If I bought a Ryzen 9 sometime down the line, would this slip right in without any other alterations to the PC? Or would I need to replace motherboard, or make any other alterations to the setup?

EDIT: And does anyone have an indication of how noisy this PC might get?

    • +2

Not sure why your being negged - these are both valid questions.

    • +1

No idea why you get negged asking a question….

I think the RAM is a bit of a weak point, it'll work, just won't get the most outta the system, especially a Ryzen 9.

A motherboard upgrade wouldn't hurt too.

As for noise, haven't used these. Aftermarket CPU coolers won't set you back much, pending what fits…

With a R9, 99% B450 Mobo VRM will throttle unless you have 1 or 2 fans blast on it.

Wait and see what B550 mobos bring to the table

Ryzen 9 will work in a B450 or X570 motherboard but like another user mentioned you might want a bit beefier board. All modern PCs will be pretty noisy under load unless you change the stock cooler that comes with them. I can recommend NH-D15 or Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 CPU coolers, both in terms of noise and temperature control. They're both over $100 and have case height and ram height requirements you need to check (the Dark Rock Pro 4 is a bit more forgiving).

GPU can get a bit loud as well, usually GPUs with one fan will be louder due to the higher RPM required to cool them - generally, but not always, do your research.

Case fans can be a bit noisy if they are set to run at 100% all the time. A modern BIOS will let you set a fan curve for the case fans based on various temperature sensors that will let you quiet them down a bit. The fan quality does have an impact on noise, you get what you pay for mostly. The stock case fans are usually not great for silent PCs unless you are buying a top end case.

All of these things are a lot of cost but if you're noise sensitive it's worth it, plus in terms of cooling you can get a bit more out of your CPU.

    • Dual fan so will be pretty quiet.

Not sure about the motherboard, should prob check the website.

    • For Ryzen 9, I'd get at least the Mortar Max upgrade or a X570 board just to be safe. Don't go with a basic B450.

    • Thank you for your feedback everyone! I really appreciate the insight.

Thinking it might make more sense to invest in an Ryzen 9 configuration with a weaker GPU, then upgrade the GPU at a later date.

Just pointing some thing crucial out here. It says by default it comes with no operating system activation. And then when you click the change button it says that Windows 10 Home will be preinstalled with the system but you need to pay an extra $169 for a license activation. They are just by default installing a trial version of Windows 10 on these PC's.

And that to upgrade to the full Windows 10 Home is an extra $169. Geez. Expect to pay extra if you want the full Windows 10. So unless you already have Windows 10 retail then you need a budget extra on top of this $1899 price.

So it's more like $1757 if you want the system with a licensed Windows 10 Home. Unless you want to use Linux on it but who uses Linux for gaming on a $1.9K system.

    • i'm 99%, that the hard disk that come with these have an OEM windows license on it, which can be activated, might be able to provide link to the activation script, if interested, or message me i'll send you the link.

      • Nope no OEM license on the hard drive or indeed any paid activation. 100% says it comes with a trial copy of Windows 10 Home preinstalled. That you need to cough up an extra $169 for an OEM license to upgrade the trial to fully license activated. I mean if it came with a paid Windows 10 license on the hard drive then why would there be a $169 license activation upgrade?. You see the first option which is selected by default is No Operating System Activation. Which means trial verison installation.

"Windows 10 Home will be pre-installed on the system. To unlock the full features of Windows 10 Home, select the Activation upgrade below. You will be able to enter your own genuine Windows 10 Home key when you receive the system.

        No Operating System Activation

Microsoft Windows 10 Home Edition Activation $169.00"

        • This has been the case since we first started. Windows 10 Home is preinstalled, but not activated. It's not a trial version of Windows, it is unactivated. You can purchase an activation key from us, or elsewhere. There are an multiple threads on OzB about Windows 10 Home purchase options. We are simply offering the choice of where to purchase the key from.

@luketechfast: I don't think you even understood. When you install Windows 10 without entering a product key it runs in trial mode as in unactivated (if there was no previous Windows 10 key activated for the PC). You can then image that trial mode installation and roll it out onto multiple new computers with the same hardware configuration. That's obviously what this store has done.

You can then use a paid Windows 10 product key to upgrade it to a fully functional activated state.

        • +4

You can download and install Windows 10 onto any device without paying for it. If you want to activate it on a fresh system then of course you need to pay and that's an option Techfast are providing.

  • Why is this deal so much more expensive to ship?

For me, this PC with the MSI case is $97 to ship.
This deal —> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/519487 with the same MSI case is only $68.54.

Edit: Even with the Lepper case options, this deal is $54.45 while the previous 2080 Super deal is $46

    • Can you check again? It may have been a weight setting. The Gold PSU is heavier so there is a weight increase between the two, but not that much.

      • It's now $71.36. A couple of dollars for the heavier PSU is probably fair enough. Thanks Luke.

        • Great, thanks for the heads up!

  • Thanks again BA!

Some deals from February have started to expire, so head over to our account page for all current deals.

  • Interestingly I can't purchase this on my iPhone 11 Pro Max using Safari on iOS 13.3.1. The ’add to cart’ button doesn't work (changes from red to white, but nothing gets added to my cart).
Hopefully I don't miss out by the time I get home.

    • Thanks for letting me know - did you add any upgrades so I can try to replicate? It can take a few seconds from Add to Cart click/tap to appear in the Cart, depending on Upgrades etc as well.

      • Hey Luke, I added the open air case and 3200mhz ram. The ’add to cart’ button’ goes white, waits a few seconds, then goes red again.

        • OK thanks. It does seem to be limited to the browser/platform you're using as I can't replicate it. Would you mind trying a different browser/platform and see how you go? I will have the developer look into it in the meantime.

  • When does this deal end?
Also, I notice the configuration has been upgraded to 3200mhz RAM and 1tb hard drive (mechanical).

  • Nevermind. Commenting on the new deal instead.

    Hi Luke,

Ordered a 1600F / RX 580 build from you guys back on 09/03/2020. Not really following up on the status of the order as the deal clearly stated 12-13 days to ship, which is fine.

I just wanted to check to see if the current virus outbreak is likely to affect your shipping times at all? Can we realistically expect existing orders to be delayed or is everything still currently running on time?

    Thanks in advance!
