I recently bought the 1440p version of this and am using it right now
I love it but would recommend against the 1080p version at that size. It's just too big of a screen to be running at 1080p
Great advice thanks man.
I'm also after a 27, 1440 screen.mind sharing what you paid and where from?Kogan, was $400 but might be higher now
1080p at 27" is fine.. 1080p at 32" is horrid :) 1440p at 32" is good and 1440p at 27" is bad needs scaling 125%
4k at 27" is horrid 4k at 32" is still bad and requires % scaling in windows 150% or moreSize and with the wrong scale inst always good to have
Do you find seating distance is Meaningful for monitor resolution? Or is the relatively small difference in desktop seating arrangements distances meaningless?
I’m using 4k at 32” for my Mac and it’s great, viewing at 1920x1080 with 4x density. Everything looks sharp especially text
I'm not sure how blind you are, but there's zero issues with 27" 1440p @ 100% scaling with a decent panel.
Yeah this is a preference thing. You can't say a certain res is good or bad at a particular screen size because it's different for everyone.
1440p on 27" at 100% scaling is perfect for me and what I do with it (& is generally considered the sweet spot for this size).
However I'm actually now chasing 1440p on 24" for particular reasons.
Afaik there is no 1440p one. The cheap Samsung one that is similar is only 144hz.
That's the one i have yes
Bummer for a sec there I thought it was 4K for that price lol
For those wanting a monitor for the next few months you're better off finding one for less than $300 as you'll be able to tax deduct all of it in the first year.
Might bite on this…. though the comments don't seem like people are that impressed.
This uses an AUO VA panel, and this model has been available since Q2-Q3 last year. Typically, Samsung use their own in-house panels, but they don't have any yet.
The short version: avoid it for the time being.
The long version: this is not a true 240Hz monitor, so you're paying a price premium for something that is more competent at around 120-180Hz. It will go on sale again (Samsung AU ran a deal for these at $325 or so for a month or two).
Samsung have their own in-house QLED-backlit models coming (Samsung G7 will be a 27" 1440p 240Hz), but there are inherent issues with VA panels that make 240Hz a stretch. Black to near black transition times are typically in the 15-30 ms range, when you have a target time of 4.17 ms for 240Hz, and optimally you want it to be half that again to deliver a crisp 240Hz.
TN panels have only just gotten decent at 240Hz, and IPS has shuffled into a spot just above the first 240Hz TN panels. VA is miles back.
no idea why they don't just do a 240hz TN panel for a decent price, those are like 500+ right now. instead they are flooding the market with VA panels, are the expecting the response times on VA to improve or something…
I think the problem here is the demand is considered so low, that you don't get the value of ordering in volume. Acer sold a cheap 240Hz here, but no one bought it.
If Acer bothered selling the XF252Q here for about $450, people would buy it.
FWIW, I think the Samsung G7 will start at $900ish, and then drop quite dramatically, but I'd only be looking at that for 120Hz strobing performance and movie watching, not for 240Hz (and not for general productivity due to how awful scrolling text would probably look).
true, ips and high res seem to be all the rage here
kind of miss the korean monitors on ebay they used to have, they had 144hz TN panels for ~250 really early, and those could be overclocked to 180+ apparently lol
I have a similar one (27" 2K FreeSync) and can't comment on the screen quality yet but I can say the stand is awful!! Offers no adjustment. Just an FYI for potential buyers.
