Thecus N2200+ / N2200PLUS 2-Bay NAS. $169 + $12 Delivery ($0 Pickup SYD)

Terrific price for a dual bay NAS. Dual gigabit ethernet is a win too.
Cheapest/Standard "street price" I could find is ~$220, so a $50 saving.

  • 2 bay is quite limiting for a NAS, but small footprint… maybe good for a media player or something?

    • How is a dual bay limiting anything? It has 2 bays… you can fit one OR two hard drives inside. That is double what MOST people need in a NAS. I have a dual bay D-Link with 2 x 1GB's in it. It's not full yet. With a dual bay you can fit 2 x 3GB drives for 6GB in total… I hardly would call that "limiting" ROFL.

You saying this is "limiting" is a bit like saying that a Falcon station wagon is "limiting". Yeah, I suppose so if you compare it with a truck - but who needs to drive around in a truck all day if they don't have to? :-)

        I completely disagree.

A 2 bay NAS is next to useless for today's HD media storage requirements. 6 TERRA BYTES (I'm assuming you meant this and not GB) wont get you very far if you want to store even a small BluRay collection without compression. Then you have DVD's, Music, Home Pictures and Home Videos. Also, if you had more bays you could get a collection of 2TB drives at much cheaper prices than the equivilent storage in 3TB drives.

So no… it's not what most people need in a NAS. The fact that you havent filled what I'm assuming is 2TB's of storage means you arent using the NAS for what "most" home users would use it for to be honest.

To use your car analogy, you have your scales wrong. You are driving a Toyota Echo (not a Falcon Wagon), and accordingly most people would prefer the Wagon. A truck in this scenario would be a full blown server with multiple bays and 100's of TB's of data…. which would be overkill for most users I agree.

        Good day :).

  • It's harder to see the value of this since the cut price of the hp proliant microserver.

  • Still hard to get a HP proliant at under 230 to 250 though. That 199 deal as expired and I probably need to buy another one.

    • If you can still get the HP at $250, it remains an amazing bargain.
This NAS price just reinforces that.

  • silly question, what is the use of dual lan on a nas?

    • Not a lot, maybe if you have a private and public network ant you want different levels of access/security. Load balancing and throughput wouldn't really be required for this model.

$175 here… Personally, i'd rather pay $6 more and NOT buy from mwave…

    • Really.. they're not good?

      • well if you consider sending you faulty items and then asking you to pay return postage to replace them, and then 'threatening' to charge you $50 if they do not find a fault, as good, then, yeah, they are good…

    • why? I even managed to get half price(50%) of their already heavily discounted Lian-Li case few years ago due to their mistake! they have been handling my problem professionally! :)

i don't regard intimidating emails threatening to charge you $50 if they do not find a fault as professional…

Found guilty of breaching Trade Practices Act for the way they handle returns…

        http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/918525?pag…

The ACCC was concerned about statements to the effect that:

        Mwave does not provide any warranty and consumers must deal directly with the manufacturer;
warranties arising from statute do not apply; and
the consumer is required to pay any shipping costs incurred in returning the faulty good to Mwave.

        • Grey import??

        • interesting….

Mwave (if an Australian retailer), cant just T&C away their obligations under the Trade Practices Act (well, now the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 actually). Grey import or not, if the retailer you buy from is based in Australia then they are obligated to either refund, repair or replace the item if its not fit for purpose…. not just refer it to the manufacturer.
