So this is $71 more expensive than your last deal near the end of January? How is this a bargain?

This is also the second most expensive posted on this site for this HU.

So again, how is this a bargain?

    • +4

      shots fired

      • +3

If you were able to go back in time and buy it for the price we offered in January, then it wouldn't be - but you can't, so it is.

Wow, what an attitude from a store rep.

And to think I actually bothered to buy a HU off you guys as a present a previous time you posted and ended up asking a question about postage and didnā€™t even get a reply from you till three weeks after it was posted. I really do hope it doesnā€™t develop any issues based on the very lacking customer service shown previously, as well as your attitude to being called out for trying to pass a $71 price increase as a ā€˜bargainā€™.

        • Wow, what an attitude from a store rep.

Sorry if that came across as attitude, it was meant to be tongue in cheek. Sorry about that.

We've looked at the current market and we've moved the price down to $519 with a free reverse camera. In the current market (you can't compare it to previous months as it's vastly different) that's the best price in town.

We've dropped it to $450 with a camera, instore only

Funny how you can so quickly drop the price by $31 when the poor pricing was pointed out to you (but you also then removed ā€˜free shippingā€™ from the offer to hide the price?)

And of course you can compare to previous months and deals posted, thatā€™s just ridiculous trying to say that you canā€™t. A few dollars here and there are understandable, but trying to pass off a $71 increase as a deal is just insulting.

We've dropped it to $450 with a camera, instore only

So now youā€™re basically showing the ā€˜freeā€™ postage that you offered was really $69 for postage (or even worse, $100 based on your original deal pricing)?

@Nousernamehere: Someone holding a gun over the head to buy this from them ? If the price is cheap at this moment in time when you need to purchase it .. it is a bargain..

              Just relax bro

Clearly completely missed the point of this site then havenā€™t you? If the price was so cheap to begin with (it wasnā€™t), then why did the rep manage to somehow find a way to drop the price by $100 within an hour? Thatā€™s some damn expensive postage they must have been using.

Iā€™ve deal with this company before just recently as I said, and you sure arenā€™t paying for the customer service.

Sorry, next time I wonā€™t bother pointing out a pricing issue and youā€™re welcome to pay $100 extra for this.

@Nousernamehere: Yes thatā€™s the attitude here mate - you get negged for pointing out a higher price and non existent CS. Anyway you have saved other prospective buyers at least $100 - good on you. Not all us comment but Iā€™m sure they appreciate when someone does what you did. Cheers!

No problems, happy to take one for the team.
Some people seem to be acting like I'm doing this against just some random Ozbargainer who posted a deal they found, not an actual store rep who tried to use this to just get free advertisement and then was caught out with a price jack over their own previous deal.

If store reps want to use the site, then they have to be prepared that Ozbargain gives us plenty of easy tools to see previous prices, and for them to then take that onboard and adjust accordingly. The way the rep has behaved, and the subsequent huge price drop to $450 for pickup only, yet still make it $519 + postage just shows utter contempt for anyone outside of Sydney, and further proves they're just trying to price gouge all other customers.

                • @Nousernamehere:

@porthos this is the last I'm going to comment on this with you, as I feel there's no winning this. However, for others reading, please let me explain a little bit.

A bargain is a price for an item that is lower than anywhere else - at the time. I.e. if you look for the XAV-AX5000 online right now (using Google) you find:
                  * Vendor 1 @ $553 with no free camera
                  * Vendor 2 @ $556 with no free camera
                  * Vendor 3 @ $629.10 with no free camera - so by definition, our original offer of $550 with a free camera and free shipping, was in fact, a bargain.

Our subsequent price drop (as you mentioned) was in response to, frankly, you. We thought you know what? Drop it a little more, we can… so we did. Our pricing is based on what the market is doing as is all retail.

Our price now of $519 with a camera (but yes, no free shipping) is in no way related to "how expensive our shipping is" or whatever. It's based now on, nowhere online is cheaper. Not even eBay.

