[Unobtainable Deal] Holden Final Run Out Sale: Trax ~$13,000, Equinox ~$20,000 + More

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Important stuff from the link

The Holden Trax city SUV is almost half price, with discounts ranging from $10,000 to $11,000, bringing this $23,990 model to the bargain price of about $13,000

The mid-size Holden Equinox is also a flat rate $10,750 off, or about a third off the price of the base model, bringing it from a bit over $30,000 drive-away to close to $20,000 drive-away.

The Holden Acadia seven-seat family SUV is between $11,500 and $17,000 off, between a quarter and one-third off the price of the car.

The cheapest discount is on the Holden Commodore – $7500 off – while the Astra hatch and sedan that were also discontinued last year have a flat rate of $8500 off to about $12,000 drive-away for the base models.

Additional Info (Thanks Techie4066):

Discounts on driveaway costs. All stock in remaining dealerships is expected to be depleted well before the end of 2020, with some dealers expecting to close by the end of financial year (June 30). Expected discounts from the start of March according to dealer bulletin (subject to change):

Holden Colorado (ute) - $13,000 to $17,500 off
Holden Trax (small SUV) - $10,000 to $11,000 off (down to ~$13,000 driveaway)
Holden Acadia (large seven seat SUV) - $11,500 to $17,00 off
Holden Commodore (liftback/tourer/sportwagon) - $7,500 off
Holden Astra (hatch/sedan) - $8,500 off (down to ~$12,000 base model driveaway)
Holden Equinox (medium SUV) - $10,750 off (down to ~$20,000 base model driveaway)

Opinions vary on these vehicles, but do jump on them if you have been in the market and are happy with what's available. Holden will provide servicing and spare parts for the next ten years (through a national aftersales network), ongoing call centre support, will issue recalls where necessary, and will honour existing warranties, guarantees and free scheduled servicing offers.

Mod: Article/bulletin lists the prices as drive away, but the pricing is not final and may be subject to change. As always, the deal may be removed (unobtainable) in the future, if it does not go ahead as (or close to) advertised/listed. Minor changes will be updated.

Mod: The deal become largely unobtainable. See comments. Moved to forums.

        • Bit more than that. Its $42,490 plus drive away costs for a full price.

The current price on Holden website of $43,990 already includes a smaller discount.

  • -4

Something to think about with these vehicles: sure they may be cheap but a few years after the brand has closed the 'loser' vibe will be strong with these last cars models.
I remember when I was a kid and Chrysler Australia closed up. They were once huge. The big three were not Holden, Ford and Toyota, but Holden Ford and Chrysler. Anyway when I as a kid, exactly the same thing happened, there were all kinds of crazy run out deals on Chrysler cars I also remember the just how dumb and outdated those once-proud cars started to look a few years later. The cars quickly looked like they were for poor people from a bygone era and the last thing any kid wanted was to be seen in one. They became the butt of jokes and comedy routines for years. The dads driving around those dead-brand Chryslers just looked like cheapskates as Eighties rolled through.
The 'dead-brand' status is a factor worth considering because after a few years you may want to get rid of it earlier than you otherwise would.

    • AKA infinity

      • +1

Yes and the Aussie built Mitsubishi Magna, although not a direct comparison as the brand still exists here and is well regarded.

        • +1

The Magnas / 380s were pretty good cars and sold super cheap as Mitsubishi got desperate

          • @Merlict: Yes true and so was the Valiant.
Many of them were still running untouched original engines and transmissions 20 years after production. It was however, undoubtedly the 'most embarrassing' car you could own in 80's and early 90's (5-10 years after production ended)
Valiant jokes were a common meme and you would duck your head down if you were in one going past your mates.

          • @Merlict: Yeah the 380s end of line stock were sold at 23,990 once the closure was announced and the brand wasn’t even leaving. This was a 10k discount. We bought a 2year old one with 30k kms for $11k and it was great.

Holden will have to get serious soon. The discount needs to be 10k plus for medium sized cars or larger.

    • +3

i doubt anyone really cares, let alone kids, what their parents drive, if theyre driving a standard family car even if its a holden, let alone 10 years down the track

      • -4

Well in the example above, about 5 years after Chrysler production ended, say by 1986, everyone knew that only FOBs and povvo people drove a Valiant. It was a standing joke and they were once a great brand.
I think kids are pretty sensitive to keeping up appearances. Didn't the other kids at your at school ask "what car does your dad drive? Certainly did at mine.

