        • +2

People pass heaps of deals here and never comment. Why comment on this one.

          • -2

@Seaword: Who knows, who cares. Why you trying so hard looking for meanings to a simple no? What if they said 'yes'. Would that then be OK for you??

            • @Cusack: Does the fact he/she is from Perth add to your understanding?

    • Open your mind. It's not hard.

      • +4

Can't someone simply say 'no' to something they have no interest in these days without being accused of something? Projecting much?

        • +8

Are you really suggesting the GP just wanted to inform the whole Ozbargain that they are not interested in going?

          • -2

@bio: If it was a museum of knitting, I would probably answer with a simple no myself, then be told I'm 'close minded'. But now I'm also projecting by thinking that being called close minded is an attack on me, but all they really meant was simply open your mind to the world of KNITTING. :)

            • +6

@Cusack: Yeah. Don't pretend that the people saying no to this aren't all saying it because they're not interested. No islamaphobia here

              • -2

@WinstonWithAY: Yes! let's all pre-empt islamaphobia so that simple comments gets weird answers and accusations. Go heroes.

        • +2

Of course they can. Like a 60yo man can roll on the floor, throwing a tantrum.
But an effortless protest invites people to encourage discussion. Being triggered by the simplest first response to a hard no… Wow.

Oh gosh, I hope this doesn't turn into the same kind of thread as last year.

  • +102

Let's be honest, this thread will be populated by people criticising this faith (just like the Christian posts)

Give it a break friends, we live in the best bloody country in the world and should be accepting of all beliefs and backgrounds. Give the righteous soapbox comment a break this time and be respectful.

I hope someone finds use of this offer ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • -1

I won't be accepting of all beliefs and backgrounds.

With religion, it’s all about interpretation. The less you interpret, the better you’ll be. Just obey the tenant ‘do one to others’ and the rest is redundant tribalism that fuels division.

        • Seems like very anti-humanism

        • This is a nice summary of it.

        • +1

          *tenet

the rest is redundant tribalism that fuels division

I think every religion and atheism would encourage others to believe and think the way they do.

    • Good man.

    • +4

Love the multi culture diversity here . So great all races are welcome to the Mosque including Jews and Hindu’s ?

      • +2

        Why question mark?

      • -6

Jews aren't a race. I don't care what anyone says.

Hindu isn't a religion. It's what the Arabs use to call people who lived in India.

        • +4

If 100mtrs is a race, Jews are too!!

          • +11

@Ulysses31: I learned long ago that spaghetti isn't a race either. I was once eating it quickly and my father gestured to my plate and told me that it wasn't a race.

        • +1

If, to become Jewish, you must originate from the middle east or marry into a Jewish family, thereby sharing genes to produce children of the same genetic lineage, how are they not a race?

Then again, why are you so hung up on these labels regarding different social groups? We're all human and we're all going to die eventually. Devoting any of your living energy towards harbouring hatred is a waste.

          • @Faro:

If, to become Jewish, you must originate from the middle east or marry into a Jewish family, thereby sharing genes to produce children of the same genetic lineage, how are they not a race?

Jews are made up of a mishmash of people from all over the world, especially Europe.

Then again, why are you so hung up on these labels regarding different social groups?

Race is what divides us. It's something we can't change. It can tell us where we came from.

Devoting any of your living energy towards harbouring hatred

THere's no hatred coming from me. I'm just stating fact. Jews aren't a race and the word Hindu was coined by the Greeks and the Arabs used to call the country Al-Hind.

thereby sharing genes to produce children of the same genetic lineage

Two Jewish people from different backgrounds getting married doesn't make it a race.

            • +4

@Numlock: Just one thing on this:

Race is what divides us. It's something we can't change. It can tell us where we came from.

Race, like borders and economic systems are all man-made things to divide and protect a very small percentage of people with power and money who would rather keep that than live in an equal world.

We all come from Earth. A rock with water and oxygen that is hurtling through space at a speed we can't comprehend under very specific circumstances that provide the galactical fluke we know as life. We're all going to die. I don't care where we came from nearly as much as where we are headed. Hopefully at some point we realise this division and competition doesn't push human advancement as much as cooperation and compassion.

              • -2

                @Faro:

I don't care where we came from nearly as much as where we are headed. Hopefully at some point we realise this division and competition doesn't push human advancement as much as cooperation and compassion.

That's a nice ideal and I'm all for it. Unfortunately, we live in a wildly racist country. Anyone of colour who has worked in a predominantly white or even multicultural environment can tell you that.

              • @Faro: @Numlock I love the way you think. We should all be striving to think like this. Peaceful.

    • +2

yeah i have nothing to do with it but i went just out of curiosity. Its ok, i would have liked more about the early islamic architecture and history.

In the same tone, the shoah museum in elsternwick is worth a read, i was surprised to read such experiences of it in a country not directly exposed to the shoah. If you are of polish descent it might interest you a little more than others.

melbourne museum is my favourite but the recent themes have been uninspiring (lets not mention ngv…I'm all for modern art but sometimes its just jerk off)

    • +7

Let's be honest, this thread will be populated by people criticising this faith (just like the Christian posts)

Religion or not, it's ridiculous that Islam, Christianity, atheism, or basically anything else should be free from criticism. It can be done respectfully.

It's an Islamic museum. Presumably, you go there to learn about Islam. Asking questions should be encouraged.

      • +2

Same goes for the Climate Change religion?

      • +1

Think you missed the point there friend, the last time this was posted it was far from constructive criticism.