You reference your recent dealings with us, which has spurred your clearly negative opinion of us, however, I control this side of the business and for 2020, there has been one complaint regarding our customer service/delivery and because I was on the phone to that Lady earlier this afternoon; I don't think it's you. If there was something wrong, or we handled something not as you expected, then please, contact us directly and we can solve the issue.

We are, have and always will put our customer service, advice and prices above all else.

It's all good, least I know when it's in a public forum you actually reply in a decent time frame, as opposed to other support times.

A bargain is a price for an item that is lower than anywhere else - at the time. I.e. if you look for the XAV-AX5000 online right now (using Google) you find:

I couldn't care less what others are offering it for on this particular day, this is called OzBARGAIN, not OzMightBeTheCheapestPriceRightNowSoLetsUseItAsFreeAdvertising.

Our subsequent price drop (as you mentioned) was in response to, frankly, you. We thought you know what? Drop it a little more, we canā€¦ so we did. Our pricing is based on what the market is doing as is all retail.

So all it took was for me to point out previous deals, and most importantly, your own deal a month and a half ago, and then suddenly you were able to drop the price just like that? So the original 'deal' was just a way to jack up the price of the previous deal by $71 and try and pass it off as a great bargain, to then undermine all that by being able to do it for $450 pickup only? Didn't even give the price as $450 + postage, you just left that at $519 + postage for everyone else. Way to win over customers there.

I never expected you to drop the price like that, more just as I asked "where's the bargain?" You could have simply gone 'yep, nah fair play we'll do it for the same price as before" or even $10-$20 more, costs do change I completely get that, but with the cut in price and just how quickly you did it there was obviously no increase in cost price to you that justified it being $71 more expensive than 1.5 months ago.

Our price now of $519 with a camera (but yes, no free shipping) is in no way related to "how expensive our shipping is" or whatever. It's based now on, nowhere online is cheaper. Not even eBay.

It was simply for me to show how ridiculous your 'deal' was when you could just drop the price like that, to which I'm 100% confident you're not losing money on it. A comparable camera can be purchased for under $10 from eBay, there's nothing special about it apart from the 'Pioneer' name on it.

You reference your recent dealings with us, which has spurred your clearly negative opinion of us,

No actually it didn't, your absolutely appalling and condescending reply when called out on the price jack compared to 1.5 months ago is what caused my 'negative opinion' of you. The lack of customer service previously just reminded me to not just let that reply slide and to call you out on it.

If there was something wrong, or we handled something not as you expected, then please, contact us directly and we can solve the issue.

The issue is solved, it was simply your own f***up with your original shipping update email listing my billing address as the postal address as well, which if you'd sent it to me would have meant I would have then had to post it to the actual person it was meant to go to over east. I emailed you within 10 minutes of getting that email, to then not get a reply till 3 weeks after that email.

@Nousernamehere: So a bargain of today must be cheaper than a pervious price offered? Which planet do you shop at… Relax mate.

So a bargain of today must be cheaper than a pervious price offered? Which planet do you shop atā€¦ Relax mate.

Where did I ever claim that?

Can you honestly say that putting up a price of something by $71 only 1.5 months after a previous deal is a bargain? Do you then also think that the business dropping the jacked up price by $100 for pickup orders, yet then having it as $69 (plus postage) higher for everyone else is a bargain?

What planet do you shop at?

If you're fine with being ripped off then you're clearly on the wrong site.

                        • @Nousernamehere: Lesson one: Google foreign exchange.

                          Lesson two: Google COVID-19 AUD.

                          Lesson three: get some manners.

Being a warrior without the context that only the business can know, is a sign of a fairly low level analysis.

                          Think.

                          • @pensionday: Oh the irony of accusing me of ā€˜low level analysisā€™ and then going for 2 of the most obvious cop outs that a business will use to increase prices (whether their impact is real or not, itā€™s a convenient ā€˜outā€™ for a price rise).

With your obviously vastly superior intellect than mine, please do explain how the currency rate over the last couple of months, along with the coronavirus, were the cause for the $71 price increase, then the $31 price decrease (but add on postage), then the further $69 decrease on top of that for pickup orders, all in the space of an hour.

