  • This might be a stupid question for a lot of people,d oes all these router support NBN?

    • Yes

    • -1

Yes, as router not as modem. For FTTC you need a Modem. For everything else you can just use router, any router.

Quite happy with my RT-AX88U for $330 after cash back (received last Friday), which have much better firmware than Xiaomi and AU warranty, and is on a whole level higher.

      • Just curious where you got it from?

Bing Lee Black Friday sale at $370, cashback $40 received last week. Potentially another 3% cashback from Cashrewards but I forgot to use. One cracking AX router for the price, can do max 1.6Gbps on WiFi 6 but on multiple devices since it's still limited by 1Gbps Ethernet Port. It can also do 2Gbps Internet by using WAN + LAN 1 port for WAN Aggregation, Quad Core 1.8Ghz CPU and 1GB RAM, much better specs than Xiaomi and also Merlin if you don't like ASUS firmware (which is pretty decent already).

          • @Bigboomboom: sweet good to know. was looking at this but not at the price they are asking for it at full retail price. glad to hear there are deals about if i am patient.

@drinkin-beer: This Black Friday I bet price will be a lot lower as more and more AX routers becoming available. Or heck it could be EOFY sale.

      • nbn supply you with the FTTC modem.

        Nice ASUS router :)

      • What is the range on the RT-AX88U?
Wonder if it will reach my granny flat at the back?

        • +1

Depends on where you put it. I put it literally at the very end of my house and it reached my shed about 10m away, both 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz. But it's better to get another ASUS router in grannyflat and AIMesh it with the main router, or use other Mesh units.

I think you mean FTTN. FTTC, FTTP and HFC only need a router; FTTN requires a VDSL capable modem (but if you already have a good router, you can usually bridge most modems to it).

        • +2

          You're right, I meant FTTN.

  • Only 3 lan ports and 10/100…. did i read that right?

    • +1

Nah, they're gigabit i assume GearBest has they're website wrong. But yeah only 3, plus a WAN.

My last Xiaomi router didn't receive patches for any of the security exploits for it.

    • For that reason I prefer to buy only hardware that supports OpenWrt.

      • +4

Thats why asus is so popular. The ac86u is still to this day one of the higher sellers.

      Avoid Netgear then.

      • DumaOS is nothing to be sneezed at either though.

        • DumaOS is a horrible, slow, buggy pos.

          • @JAKEBAB: Interesting opinion; ive hit no issues installing routers for clients.

Do you have any bug tracker tickets lodged I could have a look at?

  • +11

    Needs more antennas.

  • +2

Can it be flushed with the third party firmware like Openwrt? Anyone knows?

  • +1

This is over 70% more than the adjusted Chinese sticker price, and it's worth noting that it's unclear if this supports Target Wake Time or not, which would be an important upgrade for battery life for wireless devices and overall network traffic and power usage over time as you migrate to WiFi 6 devices.

I can respect that there might be additional certification procedures, but if it's not got TWT, that's a very tough sell.

  • That's way too much for you to pay, you can buy from China and TNT ship to Australia within a week for 30% off this "discounted" price

    • link?

      • no link, i buy from their official website and ship it myeslf. the item is around $150 and shipping is around $20. I believe there is a tplink wifi 6 modrm coast around $80 and decent.

        • So AU$150 + shipping? That's a far better buy.

    • Help me plz

  • NO option to apply coupon at checkout

  • best to get it direct from taobao/t-mall.

Bought one today for around 187AUD. Just make sure to pay via alipay (via credit card) to get around the website automatically applying 10% GST.
