    6 core iMac is $2299…

edit: although once you upgrade to 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD, the iMac is $2779.
But it is brand new, with a much better GPU, and a nice 4K screen.

edit2: 6 core Mac mini 16/256 is $2019. No GPU obv.

Thought it was a huge coffee mug from the picture.

    • heck i thought it was a sharpener on steroids…

    • it's so obviously a trash can :)

    • I did too lol

"Very nice specs for this price."
With FirePro cards, really? This is a relic.
Even considering the Apple logo, can't see any reason to buy this unless you really like the trash can design.

Absolutely terrible deal. This machine is incredibly outdated and not particularly powerful. And it was never really a good product in the first place.

Even if you're an Apple fanboy, there are better options.

      • a genuine question. any other better option money/performance wise?
        Mac mini?

        • +1

Mac mini is faster CPU and cheaper, but has no GPU.
iMac is faster CPU and GPU and slightly more expensive than this, and comes with a screen.

        • Assuming you mean within the Apple ecosystem? An iMac with 16GB RAM and a 256GB SSD will have a similar level of performance. It costs a bit more but comes with an excellent screen. It's far more modern and is definitely better overall value.

Outside the Apple universe, you can pick up any number of pre-built workstations with substantially newer and more powerful hardware and better warranty for around $2500. If you don't specifically need the workstation features (ECC memory, workstation GPU etc) then a mid-range gaming desktop will out-perform the trashcan Mac Pro all day long.

Must be on some good crack to think this has legitimately good specs for the price

I quite like this design of the Mac Pro, but quickly ruined by the lack of 4K display that takes away from the minimalistic design.

    • +3

how does not having a screen 'ruin' the minimalist design?

      • After hooking up a 4K/5K display cables start to build up on the desk, and it makes the desk a bit messy. With an iMac, it is an all in one, so the only cable I need is the power cable.

        • +1

1 extra cable (the HDMI/thunderbolt cable) makes it messy?

          uh, sure. OK man.

          • @Laserface: It can quickly add up to two or more when you start connecting USB hubs, power cable to monitor, and audio cable.

            • @t25: USB hub and audio cable are both cables you would need to connect to an iMac too.

you are literally only adding the display cable to the equation.

additionally, if you arent doing cable management to keep things tidy, thats on you.

              blimey.

      yes. 4k screens scream minimalism

  • Not a bad price but..
I would prefer to get a i7 6 Core Mac Mini for $2339

    3.2GHz 6‑core eighth-generation Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 4.6GHz)
    16GB of 2666MHz DDR4 memory
    Intel UHD Graphics 630
    256GB of SSD storage
Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet using an RJ-45 connector)

This WAS a good "deal" when Qantas shop had it for 600 bucks (approx) with 2000 points… remember that?

    • +1

Yes, but I think only about 3 people had that deal/mistake honoured.

  • +7

This is a museum piece with its 3rd Gen Ivy Bridge CPU and ancient FirePro GPU. Just get a modern mac if you need it

    • +2

True! The CPU and GPU are on from 2013/2014. You would have rocks in your head to spend $2600 on that.

  • -4

Not a deal. I can't see how any computer with parts from 2014 is worth this much.

      • Fair enough. My bad. Revoked.

  • I think they put an extra 0 in price 6 year old technology at 2021 prices

Doubt they have more than 10 to make this deal valid in any case

    • But its Apple, you'll be seen as a cool guy.

    • I agree, the bottom line is you'd be buying outdated technology which will have a shorter hardware/software support life,is more power hungry, and isn't upgradeable to remedy any of this which was its original downfall.

  • Just bought a new Mac Mini last week for my office. Had a good look at these Mac Pro units but couldn't find any reason to choose it.

Ended up with a 6 core i7 3.2 (Intel 8700B), 1tb ram, and 1tb SSD for around the same price as this deal (had to upgrade the ram myself though).

    • 1tb ram

      Lies…

      • Haha my bad, 32gb ram!

  • I have to agree with a few of the above users, we had one of these at top spec as a workhorse for basic video content editing at work and it was useless. Incredibly slow and had to be fixed almost every 6 months for something new that would fail. Feels like it was a rush job by apple in pushing these out.

  • For those wondering from the about GPU's in this; The Firepro D500's performance is somewhere between a HD7850 and HD7870.