        • +1

not really, i went to a private school with many BMWs and mercs, but my family only had entry level japanese cars, eg corolla, civic, mazda, we couldnt afford BMW/mercs anyway

me/freinds were more concerned about the brand of shoes we wore

          • -1

@Samsungnote10: I was more thinking about primary school, that's when the kids were asking "what does your dad drive". My old man being the stubborn prick that he is, had an Italian Lancia which people either misheard as Lancer (Mitsubishi) or just stared blankly. The entire rest of the class was pretty much Ford, Holden, Ford Ford Holden in those days

            • +2

@King Tightarse: haha, I reckon I was more interested in Power Ranger toys!

              • +1

@Samsungnote10: Well my actual main interest in life in those day was finding the Alex Jesaulenko (Carlton), Peter Hudson (Hawthorn) Footy cards.
                Nothing else came close

        • +1

Back then "kids" don't have access to internet so all could do was laughing at parent's cars (?)
Kids nowadays couldn't care less about what you're driving. They're too busy with social media and online contents. Just stick a Fortnite sticker on your old wheel and it will be hot again.

I bought a second hand colorado about a month ago and rang up a holden dealer on friday to find out if it has any outstanding recalls or service campaigns.

She said that system is currently down and to email her and she will get back to me when its working.

Well it's been about 3 days and no email reply yet.

I have a feeling this is a bit of a sneak peek into the general vibe of how service and support will be when holden shut its doors.

    • did you ring service or sales? those 2 departments really work like they belong to a different companies so try calling service if you haven't.

      • it was service dept

  • Today I went in & had a test drive on an Equinox, they said the new discounted prices are available now, eg for an Equinox Black ed now nearly $27k from previously $37k. Should I ask for further discount (as much as possible) or that's basically it, as they seem pretty firm & careless when I ask for further bargain.

    • That's BS mate, i have been eyeing on them since the release of this thread and that has been the price ever since. Try haggling more close to below $25k

      • I've been calling a number of QLD dealers and nowhere is likely to give me a further bargain, $27k is the best of the best everywhere they said. Where did you get your price of $25k may I ask please?

        • They just pulled it out of thin air…

    • I just went into Holden in Hobart and was told the same thing - that Holden has allowed them to sell at the reduced prices since last week, but they cant deliver until 1 March. And they sold like 90 cars the first day or two, and just sold the last demo model 2 hrs ago. I went in looking for the $13,000 Astra, or $13,000 Trax, or perhaps the Equinox. But their prices were actually $19990 for the Trax, no Astras in stock, Equinox around $39K. He expects a lot of people will come in on the 1st March still. I'll be checking again on the 1st, just in case this is all BS. He mentioned at the reduced prices it still includes 5 year warranty and fixed price services, but not free servicing.

      • -1

90 cars in a day they said?

        Let's see:

        5 Sales
        10 am - 6 pm working time
1 customer every 30 mins are 16 customers each day (this is working none stop, no lunch, no toilet break), then times 5 sales = 80 cars

        Yes I believe it totally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • -3

          5 sales I mean 5 sales person

  • There has just been a segment on 7 news about the sale. Talking the clearance, saying Trax would be 17,000.. didnt mention Astra

    • Dealers are actually making more money on each new car sold due to this discount.

Say this sale wasnt on and holden were offering any discounts, say when they were still selling a decent amount of car. Majority of people get at least 5% off which comes out of their profit on the car.

Now with the discount given by Holden, they are selling at full price minus the discount provided by Holden but not the extra 5% discount and buyers are taking them up without thinking.
In terms of profit, it is like dealers are selling at full price.

I suspect the article is also trying to help Holden since Holden will be giving them grief for writing the original article.

      From the article:
[It seems the majority of Holden showrooms are passing on most of the savings because the bonus money is in addition to the dealer’s profit margin.

“It’s a win-win, to be honest,” said the Melbourne Holden dealer. “The customer is getting a great deal and we are able to keep our (profit) margin in the car. At this rate I reckon most (Holden showrooms) will be sold out within weeks, not months.”]

  • Anyone got any good price for Acadia and Trax?

    • most dealers are trying to flog off R (not R+) for $18K DA.

Dreaming, needs to be min $16K DA for R+

      • Whats the price difference for r vs r+

Google says the diff is leather steering wheel

        • +1

r doesn't have leather steering wheel + non of the safety tech like AEB, lane departure

      • Hey mate, are you referring to the MY19 R model?

      • Are you referring to Astra? He's asking about Acadia and trax.

    • Just checked price at dealer in SA for Acadia . He also showed me price on their official system. Without any negotiation, Acadia LTZ $50K and LTZ V $57K driveaway both white colour, any other colour is $550 extra.

