are showing 134c min! That is so wrong!! Mate of mine worked at the bowser, said his boss upped the prices one morning, then noticed the competitor across the rd "delay" their increase, and cars queueing up there, hastily went & changed it back, down!

  • Silly bargain, not too different from the cheap bananas a few days sago…

  • +1

About time .. ozBargain .. had a dedicated "cheap petrol price of the day" list/chart - if the govt. can't do it .. we can !!

  • +1

Not a bargain, at all.. When is petrol ever a bargain??? When it's ridiculously cheap - like the time an independent put their price below wholesale for a couple of hours and had hundreds of cars waiting in line to fill up.

I drove past at least 3 petrol stations yesterday that all had this price. If anyone is stupid enough to drive by a location charging $1.50 and then not stop at the one selling it for $1.36, then that's their own fault.

And FYI: I filled up for $1.31 last night @ my local Woolworths petrol.

  • +9

Yeah not bargain - that's the going rate. it happens every week (although they do seem to be changing to gouging day regularly)

    • you comparing 6am to 10pm, can you not see what is wrong with that?

  • Yesterday my local Caltex was 131 or 133, something like that. There were many people filling tho.

  • +4

    Will Officeworks price match?

  • Caltex was 133.9 down the road for about 3 days for me (Kemps Creek, NSW). Once everyone else increased it everywhere else, Caltex did the same. Up to 149.9 for E10. So glad they still have the standard unleaded for just that 1cent extra.

The price hikes seem unjustified, esp when it takes a few days for the price to come back down.

  • This seems topical.

This is a bargain? Sometimes I see Shell petrol at $1.33/l and you can combine it with 4c discount voucher to $1.29/l

    • +3

You don't get it! He's not saying $1.36 is the cheapest price petrol has ever been, it's a bargain at that specific point in time! Seriously…. some people on here are a few cans short of a six pack.

  • -2

oz isnt the place for fuel prices, as many have pointed out it isnt really a blistering price either

  • +1

QLD, Brisbane Servo in Darra got petrol tonight (11pm) $1.38 much better then $1.51 that most other servo's currently bloody offering… total RIP!

  • Could have done with this sort of heads up last night.
Petrol up 19c a litre in Melbourne this morning.
    $1.35 a litre yesterday afternoon to $1.54.

  • It's a little odd. I got a heads up the other day. I thought, maybe prices will fall lower. I'm driving along in the evening and one of the petrol stations (United I think), put it's price up by around 13 cents. I decide to top up at one of the other stations which are all still around $1.37. Next day, the price does go up to $1.48

… I wonder when it's okay to say there's collusion on petrol prices :P
