M.J. Bale Mates Rates - 30% off site-wide (free delivery over $100, otherwise $12.50)

200

Hi all, long-time lurker but first-time poster. Apologies if I've left out any necessary details. If you let me know I'll update them.

M.J. Bale have been running a 25% off sale on full-priced items for a few days now, but as of this afternoon they seem to have extended (and deepened) the sale. It is now 30% off and includes everything on the website - including items already on sale. There are some great deals to be had on already-reduced suits, shirts, trousers and jackets. Many of them are available in lots of sizes as well.

While this is obviously great for us as customers, it reflects the perilous situation that many Australian brands and retailers find themselves in. As a long-time customer of theirs, I hope they can drum up enough business to get through these uncertain times. And as a long-time lurker on this forum, I hope the sale provides some goodies for you!

Cheers, TT.

Maybe buy a couple of sizes extra if you plan on wearing it after the lock down

Out of luck if you buy something on sale and it doesn't fit

    • In this climate, I wouldn't buy anything that can't be returned.

    • Deal breaker. Not sure about their fit guide as Slim/Regular suits are show only chest size.
i.e. I choose 38".. but doesnts show the arm length / wasit size.

Any one know how these are cut?

I’ve got quite a few MJ Bale suits and jackets in a 38”. Generally speaking the Drop 8 is slimmer, but I’ve also found the Drop 7 has slightly longer arms. I’m slim (just over 6” and 72kg, vaguely “normal” arm length) and the Drop 8 fits me perfectly off the rack. The Drop 7 needs to be taken in a bit above the waist but is still wearable without any alterations.

I’m not sure if all their jackets are the same but I could try measuring arm lengths for reference.

        • Ah. Might be a bit off the 38 size then. I am 178cm / 5'8" 77kgs 34" waist.
Usually shirts are 33" center neck to cuff length.

Any chance you can get the measurement of the waist / arms? Much appeciated.

          • @pegasusx: Off to bed now but I’ll measure tomorrow morning.

@pegasusx: All measurements using a cloth measuring tape as per Proper Cloth guidelines (https://propercloth.com/reference/measure-tailored-suit-jack…). I can't vouch for my measuring abilities but it should give you some idea.

            36 Drop 7
            Shoulders: 16"
            Chest: 19.5"
            Midsection: 17.5"
            Hip width: 17.75"
            Sleeve length: 24.25"

            38 Drop 8
            Shoulders: 17"
            Chest: 19.5"
            Midsection: 17.5"
            Hip width: 18.75"
            Sleeve: 24.5"

            38 Drop 7
Shoulders: 17" (maybe a hair wider than the Drop 8, but could just be my poor measuring)
            Chest: 19.75
            Midsection: 18"
            Hip width: 18.75"
            Sleeves: 24.5"

So my general comment would be that the Drop 8 is more tapered in the body than the Drop 7. The big difference is around the midsection (which I guess is kinda the hips). This squares with my own feeling wearing the jackets. I can wear the 36 Drop 7, but it is a bit tight on the shoulders. The 38 Drop 7 fits comfortably but is possibly a little loose on the waist. The 38 Drop 8 is the best of both worlds for me.

            Hope that helps.

@tiedtyper: Thanks so much! Been measuring my suits and will probably have to give it a miss. Seems to be very well cut towards the thinner body shapes.

  • Shipping costs in the description. I tried to buy something that was $65 but no free shipping so can't be bothered.

Mj Bale shirts are really bad. Bought once and never again. Very hard to iron.

    • I don't like the cut of their formal shirts (I stick to CT). However, I am a fan of their casual shirts (especially the linen ones). Shirts aside, their trousers and especially jackets excellent value – especially when on deep sale like this.

    • Suit quality is also sub standard - I bought 6 suits and don't last more than 2-3 years. which is not so good when you pay $750 for a suit. I still like the cuts. I used to buy YSL which lasted at least 5-7 years. I need a new brand because custom made in indonesia is no longer an option

    • I've had the opposite with their shirts - I quite like them I just think they're overpriced.

They also need to educate their staff what customer service is about tbh. Rude and snobby. Just my own experience though but I won't shop from them ever again. Shirt quality isn't particularly better anyway.

I have had amazing customer service from them. Never anything bad, always helpful.

      • I second to that. I recently purchased a few items from them and their online sale support is exceptional.

        • Always awesome service!

          • @Maxdax: I agree, I've bought a few things from them and the service has been mostly good.