Iā€™d be fascinated for you to show off your superior skills.

Iā€™m not on here to make friends, Iā€™m not on here for people to like me, Iā€™m on here to save money, and at times, help save others money if I can. If that means I have to call out bull****, then thatā€™s exactly what Iā€™ll do.

Hi Rep, is it possible to bring price to $450?

    • I am in :)

    • +8

      Done - instore only.

      • Thanks ,,, do you have any stores in Melb/VIC??.. I can see one only 20 Marion Street, Bankstown NSW, 2200 Australia?

        • +1

No mate, we're just in Bankstown, NSW

          • @BankstownSoundMarine: What is the total price posted to Melbourne CBD? Do not need camera.

            • -1

@adn: yes,, if you dont have store in Melb.. would like to know the shipping

            • @adn: The price of the unit is not affected by the presence of the camera - it is a free inclusion. The $450, instore only, offer is, instore only. Meaning that if you are to buy it and have it shipped, the regular $519 is the price, shipping would be an additional $9.

Happily match that should you want to.

Nice find. With the left over 10% eBay gift card / cashback it's effectively $470 for me. Seriously tempted.

    • +4

Probably better to reward the seller you quoted rather than buy from the price match. At least the Ebay seller was trying to have the best deal to start with.

  • None of these main-brand head-units connect to the canbus of modern cars to give on-screen feature control of car settings, do they?

    • For some cars, yes. I have a pioneer 9200DAB. According to the manual, it supports Renault and Skoda.

    • Yes, they do connect to CANBUS if the adaptor for your car is made. What make, model and year is your car?

  • Nice price OP trying to get the misses to pick one up for me after work , what's the length of the deal ?

    • It's standard double-DIN.

    • I believe yours has been picked up already?

      • Yes she picked it up going to install it tomorrow thank you guys

  • +3

How much to get it installed?

    • That depends on your vehicle, as there will need to be adaptors and or fascia kits. Please have a look on our website for your car to see if there's a pre-made installation kit for yours - https://www.bankstownsound.com.au/product-category/installatā€¦

      • 6.95 Touchscreen Display

Does this fit an FJ Cruiser without needing side plates? Not clear if need the Aerpro FP9016K or not.

  • Where the wireless android auto head units at?

    • Yeah waiting on the JVC V950BW, already have this Sony, it's time to upgrade to wireless.

    • I would say that you'll be waiting until mid-to-late 2020 for the wireless Apple CarPlay units to be on sale. We (and everyone else) are under a lot of pressure from suppliers to stabilise prices. Pioneer has a lot of new units this year that support the feature though, check them out (my favourite is the Pioneer DMH-ZF9350BT) - https://www.bankstownsound.com.au/product-tag/new-for-2020/

  • +1

Props for the price change (albeit after being called out, lol). This should make it now the cheapest this head unit has been listed for. Personally I missed out on the Valentines Day deal for the Kenwood DDX919WS. Hopefully something similar comes out!

It's been as low as $400 @Jbhifi in Dec-2018. But never seen that low again, i'm waiting and hoping though lol. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/427447

      • I'm assuming that's an earlier model given the different name?

        • +1

Nah, the title of his post is for the XAV-AX1000 but in his post he comments "There is also the 6.95" Sony XAVAX5000 model for $397.60".

      • Too bad @johnnyfc

If you were able to go back in time and buy it for the price JB-Hifi had in Dec 2018, then it would be - but you can't, so $450 it is.

      • Just letting you know, from Sony, it'll never be that low again (unless grey-imported etc.)

        • Will the Kenwood DDX919WS ever be that low again? ;)

          • @tsugnev: No mate, that's an outdated model that's not coming back into stock. It's been replaced with the DMX-820WXS - and let's just say, it's an awesome unit!

    • I've replied to that mini-thread above, it wasn't due to be called out, it was due to being able to do it. But thanks. What about the DDX was great for you? Do you have a Hilux?
