  • How does this compare to Pixel 4 XL for $639?

  • This or Huawei P30 Pro? I know, they are two totally different phones, but price is also a consideration as well as features. I understand that P30 pro is waterproof, more powerful cpu (probably doesn't matter, I'm sure 9T can deal with android auto just as smoothly), better battery life. I'm not sure about P30pro's camera lag (for taking photos of toddlers running around), hence a cheaper 9T might do. Plus there are no active bargains for P30pro right now.

    • If you afford the P30 Pro, then go for it. Its a flagship and is a beast of a phone. I own one and I'm happy with it.

      • Is it that much better than Xiaomi 9T? It's more than double the price. I could buy 9T and just upgrade again in 2 years. Still uncertain.

      • +4

Decided to take the plunge and ordered the 9T

  • Anyone know how this camera compares to the iPhone 11 pro?

A Xiaomi fan so pleased to grab one.

    Thanks to OP

  • This or Oppo Reno Z at $360 from Optus?

    • +3

      This.

i search ozbargain and some user had some problem with the s/w. i rather not bother with this product and go with a better brand.

    • +5

Guess you haven't seen the recent bugs with Samsung s20s, no matter what brand there be bugs and problems

  • Keen on the phone but got accustomed to wireless charging over night. That screen tho…

    • +1

How difficult to plug in a cable.

      • Easier in the morning when the alarm goes off.

  • some on reddit (though probably just a vocal minority) are reporting touch issues such as non-responsiveness. can anyone with a 9t or k20 share if they've had any issues like this?

  • +3

Price matched $379.05 @ Officeworks Maribyrnong, Vic. Didn't even have to show any proof, the guy knew, probably cause others had been there. That's a lot of phone for the money. Loving it so far.

Android auto connected to a headunit is not working on this device, is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

    • Judging by this link you are not alone: https://support.google.com/androidauto/thread/25059868?hl=en
Reading through the above forum makes me really feel Xiaomi is treated as second (no, third) class citizen with regards to Android Auto - i.e. patchy at best, works with some updates, breaks with others.

That is really analogous of the overall decision to be made: Do I go for a tier-1 brand (Samsung) that provides flawless support/connectivity, or do I go for one that gives me a better bang-for-buck under the hood, but is more of a struggle on the outside.

    • Android auto for phone screen or Android auto?

    • Make sure you don't have any Dual Apps

  • How is this camera vs iPhone 7 Plus?

  • Price matched this at officeworks yesterday too. Thanks OP.
Seems good so far. The fingerprint scanner seriously sux though!

  • Recommended casing?

Is it also recommended to put a screen protector on this phone though it already has gorilla glass?

    • of course, many options, I recommend nilikin brand, but also alot of cheaper options as well.

    • Maybe not if you plan to use fingerprint scanner

      • Just config the fingerprint scanner after you put the glass protection

  • It seems to have gotten much better throughout the day somehow which is promising.

    • +2

register your finger 2-3 times and then itll be faster

any case recommendations? Can you get one for Mi 9T is it the same as RedMi K20?

    • +1

      I've ordered a ringke fusion x

    • +1

Comes with a thin and hard case which feels nice in the hand but won't protect your phone much if you drop it.

      Spigen Rugged Armor $20

      • I have one on my current phone, its a good case, not too bulky, not to pricey.

There are so many posts which are unanswered re the camera quality compared to various phones.
Some asked to compare camera with Iphone 7,8, 11, Samsung S10, Pixel 4 etc.
Can someone please comment detail on the camera quality?

  • Was looking at a oppo reno 2z earlier in the year for around the same price.
My last three phones were xiaomi. Needless to say I held off on the oopo and purchased this today. Cheers for the link.

  • Seems to be out of stock everywhere in Western Sydney :/

Anyone had any luck using Gcam? It kept crashing on version 7.3. I tried a few versions and found the most solid one to be Gcam 6.2.030 by urnyx05 and have had no issues since.

    • +1

7.2.010 v2.2 by Urnyx05 working great for me.

Is it straight installation of apk? Or do i need to install other apps and do something on the phonevbefore i can install the apk?

      • I asked this earlier and googled. Looks like its as simple as downloading and sideloading the apk. Correct me if im wrong.

