That's cheap. Bought it just few months ago for $559.

cheaper than an iPhone 7… nuts

      • +39

Yes, and it's that iPhones are overpriced.

Urge to replace my phone that doesn't really need replacing…. rising….

Is that a phone in your pocket…

If I recall correctly, the Mi Mix 3 doesn't have the certification to play HD content in Netflix if that matters to prospective buyers.

    • Can it be fixed with custom ROMs?

      • Probably? I was watching Netflix on my mi mix 2 which is running lineage 15.1

        • You're just watching it in SD

          • @spiev: Ahh ok thanks for the clarification I didn't realise the HD part was the important part in that sentence

      • No, if it's missing Widevine L1 certification, you can't watch Netflix in HD. You can't get Widevine L1 from custom ROMs (unless something has changed in the past year, I know OnePlus was looking at adding L1 support after launch for one of their devices).

It will have Widevine L3 certification, so you can watch Netflix at SD resolution.

Was $1,399 lmao… thats some bullshit advert even for someone associated.

    • +5

It was when JB sold it originally.

        • Yes that's right. Xiaomi sold it on JB before Amazon and it was that high… at release.

  • How is Xiaomi when it comes to updates? Been using the Mate 10 Pro and guess there will be no further updates so not sure if i still want to keep it. The Android Security patch is from Sep 2019 so really cannot trust this device anymore.

    • +2

Most recent Xiaomis including the Mix 3 are on Miui 11 / Android 10.

    • Worth noting that Mate 10 Pro is getting Android 10 soon, the supposed grand finale for the phone

      • Another article said it was dropped. So not really sure if it will get any further updates.

        • Apparently China has the update

But yeah, this will be the last update it receives anyway.

My Pixel is on the October security patch so in a similar boat to you.

Could be worth either going down the custom rom route, or just buying a new phone for the added security/major android updates.

          • @mangobango: Which Pixel? I thought pixels got a longer support period.

            • @Dealayed: OG Pixel, it wasn't supposed to get Android 10 but got that surprisingly, but yeah ever since then there's no more updates planned, security updates were only up until October 2019 according to Google's support plan

              • @mangobango: That's still really good fl rit to get support still. That's the reason it makes me want to go back to pixels.

                • @Dealayed: Oh yeah for sure, pretty insane support for the phone, but now that it's ended just gotta be more careful about security.

If you want to get a pixel then might be good to wait until the 4a is announced.

I know the 4 is kinda cheap at the moment, but heard nothing but bad stuff about the phone.

    • My Redmi Note 7 is Jan 2020, received that update a couple weeks ago.

    • I am using the Global Rom on the Mi Mix 3 5G and i am still on android 9 with MIUI 10. Most of the other Xiaomi phones have already been updated except this phone. Its probably got some thing to do with the 5G bands.
The original Mi Mix 3 with the SD845 has been updated.

  • Hasn't the 5G version been cheaper than this?

    • It still is. Heck you could've had it for less than $400.

      • +1

Yep, I got one and love it :D. It was a grey import though, fwiw

  • I have this phone as a backup (5G version). Nice and fast, and the Android skin functions a lot like iOS. Be aware that it does not do full 5G (i.e. no mm wave). Speedtest on Telstra 5G in Melbourne CBD and home is slower than Optus 4G on my iPhone XS. Not sure if this is the phone or the networks. I must swap SIMs one day… Looks like the 5G has a new chipset, so I'd pay the extra $50 and go for 5G.

    • +1

No one has built out any mmwave networks in Australia - the spectrum will be auctioned off early next year.

Likely saturation within the CBD is still a problem. It's still the same backbone and frequency as 4G at the moment, so it's not surprising it's not much faster in a densely populated area.

  • Mix 3 4G use SD 845
    MIX 3 5G USE SD 855

BUT UNTIL NOW MY 5G IS STILL WAITING FOR Android 10 update (pocophone f1 just got Android 10 update a week ago)

5g version is hard to get case too

    • Ah I didn't realise the case is meant to be different. I bought a tpu case intended for the 4g version and it fits ok

      • +1

The 5G one is more thick.

    • Hey mate i am in the same boat as you with my Mi Mix 3 5G. Are you using the global rom? I have heard the Chinese rom is updated to android 10.

      • I'm global rom and just bought from jbhifi 128g with single sim. I think there are no much about mix 3 5g Chinese rom information or videos, and I would like to wait instead of taking risk for that, at least now.
Hope can get android 10 soon!

  • Differences with the Mix 3 5G:
Mix 3 4G model has wireless charging, overseas model has dual sim (but not this one), on the downside has smaller battery (3300mAh) and slower processor (SD845)

  • -1

You can get the 5g for this price!

  • When can we buy Mi 10 pro?

  • When will the 5g version be on special?