  • What's the best price on the Equinox black edition please? I got one for $27k…

    • +3

Bargain! Get it now and regret later in true OZB spirit!

    • -1

      Found the wood duck.

You would be better off cancelling off within cooling off period, paying the $540 cooling off penalty and rebuying on Sunday for $25,000. See ZackyD's post below.

      • +1

All dealers in QLD are bombarded with these news so some have already cut their prices off. If you're truly doing your homework you would know there are very very limited stock, let alone colour & variant, so you may wait until Sunday but no guarantee you'll get what you want. If I own a Holden dealership I'd rather cutting my prices now to get rid of stocks rather than waiting until 1st March and being pricing-played around by buyers.

      • +1

That is likely the LT base model price. He got the black edition which has some extras on there and they will likely charge more for that

  • How would GOI's platinum insurance, Lifetime new car replacement offer work?

    • check their T&C's. It will usually state that if an equivalent model is not available then you will be paid out the market value of the car. Lifetime new for old is just a money making gimmick…

    • Are you trying to break the record of the most number of comments with negative downvotes??

      • +2

It could be a 5 year old car with horrible paint, he didn’t say it was new

  • Hi all,

Anyone came across a good deal for the Acadia LT/LTZ in NSW?

    • damn, no mention of astra

    • Article is not accurate
It says "The Acadia is set to lose $11,000 from its recommended retail price and will be on offer for $42,900 drive away" This is already proven to be incorrect from quotes people have posted

Trax from $17K drive away - If this is a base model LS in manual, this is the $10K discount mentioned in the original leaked article.

Equinox from $25K Drive away - Could be about right given MiaSanMia paid $27K for a black edition which is 1 above the base model.

  • Fake news. Just went to Patterson Cheney Holden, Vermont VIC and a salesperson named John said this journalist has caused so much frustration for them this week.

    • +4

well its times like this, when the majority of car sales men who lie every second, can only blame themselves, if they are not believed

      • Can't really blame them trying to make hay while the sun still shines…they have nothing to lose because they may be out of work this time next month…

        • Don't worry, we will soon seem them trying to sell real-estate. Used car sales people unfortunately don't die, they just turn into real estate agents :(

  • Just went to another Holden Dealer and was told from now till it's sold out the price of Astra R is going to be at $17000 with no further discount offered by holden, totally blasted the online article too when I mentioned it.

These dealers are really trying to playing the discount doesn't exist game at the moment……..

    • -3

$17K is the full $8500 discount from the article.

Why do you think they arent giving a discount?

Why sell it for less when they can sell it to someone else for this price?
Not everybody checks forums for best prices or they think $17k is a good deal, which i think isn't bad.
Full price is $22490 + ORC so about $25980 drive away.
At 17K, it's abput a 35% discount which is enough to cover poor resale.

      • -2

Not when you see the price at $13000 it’s not…….

        • -1

It was never going to be $13K though. The journalist got it wrong.

Ypu're expectimg dealers to change their forces because a journalist wrote a BS story?

          • -2

@8azinga: Well they have not yet retracted the article, so who knows.

            • @Aerith-Waifu: They did edit the article saying it was off full price and used the Trax as an example. said it would be around $16-17K instead of the $13K originally mentioned

It's common sense that this would apply to the other cars.

The most recent article mentioned the trax being $17k but I suspect that is a base model in manual.

  • +1

Rang around and had multiple dealership SOR in Perth say they're actually selling the Trax for 19,990 and that that is with the discount. Sounded rather rehearsed but whether thats because they're sick of hearing it or are trying to flog for a higher price I don't know.

  • Has anyone bought a Holden in past week? Keep getting quoted $36k for the Acadia LT 2WD and $40k for the Acadia LT 4WD and just curious of any has managed to get them down from these set prices?

  • Hey looking at a used Commodore Wagon ZB base model LT 2017 MY18. Driven by dealer 11000km on clock. Advertised at 22990. Would offering 20k be a good 1st offer? Thanks.

    • In think so. Kms are high

      • Yeah if I got it for 20k I think I'd be happy. Any other thoughts?

        • They say can maybe do $21k. Is this a good deal?

  • Interesting to see on Carsales that all the Holden dealers jacking up the prices on the cars as stocks are running lower…in particular the Astras….

Rs-v gone up from 25990 to 27990 at Col Crawford

I think some good deals are on the Calais and Commodores…

Saw some ex-holden Calais V demo for early 30s and still have room to haggle.

I hadn't been into a Holden dealer for a while before this runout and I realised why they don't sell many…its the most unprofessional set up I've seen….went to a few in Metro Sydney

    • What deals you seen on Commodore?

