  • Where can I find solar bollard lights that actually have IP65 (or higher) protection?

    • +1

I'm pretty sure all "serious" outdoor lighting requires wire connection, and an external power source.

If you want unconnected solar-powered lights with IP65 protection, I don't think those exist.

You could cut-down the ones in this deal, and put them inside glass jam jars (or other glass jars from the grocery store). Don't use the lid from the jar, it's steel and will rust away. Instead, put two jars together, with the openings of both jars facing downwards, and use silicone to join them together.

  • How much (or rather little) light do these give out?

    • I wouldn't expect much considering it was only $6.90 originally.

3x where x is variable and depends on person to person.

    • …1x candle

I've had 6 of these before, they actually suck. The plastic exterior has cracked probably due to weather wear and tear

    • +2

The $1 ones or the $3 ones?

      • +1

$3 one is mostly glass and metal so I assume he is talking about the $1 option, but not sure.

These are utter trash and are a symbol of thoughtless consumerism. I think I'll get 10 at this price.

    • For 95c more you can get a 10 pack

      • Must be a better deal 🤔 they are out of stock.

    Landfill!

  • These things never last long.

  • Well I got some of these (metal ones) and I intend to run a bead of silicone between the top (holding the electronics) and the glass lens. Hopefully I can get a little extra life from them.

  • +2

I've had both of these before at some point.

They all die quickly. They are not waterproof.

    Don't waste your money.

  • These are not worth the money. The batteries give out and plastic cracks. If you want value outdoor lights look at this model and avoid solar like the plague.

Something like above will last you a few years. Mine have been in the garden for 4 years now with 40+ degree summers/hail etc.

    • Yeah, but the batteries give out and plastic cracks because they're poor quality. It should be possible to make a solar garden light that lasts much longer.

      • It is possible but the batteries do wear out due to daily usage/ hot and cold. Some areas of Australia have winters with -5 overnight and summers with 40+. Batts will take a beating let alone the enclosure.

      • Beacon has some but I remain pessimistic about battery life. Build quality looks good in some of these.

        • I'm fine with replacing the batteries every year or so if necessary.
But even those $50 lights at Beacon are still only IP44, which I don't think will handle the hose when I water the garden.
