Yep, they're pretty decent - I bought some about 5 years ago and the cable is just starting to give way now, but otherwise they've been great.

They were a bargain at $40, absolutely are at $26.

Yeah I have a pair of these, pretty reasonable audio. Not a lot of bass if you drive them with a "flat" eq, BUT they will reproduce some decent bass if you push the eq up on the bottom end.

I wouldn't call them amazing, but nor would I call them poor. Alright for the price.

  • I've had my pair for years now (HD 201 - same brand) and they're still serving me well. Had to tape up the cable to stop it splitting, but whatever. I paid $50 I think.

they were 17 pounds when a reviewer tested them in 2005

      How vague.

      • not really, pocket-lint is pretty good website for reviews,

        http://www.pocket-lint.com/review/1380/Sennheiser-HD-201-hea…

        2006 my bad.

          .. and according to http://www.xe.com/
the exchange rate on the date review was posted was 1 GBP = 2.3647747644 AUD
So 17 pounds would have been equivalent to AUD 40.20 and that's before P&H :)

Really need to get back to my assignment now…its was due on friday :(

I got a pair during the last deal. They're good for the price, but don't sound as "amazing" as they might've when they first came out years ago (cheap closed headphones all sounded awful so the HD201 was a pleasant surprise at the time).

The pics of these headphones tend to give the impression they're full size circumaural, but this isn't the case - the earcups are smaller than on more expensive ones. Being used to the comfort of full size $100-200+ headphones with velour padding, I found it hard to tolerate these.

  • "Hmm… 1st post.. so pls be nice guys."

    Why?…

    • well …Thought someone might have pointed out , rightly, that these cost $1 more than the previous deal :)

It's just the difference in the AUD/GBP rates. Matter of fact, these are 0.20GBP cheaper than the original deal.

        Haters gonna hate.

  • They're okay, fairly transparent and not much distortion (for the price…)
BUT I found the shape of the cups rather uncomfortable. I now have a cheapish pair of Sony cans (only about the same price) that I find much more comfortable. Forget the model no. though.

i surf the OP website and found another Koss PortaPro Headphones for about $30 delivered(use code: VC911):

    http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Overhead-Headphones/Koss/Koss-Port…

    Review:
    1) http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones/koss-portapro-headphones/…
    2) http://www.productreview.com.au/p/koss-portapro.html
    etc

    Any thought for the headphone?

    • +2

I will go with this Koss any day over this cheap sennheiser.
Got the Koss for myself, thanks.

      • why? give some reasons

    • +1

The PortaPros are great headphones. I've been using them for two months now, no problems. They sound much "warmer" then the sennheisers, and have more bass.

      http://www.head-fi.org/t/433318/shootout-91-portable-headpho…

but it gives the sound a warm fullness that none of the other sub-$50 headphones I’ve tried here can match. The mids are very similar to those of the KSC75s – fun, forward, and aggressive. The bass occasionally creeps up on the lower midrange a bit. The highs are slightly rolled off, which makes the PortaPros less tiring than the KSC75s for prolonged exposure. They are also very forgiving of mediocre sources and recordings.

    • Real deal right here. Better than the HD201 in every way other than noise isolation. Much cheaper than at any other store as well.

  • Officeworks Lowest Price Guarantee- http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/content/Lowest-price-gu…

    What about online stores?
Identical products are price matched against online stores but as with any other kind of store, the item must be currently in stock. When price matching online stores we also take into account the added cost of delivery. If the identical product can be purchased and delivered via an online store for a total price lower than the one we are offering, we will beat that total price by 5%.

They should price match. I'm going to go in store and ask tomorrow if possible.

    • They will price match it. I price matched 2 pairs of Sennheisers when 1-day were selling them a few months ago.

      • So you get it at $24.70 and you don't have to wait for the 3-4 days its going to take get here ….how come i never think of price matching :(

  • I own and regularly use a pair. They're comfortable and sound okay. No bass at all but they're fine for everyday use like browsing Youtube or listening to music. The cord is way too long (must be around 2-3M) and there's no volume slider.

The HD205 for 22GBP ($33AU) seem like an even better deal. Over 50% off comared to 30% off. The HD205 have a greater frequency response range and look like they'd be way more comfortable. Couple that with double warranty and for me it's a no brainer.

    • +1

Great find on the 205. I'd definitely pay the extra for it over the 201. The 201's lack the fullness and the soundstage for my liking. I'll gladly swap my 201's (used once, purchased from the 1 day sale deal) +$15 to anyone who wants to get the 205's and swap with me in Sydney.

Or I'll just stick with my IE 8's!

    • How do the HD205s compare to the Koss UR40T? (same price)

    • +2

Only just checked these as I'm keen at that price. But has it all of a sudden gone up in price? Total for me after applying the discount code is 30.44GBP? At 22GBp I'm sold but more than that and I'm not sure their worth it?

      • you are correct, the price title hasnt changed in google yet :P

        http://i55.tinypic.com/jr3frd.jpg

        google cache price shows 33.99GBP

        website price shows 29.99GBP

so in between both these prices they had the price at 21.99GBP, rep must have seen this thread and changed it…unless OP is secretly a rep…

        at 21.99GBP it's 33.58AUD
        and
        at 29.99GDP it's 45.80AUD

        difference of 12.22AUD

        *converted at XE.com

  • how this phone compare with Px-100??

    • +1

Px-100 is equivalent to Koss Portapro and lighter, more portable, and better sound than HD201.
