Interesting deal, but “Coupon not found” for me….

    • Also "Coupon not found” for me … @OP please explain how to access?

  • Same

  • +2

its a student discount so i think you need to be in the student store to access.

    • how to access student store?

      • +3

        You need Unidays account.

  • +6

Damn nice if you can get it.

I'll be waiting for the AMD 4900H laptops from now on since they kill anything intel has and rivals desktops now.

    • +1

Any news on when these will be released? I havent kept upto date with the recent AMD news.

    • +3

Not directly comparable with these. These are 15W TDP CPUs (as are any others ending in U or G#), and are appropriate for lightweight portable devices with minimal cooling.

The 4900H is a 45W TDP CPU (ending in H, in both Intel and AMD nomenclature) better used in a 'gaming' or workstation laptop that's designed to sit on a desk most of the time. The Intel equivalent of those would be e.g. a i7-10875H or i9-10980HK. Given they're not yet released (nor are the AMD CPUs) it's hard to do a direct comparison, but they should be in the same ballpark.

And, yes, they'll rival desktops from a couple years back, as most 45W TDP laptop CPUs have done for the last few years. They'll also likely compete with mid-range or lower-end current desktops that also have a ~45W-65W TDP CPU. But they won't compete in sustained performance with a full power modern desktop (usually ~100W TDP).

      • +1

Well would be interesting to see if the U versions of the AMD chips are as good as the top end… In saying that the ROG Zephyrus G14 4800hs destroyed the top Intel gaming cpus and managed a decent 10hrs battery time business n browsing type usage…

Lots of reviews on those vs even 90W Intel chips… Worth watching :)

        • Yea, I'd especially like to see more competition down in the low power end. That's where it gets interesting with the lightweight (and usually cheaper) laptops. There's already some more diversity there in recent years, nice to see.

        • I'm running a 2700U Pro ThinkPad (not much difference from non-Pro mostly extra security). I have to say it's fairly disappointed, the performance is not quite up there with the top Intel 8th gen U chip, and there's a lot of issues regarding power drawn especially at idle (I can burn through 2 hot-swap 72Wh battery packs in just a day of work). But since it's pretty much the first gen Ryzen U series, I really hope their new 4000 U chips will do much better and there numbers have been promising so far.

          • @rookie317: Check out some of the reviews by hardware unboxed, the difference between last 3000 n new 4000 gen is astounding… Can't see it being different for U series as the 4800hs at 35 tdp beats Intel and amd desktop cpus… So expectations are they'll be great too but Yeh have to wait n see… Intel's been king of mobile computing for a long time….lol

  • Nice, amoled screen and 2t ssd

    • +1

Everything is very nice, i just wish they had a decent graphic card. I would have grabbed it.

      • +2

If you have the money, you could get an external gpu and connect it via thunderbolt 3 port

        • How do you do this?

          • @ilove: You wouldnt. just the external GPU case will cost around $700. Then you would buy a decent GPU like 1660Ti for around $450.

            • @parallelparadox: Razer Core X is like $470 without coupons and 1660Ti has been <$400 in the last few weeks.

              • @nodeahs: Yeah that brings it to around $3k for that setup.
I only want a decent graphic card for editing and rendering on the go. if you need to carry extra stuff then it wont be worth it.

                • +2

@parallelparadox: It's definitely not for everyone. There's better options for sure. But having the ability to have a thin and light laptop that can then connect to your home setup and do serious gaming is pretty sweet.

                  • +1

@nodeahs: Yeah it is, brother's running a XPS 9750H laptop + Razer Core X + 1080 Ti (old but still enough for him) + 2K@120Hz. We've done some quick testing (nothing comprehensive) but he's missing about ~15% at 1080p (not that noticeable since most games run at 100Hz+) compared to my 2700X, less at 2K. The performance loss is more using the laptop screen so it's highly not recommended.
It's a pretty sweet and clean setup, especially with wireless mouse, keyboard and headphone. I'm all about that pcmasterrace though.

  • I wish 4K combine with 144hz refresh rate

  • This code HP40% does not work… I tried it with student account as well

    • Not sure, it worked when I logged into UniDays and went to HP from their portal. It even has the code listed against each item advertising 40% off.

      • I just tested via UniDays and the code works.

        • +1

          Username checks out.

  • Man 2tb SSD… That's cray. So good but really dislike the hinged laptops… But still this isa very nice

I checked out the corporate price store (see past deals) and this machine shows at $3599 and out of stock. Great deal if you can access unidays!

    • Oh yeah, works well if you have access to Unidays…. :/

    • +2

CORRECTION: tried another in stock machine and the code in the deal worked for corporate store. If anyone can't access unidays and wants something from HP this code is worth trying out.

Corporate store is technically for corporate employees [a lot less of them these days]. Only accessible with a clean browser sessions without cookies or session history.