  • +2

Where is this 27k for equinox black edition.
The best price i can get is 30k
    Im located in vic

    • +1

      QLD, Zupps Mt Gravatt

  • Just got quoted $48k for a Trailblazer Z71.

  • Who's gonna go tommorrow?

    • +1

i think it's established this deal is not going to be honoured

    • +1

I doubt any different to today

  • +1

I went today put a deposit on a equinox LTZ-v for 31750$, i am going to try to get them to get me a more desired colour as metallic white is all they had coming in. Im happy with my effort for the day.

    • +2

I thought the full price is around $50k. If your negotiated price is $31750, then your discount is $18,250. That is much more than the advistised flat rate discount $10,750
      Did you have trade in?
Was 31750$ a change over price?
      Which is the dealer?

      • It's great price for the top range version! I scored a summit white black edition (I know, white black ed!!) for $26,990, it could be even cheaper if I agree to take a demo red colour in one of the showroom. Prices were all over the places here in QLD, some dealers wouldn't even bother to let you bargain since they have no stock and no idea of the incoming stocks. By the sound of it, each will have very limited stock coming in each month until June & that's it. So some will be clearing as many as they can now (like the one I got my car from) or accumulate more stocks to release them in one big go.

        • What dealer did you go too? Personally I wanted the 2.0 L engine and the AWD version so I had to go for top of the range.

          • @Kiato: I went everywhere & ended up in Zupps Mt Gravatt

        • Maybe QLD has different pricing structure? Cheapes i get quoted is 30k in VIC for black edition.
          Will wait on Monday.

      • Drive away price. It’s in just a common colour so most dealerships have one. And the original price is closer to 45k. I got a good deal but not as good as your quoting. Barton’s Brisbane. I’m not trading in.

        • $45k was the discounted price before the fire sale as posted by the OP. $45k is not the full price. The $10,750 comes off the full price before any discount. Even deducting this deal discount $10,750 from $45k, you should have got $34k. Are you sure you got the LTZ-V and not a cheaper variant?

          • @BuyNow Think Later: Check back around march 30th its when the next shipment is coming in. But yes im positive on the model, its the only one that is AWD and has a sun roof. Im not saying that just offered it to me it defiantly took a effort to get that price but just have the cash available to go and tell them thats what you want. they didn't give me any of the mats or extended warranty i wanted but price is good so i can get the rest of the mats etc later.

Actually going back again to try to get my sister a LT or a black edition.

            • @Kiato: Thanks, Kiato. Would you mind sharing the name of the sales rep of Barton’s Brisbane?

              • +1

@BuyNow Think Later: Renee but all sales go through their sales manager so its their sign off.

    • That is pretty good! I tried going in last weekend (22 Feb) for the Equinox to North City Holden in Perth, and the best drive away prices I could get on Equinox was $35.5k for the LTZ and $41.1k for the LTZ-V.

I was thinking I would go for the Equinox LTZ if I could get it low 30s (like $30-32k) but getting the LTZ-v at that price is a ripper.

Might have another go at them this week. Suspect the best prices might come up at the end of March though.

  • A couple of years ago I was given a Holden Trax as a hire car in NZ. I drove it all around the North Island, and it was easily the worst modern car I have ever driven. It was incredibly underpowered, to the point where overtaking was dangerous, it handled like a pig, it's interior was like a 1990s Hyundai, the infotainment straight up didn't work properly, it wasn't very practical, it was just a terrible terrible car, and I'd advise anyone to steer well clear on junk like that.

  • It's now march 1st, and the website doesn't say anything, nor do their social media accounts. It is a Sunday though, and all Holden dealers I could find are shut on a Sunday, so maybe we'll see something tomorrow?
If anyone has any updates that would be great!

    • +2

Just went to SuttonsCity in Sydney, they said that all their Trax and Astra’s sold out last week

      • Maybe they'll be getting more in, the dealer I was at on Saturday said that they had 2 more Astras arriving sometime this week.

        • They told me to go online and try and find something there and put a deposit down ASAP. They didn’t even ask for my details and the shop was pretty much empty.

        • If they have some order that is yet to arrive, it will show up on their website as in transit. If they dont have any showing, they wont be getting anymore

    • +11

Dealerships begged Holden not to run the official sale on their website so they can screw costumers one last time.

It is a really sad story and the last act is extremely coward.

Stay away from Holden. There are many alternatives in the market for similar prices to what they are asking right now.

      • How did you come to that conclusion?

    • +1

Website says to contact local dealer for pricing so I don't think we will see official pricing/discounts on the website.
