[Unobtainable Deal] Holden Final Run Out Sale: Trax ~$13,000, Equinox ~$20,000 + More

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Important stuff from the link

The Holden Trax city SUV is almost half price, with discounts ranging from $10,000 to $11,000, bringing this $23,990 model to the bargain price of about $13,000

The mid-size Holden Equinox is also a flat rate $10,750 off, or about a third off the price of the base model, bringing it from a bit over $30,000 drive-away to close to $20,000 drive-away.

The Holden Acadia seven-seat family SUV is between $11,500 and $17,000 off, between a quarter and one-third off the price of the car.

The cheapest discount is on the Holden Commodore – $7500 off – while the Astra hatch and sedan that were also discontinued last year have a flat rate of $8500 off to about $12,000 drive-away for the base models.

Additional Info (Thanks Techie4066):

Discounts on driveaway costs. All stock in remaining dealerships is expected to be depleted well before the end of 2020, with some dealers expecting to close by the end of financial year (June 30). Expected discounts from the start of March according to dealer bulletin (subject to change):

Holden Colorado (ute) - $13,000 to $17,500 off
Holden Trax (small SUV) - $10,000 to $11,000 off (down to ~$13,000 driveaway)
Holden Acadia (large seven seat SUV) - $11,500 to $17,00 off
Holden Commodore (liftback/tourer/sportwagon) - $7,500 off
Holden Astra (hatch/sedan) - $8,500 off (down to ~$12,000 base model driveaway)
Holden Equinox (medium SUV) - $10,750 off (down to ~$20,000 base model driveaway)

Opinions vary on these vehicles, but do jump on them if you have been in the market and are happy with what's available. Holden will provide servicing and spare parts for the next ten years (through a national aftersales network), ongoing call centre support, will issue recalls where necessary, and will honour existing warranties, guarantees and free scheduled servicing offers.

Mod: Article/bulletin lists the prices as drive away, but the pricing is not final and may be subject to change. As always, the deal may be removed (unobtainable) in the future, if it does not go ahead as (or close to) advertised/listed. Minor changes will be updated.

Mod: The deal become largely unobtainable. See comments. Moved to forums.

An article from a few hours ago

Tldr: customers wont be getting the full discount

    • +1

A few quotes posted in this thread seem to be getting about the full discount or close to, mentioned in the article.
The difference is that the discount applies to the full price, not the previously advertised prices by Holden which were already discounted.

      • ok, so how do i find out the full price of astra in Vic

I have a feeling its about $21990, minus $8000=$14000, which still is not a bad deal

        • Already explained to you in previous comments. Just have to look it up for VIC
2019 Astra R in auto is $22490. This is the MSRP from Holden, not the drive away price. The 2020 model is 23740
          PLUS following
stamp duty $8.40 per $200 (or 4.2%). More than NSW at 3%
rego & ctp - It seems to be about $834
dealer delivery (about $2500. Some charge more, some less)

          So discounted price would be
Base Car price = 22490-8500(discount from holden based on the article) = 13990
          +stamp duty 13990 x 1.042 = 14558
          +834(Rego)
          +2500(dealer delivery)
Total discounted price approx = $17,912

          • @8azinga: That seems way too high,
Dealers were selling new ones before the announcement for $20k drive away

            • @Samsungnote10: Because dealers were already getting big discounts from holden before the article was published. Its just a slightly bigger discount now.

          • @8azinga: Na 2.5k dealer delivery is all free $$ for them. Prices will drop significantly, just need to be patient. It’s too early yet.

            • @Lichen6420: I know it's a BS charge but they will still factor that in for early buyers to get as much as they can. If they don't sell, then they will drop it more. But i doubt they will have stock given I saw someone sign a contract yesterday. There is always someone who is happy to pay a little more.

    • it would have to be close to those full discounts for me to buy a Holden..

Might look at the Subaru and/or Kia :p~

  • +1

if people just refrain from buying it and only fork out at the advertised 12k or 13k for the suv, than they will be forced to reduce

    • It wasnt advertised as 12K. It was an error from the author of the article

      • well that 7 seater suv which was said to be 20k some other comment said he got offered that price today

        • Call the Cairns dealership and ask them for the price to confirm if it was true or not. It was the Equinox LT (Base model) which they have on their website as $35,540 Drive away. That would mean they are giving bigger discounts than the what the article says which i don't believe.

