Glenfiddich 21 Year Old Reserva Rum Cask Finish Scotch Whisky $199 (Save $66) at Jim's Cellars

90

It is a very good price for a 21 year old.
Jim's cellar rated it 96/100.

Glenfiddich resurrects the lost tradition of maturing whisky in rum casks with this Glenfiddich 21 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky. Rum distillers from Sancti Spiritus, near the Sierra del Escambray in the heart of Cuba, worked to develop this unique Cuban rum finish. Casks of Cuban rum are decanted at the distillery in Scotland and then filled with 21 Year Old Glenfiddich to absorb the unique character lingering in the wood. The result is the unmistakable Glenfiddich flavour revealed through a new and vibrant overtone.

Other reviews… Nose: Toasty. Biscuity. Petits fours. Palate: Vanilla flan. Sweet Cuban coffee.Finish: Juicy. A hint of dried tropical fruits. The less pronounced rum character of the two Caribbean accented whiskies in this tasting. When you cook, do you want the herbs and spices to announce themselves individually, or to be part of the blend of flavours? David Stewart seems usually to opt for the latter, and does so with great deftness and sophistication. 40% Alc./Vol. - Michael Jackson / www.whiskymag.com

Best scotch I have ever had.

This was the whisky that made me realise the diminishing returns of spending more money on whisky.

    • As in this wasn't worth the price, or that pricier whisky aren't worth the price?

IMO it wasn't worth the price. I find that you hit a wall, where the reward for spending more gets less and less, I find that $120 seems to be the sweet spot. I would have preferred to get two great whiskies instead of one great whisky.

Thanks! Any recommendations around the that price point? I picked up a Balvenie Doublewood 17 a while back that I really enjoyed, think it was about $150 or so when I got it.

@Sike O: It really depends on your taste preference. My taste has changed a lot since I was into Glenfiddich and sweeter whiskies. I bought a Auchentoshan three wood the other day for $75 and absolutely loved it given it's price point and profile. I'm into peated whisky these days.

            • @onlinepred: Thanks for the tip, will have to try it out, reviews look good and price looks better.
Generally not a fan of peat, but always willing to try something new, never know what might grab me.

  • Excellent drink and superb price point.

They still offer complimentary customisation of the labels https://gflabels.com.au/.

  • 1L of this vs 1L of sanitiser….which is dearer?