OP / Mods: if you'd like some details to post the corporate link into this deal, happy to help explain the process. 40% off is excellent OP well done!

Thanks very much! $2999->$1799 for the model I bought just now.

  • excellent laptop - glad that they still include a usb-a port along with usbc

  • +1

I bought this model last time the unidays 40% off deal was on. Beware that it'll likely take a while to build and ship. Mine had significant delays.

Great little machine. Haven't had enough time to know it's quibbles but great specs and great reviews.

  • +2

    got one thanks OP
Reviews seem to say that cpu performance under load is very inconsistent due to high thermals, but dat 4k amoled screen and 2TB ssd though

  • 1.3 turbo to 3.9. What on Earth

  • +2

Do students need this kind of laptop?
Maybe a university student? But I'm not sure what uni course requires this kind of horsepower in a laptop :/

    • It's not all that powerful all things considered, doesn't have a dedicated graphics card and it's a quad core instead of the 6 and 8 core processors on many 15 inch laptops.

It's basically the perfect student laptop if you're not needing the grunt for CAD, simulation, video editing etc as it's fast enough for most normal tasks, can take notes on the screen, plenty of ram to multitask, good battery life, light and a good quality screen.

  • +4

I really want…….but it would be so financially irresponsible.

  • -5

    Bought 10, thanks OP

  • +1

I have the i5 and non 4k version of this in the same chassis - solid laptop. I'm imagining the i7 and 4k display in this one will suck batt life? Also how noticeable is a 4k display on a 13" screen?

  • +1

Note that the OLED screen has a micron wire overlay on top of the screen to enable pen support. This can be visible and annoying and looks like a mesh on top of the screen which detract from otherwise excellent screen. HP cheapened out here

    • I checked what you said out today in jbhifi. Looked like mesh though that was being very picky with the viewing angels and lighting. The silver actually looked better then the blue gold. Though I didn't see the black one…. I reckon this over xps ><

  • Can anyone with access via UniDays confirm if the aw0086tu (RRP $2199) is also available with 40% off?

    • No it doesn't seem to be.

      • Good to know. Thanks!

    • I put it in my basket and got the discount to apply:
      SUB TOTAL $ 2,199.00
      E-VOUCHER $ 879.60
      DELIVERY $ 0.01
      TAX $ 119.95
      TOTAL
      Inclusive of GST
      $ 1,319.41

  • Can anyone recommend a cheaper HP model for a year 7 student? I want something decent that will not break the budget. I searched the website and there seems to be some great deals with the 40% off, but am overwhelmed by the options. Please help!

    • Seems like this deal is expired. The coupon is no longer working.

  • Received mine today. Bought this as I recently returned my i7 surface due to the fan not working. For the same price, this laptop is so much better than the surface. It's always quiet and doesn't heat up as much, the screen looks incredible for content consumption and light gaming, and I don't need to buy a keyboard and pen separately.

    • How accurate is the shipping date, mine was purchased on 06.04.2020, and is suggesting stock on 24.04.2020. What were your dates?

      HP Spectre x360 Conv13-aw0122TU AUST
      Part No. 9PH10PA#ABG
      Quantity: 1
      FREIGHT CHARGE
      Part No. DRFREIGHT
      Quantity: 1
      Estimated Ship Date: 24.04.2020

      • Looking at the previous posts about HP, I'd say if they are expecting stock in the future, it might come later than expected. In my case, they had stock available and the shipping time was spot on. Quoted 7/04 and arrived on that date with express shipping.

        • Thank you! When did you order? I ordered the 4k 2TB in Silver.

          • @db2k: I ordered it last Friday evening. also got the silver 4k 2tb. Loving it so far, love how small it is and the 4k screen.

            • @AryaTheExplorer: OMG!!! WOOOOOOOW what's the battery like? I read reviews that 4k is going to eat the battery, but have you done a test say … 4k normal usage in 1 day …. vs 1920 normal usage 1 day?

              • +1

@db2k: For 4k, battery life is quite similar to my previous Surface Pro 7 i7, I'd say around 6-7hrs of browsing with chrome and wifi. Battery life really depends on how much white I have on the screen and what work load, dark mode and low brightness really helps to save battery.
I don't think you'll save much battery going down to 1080p though, cus all the oled pixels would still light up.

                Review of 1080p model below
                https://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-Spectre-x360-13-aw0013dx-Co…

                • @AryaTheExplorer: Thanks, I was wondering if the 4K would get half of the 22hrs on the FHD version … seems not.

Just bought one and tried HP45% for a 45% discount. IT WORKED!!
I did try other multiples of 5 as well ;)

    • Wow, glad I did some OzBargain searching before putting my order through using the HP40%. If I hadn't come across your comments, I don't think I would have tried HP45%.