  • HSV????

    • +1

This is what I'm hoping for.
Sportscat V around 50k? Already seeing that kind of discount on the Acadia in some cases.
In the long term a HSV might have a chance of decent resale too.

      • was actually trying to research on what I can get thats an upgrade from my GTI haha

        • The Sportscat would be the only thing with a chance of being discounted heavily. Everything else like the Camaro is converted from LHD so isn't affected by this.

Clubsport/GTS etc all ended when Commodore production stopped years ago.

    • I think it's extremely unlikely that there will be discounts on any HSV models except MAYBE the Sportscat (and even then, it'd be in high demand so I'd expect a lower discount), as they're basically being rebranded as GMSV with no changes to the HSV lineup.

I daresay that they may even continue imports of the Acadia under the GMSV lineup, as the Milwaukee factory makes them as RHD straight out of the factory.

Perfect example of why anonymous downvoting sux. No comments. just 1 upvote and 2 people trying to bury the comment.

      • Yep, totally annoying. I put in useful factual comments, people down voted either for kick or differing of opinion but did not give a valid reason or supporting argument/fact…

      • +2

Its probably because it has been posted a few times already

        • -5

Yeah? Show me where. The comment below was posted after mine.

          • @syousef: Also here, so twice before your comment.

@whitelie: Totally my fault guys. Clearly I should spend all day every day tracking every part of every conversation before dropping a comment that could help others. Every time I bother to share anything other than a joke I get down voted and abused. Wonderful little community. The irony of sponsoring RU Ok day is priceless.

              • @syousef: do you want or need a hug?

                • -3

@Samsungnote10: Yep, just not from anyone here. Utterly vile. If anyone wants to see why anonymous voting on a message board is a terrible idea, look no further than this little freak show.

                  • @syousef: Hardly anonymous when you're complaing about 2 down votes and 2 people replied with their justification.

If I was posting a link to something with a heap of comments, I'd at least skim thru the last page or two to see if there's anything recent on it.

                    • -1

@whitelie: How many comments are there on this post mate? You're honestly telling me you skim so damn well you would have picked up any post mentioning Cadogan. Give me a break. Just utter BS. This place is full of entitled people who will bury any comment they don't like without giving a second thought to how useful it might be to others.

And worse you're defending sarcastic schoolyard bullying BS like "you want a hug"? This place is barely one step above monkeys flinging poop at each other at the zoo.

                      • @syousef: If you're skimming for any mention of a YouTube link or Cadogan to double check it hasn't already been posted then it wouldn't take 2 minutes to scroll back a page or two. You don't need to read every comment but both previous comments gave a decent description of the video.

I never mentioned anything about the hug comment nor upvoted it, so assuming I am defending it is rather presumptive.

                        • @whitelie: In all seriousness, there are now 9 pages of comments and the chances of missing 2 comments on a quick skim are high. Besides that, I simply don't believe that every time you post a comment here you skim pages of comments first.

You may not have mentioned the hug comment but it's always a pile on.

ALL of the Cadogan comments are being down voted, not just the repetition. It isn't about repetition. It's about people shooting the messenger and suppressing the message.

That's is a stupid theory, so we should all buy Toyota's ?

Not everyone buying a car to sell within four years.

  • Ooooh, that fire sale is tempting…

I rang 3 Holden dealers today, looking for the trax, no one is willing to go below $24,000 and that is with the discount included, has anyone actually gotton one of these deals, or is it all a load of bull!

    • Hasn't started, read above.1st March.

      • Yes, hasnt started, but dealers are already doing deals. Read the comments

    • +1

I went in to Holden City North (Osborne Park, WA) today after phoning about the Trax, and was told the following:

Base model 'sold out'/unavailable in Western Australia
"a handful" of cars are held by dealers in the Eastern States, however they are clinging on to them
there has been "misinformation" about the pricing discounts in the media
the best price we can do is $18,670 (~25% discount off RRP)
So I walked, saying we will see how desperate you are for sales in 1-3 months time. And said will follow them up, which I will.

