  • I think if you ticked "associated" and tagged it with "long running" it might pass muster?

  • Really like this. +1 OP.

  • Good way to relocate interstate on the cheap. Get a campervan and load up with stuff and somewhere to sleep for free on the way.

Mostly deals come up closer to the time so can be hard to plan ahead too much.

This time of year likely to see most stuff moving north as companies get more rentals in QLD than VIC during the cooler months.

And get sorted with CDW cover beforehand or this may cost more than the rental.

      Note
      - Drivers are not allowed to use any of the camping equipment. We recommend that you bring your own equipment and linens.
If vehicle and equipment are returned dirty, a charge of $200 cleaning fee applies.

and then carry your gear home!

Yeah what? Sorry that is so beyond a trap in going from an upvote to a neg for dodgy business practices. "free" with a mandatory extra kms charge? Yeah no.

      Edit: oh I can't neg…well.

These, or similar from other providers, come up regularly on OzB.
As others have pointed out, make sure you are aware of the T&Cs before committing.
Others will relate stories of bookings being cancelled by the provider at the last minute, leaving the renter to find other options.

If you have the time and flexibility in your life, it sounds ok though.

  • We recently used their NZ counterparts (https://www.transfercar.co.nz/) and got free 3-day/2-night hire (including a full tank of petrol) to take a vehicle from Christchurch to Picton. So we had a couple of stops along the way to check things out.
We simply dropped the vehicle (which was a Hyundai Sonata thru Thrifty - though we only found out the model of car, when we picked the car up at Chch airport) at Picton ferry terminal and walked away. It was exactly as advertised - no hidden gotchas.
We then caught the train back from Picton to Christchurch. Turned it into a great 8-day getway for us.
Remember transfercar is a relocation broker - so at the end of the day it's going to get down to which car rental company you are doing the transfer for and what their T's & C's are.
Have looked at the Aus deals via the website and the 'benefits' vary - e.g. coming from Hobart or Launceston to Melbourne, but ferry charges not included is definitely not for me.