  • damn, its out of stock now for delivery and no store in Sydney has it

  • Thanks, just pricematched at OW North Lakes QLD. Sales guy stalled a bit but eventually price matched.

    Great phone for $374

    • REE I paid $379.05 at OW pricematching JB.
      How'd you do it?

      • Sorry, thats what I paid too, my mistake

    • +1

Me too at North Lakes about 9:30 am. The sales chick explained that because JB had stock at Kawana about an hour away they'd price beat, but explained that if it was to much further away they wouldn't have.

      • Ha, I was there about 10.30am. I could tell someone had already pricematched and gone through the process because I didn't have to prove anything and they looked well versed in what to say. I got the same Kawana line - but I'd called Morayfield JB earlier, and they did have stock.

  • Grabbed one today after umming and ahhing last time this was posted. So far so good!

  • +1

I've just posted this on Whirlpool but for those whose phones do not automatically turn on VoLTE and VoWIFI after you put in a SIM, someone has posted this link on the Xiaomi subreddit [ https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/cjuax5/activate_vol… ] with the codes to enter in the phone dialler to disable the carrier check and in effect enable these two settings.

    • I tried that but with Boost I had to call them and they had to manually activate VoLTE at their end.

      • Yeah I think Telstra (and any MVNO who uses them) is a bit more 'painful' on this part, needing people to call them (like you did) while VF direct is more forgiving on letting people use any tech on their phone (well…except RCS and Android visual voicemail; both of which they refuse to enable or wont commit to while Telstra at least allows RCS on any mobile you use even if its not from them).

Anyone got a link for the best version of Gcam for this?

      • Which one on the list you is

Instruction says install apk but next instruction was follow comfig amd changelog (which makes it abot confusing)

        • I used the one on the top of the list - GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v1.2.apk

          • @RangaWal: Thanks for sharing.
            1) Do you see good difference in using GCAM over default cam of this phone?
            2) Can you please point out the step by step guide to install/apply this Gcam? Sorry, newbie with this stuff.

            • @anonymoususer: Haven;t used it enough yet to tell. Simply download the file, and click on it. It will prompt you to change a setting allowing install from other parties (or something similar), choose OK and you should be good to go

  • Which phone case and screen protector you guys are getting?

    • +1

Got myself a Spigen Rugged Pro case and this one from eBay [ https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GLASS-PRO-Xiaomi-Mi-9T-Anti-Scra… ]. With the protector, that will arrive hopefully tomorrow so ill go to one of those mobile phone repair places and get them to put it on the phone as I am pretty crap at putting screen protectors on.

      • Is this too thick for the finger print sensor to be detect?

        • Remains to be seen! What ill do anyway as people suggested is that I remove my fingerprints once the protector is in and then re-enroll them again.

    • I ordered Ringke Fusion X =)

      • Ok, order rinke from korea. Closest i can find on ebay. Need to take awhile to arrive. Up to april from estimate.

  • I dropped mine a week ago from 1m height. Amoled screen uncracked but unusable due all of these bright vertical lines running the length of the screen.
A new Amoled screen from Aliexpress is $175. If you are getting this phone, invest in a good protective case that fits tight and has all round cushioning.
After this experience I have less confidence in the build quality of xiaomi phones.

It can happen to any phone just depend on the landing angle.

You can search in YT about a drop test on Redmi K20 Pro (Mi 9T Pro).

He even test putting a 20kgs weight on the pop up camera and didnt break.

It is a bit painful to watch the testing he was trying but a bit funny at the same time as he drops it then the phone died then he drops it again and it was able to boot again and the guy mention that if the phone is broken, keep dropping it til it work lols…

  • How much should we say yes to with Xiaomi apps and functions Vs using Google apps?

  • Strange that JB HiFi don't stock this anymore.
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/collections/mobile-phones/all-mobi…

    • They were obviously just trying to clear out remaining stock with this discounted price. No stock available at officeworks now either.
Also the chinese version of the successor is already out too (K30 or the eventual global version 10T?)

    • they found some stock and put them back on the web, however a price tag 699 makes non sense

      • I'm hoping they'd put this on sale again.

  • -1

It's on sale again. I'm waiting for my pay to come in to buy it