They of course countered with "this is a massive saving, we will sell out, you are missing out and there will be nothing left -in my opinion- come one month let alone three"

I let them know Im happy to sit on my cash until then.

Epic discounts are promised, but depreciation levels on those vehicles will be stratospheric. How do you weigh discount versus depreciation and get the value proposition straight? This report is an attempt to work that out.

The real question should be how does he have so many viewers with how much he waffles on spewing his b.s..

        • He does waffle on, but he's usually on the money when it comes to cars. If you keep in mind that he's trying to steer the average person (i.e. someone who knows absolutely nothing about cars or the industry) towards the 'sensible' purchase decision, what he's talking about makes sense, even if he's directly attacking a car model or brand you enjoy. Like the Mustang. Or VW Group cars.

For example, I've noticed that he's made pretty much zero comment on the Suzuki Jimny because of this. I suspect he secretly respects that Jimny for what it is as a niche offroader, but it is so compromised in terms of safety and road performance that he'd have to basically excoriate the car in one of his videos if he touches on it.

The purchase of such a car would be OK if you know what you're getting into, but for the average car buyer who wants it because it looks cool…and then regretting it three months into the lease because the damn thing is a buzzbox at 110km/h, is slow, waddles around and has very little interior space…

And I say that as a Jimny lover who only sold the car because I headed overseas.

      Thanks for the useful comment.

Can everyone stop posting about John bloody Cadogan now. Its been posted like 10 times already

  • just got a call from another vic dealer, said the rumours were false in pricing, but they brought the sale date fwd, got a sale on the basic astra for $21,000

    • +2

lol, he's dreaming, probably thinks he'll snag a woodduck

      • yeah not sure what the deal with that is , whether theyre trying to condition people into buying and then reducing it later

funny how carsales shows heaps for $19,XXX drive away

even told him id be looking at buying two ;)

  • Thanks for the heads up OP.
Was a little interested in a Colorado and did some numbers and thinking forward. I think that the discount at this end probably barely covers the increased depreciation after 5 years or so. So, if cash constrained it is possibly worth looking at, particularly if you had your eye on one. After say 10 years with parts drying up an owner will need to actively source stuff and an average bingle will write it off.
So not interested here, but if I was looking for a trade Ute for 5 years or so and didn’t much care about colour or options I would be interested in the less wanted Colorado’s in the yards come March….

    • +1

On that note insurance costs on these cars will likely skyrocket if the insurers have to keep writing them off in minor incidents due to lack of parts availability.

  • +5

Here's my experience after talking to my local Dealer in Northern Tas.

    Astra R: $19,490 Drive Away (5 Available)
Astra RS Black Edition: $25,130 Drive Away (1 Available)
Astra RSV: $29,090 Drive Away. (2 Available)

Pretty much only saving 3-4k on RRP. Those prices aren't attractive at all, and there's no way I'd consider an Astra for anywhere near that price.

He tells me these prices were set, non-negotiable pricing as communicated by "Head Office" and that I wont find a cheaper deal anywhere, and if i do, he wants to know about it.

Now i take everything he said with a grain of salt, but id be very interested in some specific prices that others have been able to source!

    Edit: I got a Colorado Price aswell - Z71 $50,850 Drive Away (RRP $57,000)

    • assuming ORC etc are similar to vic,

thats pretty much last months prices of every dealer

and I know this isnt quote comparing apples with apples,

but id rather get a honzda jazz for $17k vs a astra hatch for same pricing,

given the badge disappearing, $14k is the most id pay

    • How did you come up with only a 3-4K saving? It is more than that.

  • +1

    Offered 18k for R+ or MY20 R

  • There is a Channel 9 ACA "special" report on the holden sale coming up at 6pm,

lets hope they check their facts before reporting what prices are going to be on offer

    • ACCC probably going to fine them for dumping

    • You watch it? What did they say?

      • yeah watched it
despite making it sound like its a groundbreaking investiationg, it was like 3-5 mins

basically, had some guy (could have been the guy from the youtube videos that everyone is quoting) yapping on

and one they gave the colorado example of dropping down from $52k to $42k (if i recall correctly)

and the astra is down from $29k down to $21k at some dealers

        • Was it this?
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSbbSE1cwbg

This video has the Colorado price drop you said, $52K down to $42K but they said the Astra priced from $27K before down to $22K now. $22K Astra must be an RS which there is extremely low stock.