I agree, people should be able to discuss freely and respectfully as it's a free country. But there is a line…and it's often crossed which is disappointing! :)

    • +1

Free country, free to question and criticise. Unlike…

      • +4

Agreed, but there's a big difference between acceptable criticism and attack or trolling, which is sometimes seen even on OzBargain.

Maybe OzBargain criticism could be marked as a freebie, although it's always free so perhaps it would be relegated to the forums, or at least a long running deal… 🤣

    • +1

The Umayyad Caliphate stretched from Portugal to India in the 600s. They invented brewing coffee, discovered camera obscura and adopted and then modified the numbers we use today (0-9). Muslim Indonesians were in northern Australia trading with Aboriginal people hundreds of years before Captain Cook was blown out of his dad's bellend.

My guess is the place would be a fascinating few hours.

    • +2

But, but, Richie Dorkins said religious people cannot do maths.

      • +2

When he was sharing a beer with Sam Harris.

    • +1

yeah it is worth a stroll especially for free but the museum wasnt that good

  • +5

Easy with the hate friends. Who do you think makes you a beef kebab with the lot after a drunken night out? Be thankful for our Islamic brothers

    • +1

Where is this beef kebab you speak of, i only see lamb. Dont forget the copious amounts of garlic sauce.

      • +8

        Halal snack pack is better

        • +1

Dumb me always thought it was high school pack

      • Interestingly in Istanbul beef is the common low end vertically cooked meat. I guess here lamb has always been No. 1.

        • Mmmm .. yarim kebap.

      • +1

lamb is better than beef anyway, in other parts to cut the price its made with horrible turkey meat

    • +6

      Those poor animals.

      • +7

Lamb… the senseless murder of young sheep, not to mention halal practices where they are conscious and can feel all the agony of death). What the (profanity).

Think about that every time you walk past that section at Coles.

        • +5

If you're nitpicking on HOW the animals are killed rather than the fact our western ideologies of slaughtering animals by the thousands after they've "lived" their lives in vastly unnatural situations to benefit the corporations in charge of these capitalistic régimes, you would be far better off ditching meat altogether.

          • +1

@Faro: Not nitpicking, i completely agree with you and am almost fully vegan. I simply emphasised how halal practices inflict even more agony and suffering onto animals compared to the 'humane' Western methods. Looking back, my comment came off different to how I originally thought.

        • +13

As if animals not slaughtered for halal don't suffer. Don't kid yourself clownboy

        • -1

Are you one of those who eat bat cat rat dog and bring corona virus to humans

      • Poor?
        Tastes rich, to me.

      • +7

Keep pretending like you give a (profanity) about how an animal is killed. You should see the horrible conditions animals are kept in for our consumption regardless of whether they're halal or not. Stop concern trolling to hid your islamaphobia

    • -2

Why is it if you don't approve or disagree with something dumb people just assume that it's motivated by hatred? Just stupidity.

      • +1

I know that reading is hard and all but if you read the comments here a bunch of them have been unpublished due to "hate speech". So if you use your brain you'll realize that is what I'm referring to.

        • Hate speech is speech that lefties don't like to hear. Perhaps find where your brain is located and make some actual arguments.

          • +1

@OBEY YOUR MASTERS: Again it seems like you can't read, which is ok I'll just repeat myself. I'm talking about the comments on this thread that are hidden due to hate speech. I'm referring to the hypocrisy of how many people hate on islamic people but chose to get kebabs from them when they go out. I'm not talking about the left or racism. You clearly can't read or use your brain.

            • @protozeroxx: Wow some people made some derogatory statements on the interwebz. So what? They get deleted anyway.

I'm talking about the fact that criticisms get associated with hate. It's retarded. Your original post never specifically referred to "comments on this thread that are hidden due to hate speech."

Frankly the association that Muslims are there to serve you kebabs seems kinda derogatory anyway. Kinda like saying if we don't let Mexicans through the border who's gonna be our gardeners? Well that was from the US anyway but a beauty nonetheless :D

Let's all bound together and abolish capitalism 🤗

  • Charge for nonsense, then make it free, DEAL! Silliness.

  • -4

Wow a museum with an entry fee. Cool religion.

    • The religion of capitalism

    • +2

The entry fee has nothing to do with the religion. Perhaps they need funding for being an independent and private museum. ;S

      • -2

This and one other similar religion go all out convincing people to join their movement while condemning everything else. They are so hypocritic. I am surprised there is even a museum and thwy charge people to enter.
In other countries where Islam is prominent thwy have to put their prayers on loud speakers for every single person to hear. Glad this doesn't happen in Australia. So thwy have obviously gone to quieter means.

        • Everything aside, wtf is wrong with your'e' in 'they'?

        • +1

In other countries where Islam is prominent thwy have to put their prayers on loud speakers for every single person to hear.

The prayer is not on loud speaker. I think you're referring to the call of prayer. In places where the majority of people have to pray, why is that a bad thing?

Glad this doesn't happen in Australia.

Because muslims make up less than 3% of the population.

          • -3

@Numlock: How would you feel if someone came up to your face and smoked.

  • +24

Broadmeadows shopping centre is free entry all year round 😳

    FREE viruses to pass about

    • -2

Coronavirus came from China. Try again.

      • +6

A lot of people projecting here and assuming it's a dig at the religion. He simply meant any sort of gathering poses a higher risk to freely pass the virus. He didn't actually mean the virus came from that place or religion. Haha

  • -5

Do they have statues or paintings of the prophet Muhammad?

    • +8

Idol worship is totally prohibited in Islam so my guess is NO.

      • -5

        So much for tolerance…

        • +1

You're ethnic and we're tolerant of you.

          • -1

@Numlock: Do you think ethnicity is the same as religion? Which ethnicity prohibits the display of a historical figure?