Not the same guy from the other youtube videos posted here though. No idea who it was.

          • @8azinga: Yep thats it!!!

I'm glad my memory is ok and I'm not so old!

            • @Samsungnote10: From the dealers mouth in the video "anything up to 10, 12, 13 thousand dollars off" but basically useless info since it is 'up to' and isnt talking about a specific model.

  • If we all hold hands around Australia and promise to only buy Holden's maybe they will have a change of heart and stay. Who's in? (No sweaty palms please)

    • there are no holden buyers!

isnt that why they are going bust? :)

  • +2

So in summary, is anyone getting offered prices anywhere near the headline prices in this deal?

Maybe it won't happen until later?

  • +1

patterson cheney called up and said they can do $19K for a base model astra.

thanks but no thanks. negging this deal because it's not a deal.

    no hard feelings OP

    • We won't know if the information is legit until 1 March. Until then it's all speculation and rumours.

      • +1

dealer did say that those were the prices from 1 mar. they have brought forward the 'sale'

        • +1

And how trustworthy are sales professionals of any field?

        • dunno who would neg you for stating what the salesman said to you,

          have a Positive from me

    • +1

ha, I got $18k for patterson cheney, got the same sales speil as well

better than the $21k offer I got from another dealer

      • Hey mate, can I ask if $18k quoted is for Astra R 19? Does the price include any extras? Thanks

        • base model, nothing extra included,

you might get half a tank of fuel if you ask nicely :)

          • @Samsungnote10: Thanks mate! Also went a dealer today but quoted $20k, seems not much room to negotiate at this point..

            • @xixia: another dealer offered me $21k the other day….. I didnt know what to say

              • @Samsungnote10: lol also prices on Carsales seem to have all been increased…

  • -1

Maybe with so many sales, Holden will change their minds and stay in Australia. And we can go back to family priced V8 Holden Commodore burnout machines again.

    • +8

      User name checks out ;-)

    • dont think there are enough cashed up centrelink bogans in the country to change the fortunes of an entire company

      • +1

You can find plenty of cashed up bogans in airports with their dusty fluoro vests. But they all drive Hi Luxes or Rangers ;-)

  • +1

Called local dealer. They had a demo Trax, quoted 21k.

  • Spoken to a local Perth dealer and after mentioning the article (he didn't know about it), he quoted me $17800 for an Astra R 2019 with free tint and free carpet with 5-year free servicing (not 7).

When I said prices are too high he said do you trust your dealer or an online article?! Its never going to go below the price I quoted you.

So I left at that and will be interested to see what he says in March

    • +1

"he said do you trust your dealer or an online article?!"

      was that a rhetorical question?

      • Wow, would have loved to answer that question directly to their face

      • lol…. why wouldn’t you trust your dealer ??

    • +2

LOL Was he able to keep a straight face as he said that? Did you burst out laughing?

      • Dead serious

        • +1

Wow he must be their top salesman ;-)

          • @Buy2Much: I dont know about that, he does sound serious about the pricing he has given to me though. Maybe he knows something we dont know, or the article is indeed wrong about the discounts? Who knows, looking forward to see the real discount when it comes March the 1st. One thing is for sure, I will not be paying anything more than $14k for an Astra R 2019

            • +7

@Aerith-Waifu: have you heard the joke?

Q: when can you tell when a car salesman is lying?"
A: when their lips are moving

              • -1

@Samsungnote10: No I have not! Thanks for the laugh though

              • @Samsungnote10: I feel sorry about Holden's collapse for most of the Holden employees (admin staff, service staff etc).. but I feel nothing for the swarmy salespeople…

            • @Aerith-Waifu: They are working hard on the FOMO angle right now. The reals deals are not going to be made in the next couple of weeks.

              • +1

@Lichen6420: Just had a call back regarding the car I asked last week, they are now saying they can give me $500 accessories on top of the offer they made me. I said thank you and I will check with you in March.

I honestly think they are testing the market on what buyers are willing to pay rather than offering the best prices.

    • +4

I'd trust a Nigerian prince more than a car salesman.
