  • Anyone got a recommendation on just a plain old good Philip's head screwdriver? Whatever the standard size is for PC screws.

    • +2

The cheap Stanley set is adequate, honestly. Been using them at work for months now without issue.

If you want good good, get some Wera ones.

        Links?

        • +2

search Stanley on the bunnings website and youll find plenty

Wera "Lasertip" Phillips heads are the best I have ever used. They are not super cheap (but not crazy expensive either) but VERY worth it. They are just better made than most other brands, they are so close to spec, that when you use good screws, you can put a screw on the end of the screwdriver and wave it about in the air and the screw won't fall off. They are awesome.

The tip of that wera screw driver is crazy.
Lol I can’t believe they wrote a “why would I need a screwdriver faq”

      • thanks!

I also grabbed the Bosch SDS-Plus Hammer Drill Bits for $15.50 (reg $29.95)

Thanks OP. Now I can throw out all those loose bits rolling around in the bottom of my tool box.

lol, this is listed in the power tools

    Bosch Percussion Drill

I wonder if many have purchased without reading/looking closely.

    • Why do people give toy drills/screwdrivers? A small electric screwdriver is $15.85 and is more useful and is more fun for kids to play with.

Um, so that's a small toy screwdriver, in case you didn't realise?

        • The real thing is not much more expensive either(30-50 when on sale I think) I have one and my daughter loved it before she is old enough to use the 12V drill driver.

        • I see now that I did the exact same thing. The toy screwdriver looks just like the real one, down to the model number. Bosch Ixolino is a toy, Bosch Ixo is a real one.

$9 for this non-powered set would be useful for a kid (>3 because small items are not to be eaten)

    hey all,

can anyone suggest a power-drill to go with this?

dont do any heavy DIY work, just odd jobs around the house and mainly to make putting ikea furniture and the like a little easier.

If these weren't made in China, I'd be all over it as it's a great price

  • These will hold me over until i get some new ones

Current set is absolutely mangled and all over the place.

    Some reviews https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/440235

I guess you get what you pay for. I'll stick to Sutton bits.

  • I had a ryobi drill bit set and a few of them snapped when I drilled into some hardwood

  • These look better than the Dewalt set I purchased for similar price

  • Has anyone used the masonry drill bits from this kit on bricks?

I bought some sub-$20 kit from Bunnings (can't remember the brand) and they keep on going blunt after the first hole.

Is it me or the bits? lol

    • How aged are your bricks? My 1920's house bricks have turned into unobtainium! But hammer drilling concrete is fine.

      • About 3 years old lol

HmMm gonna try some mean drill bits and see how I go

        • Try ones with 4 cutting edges over the common 2.

          • @2024: Sweet! Will do, didn't know they existed hahaha

  • +1

Got this from a previous deal. Not impressed with the quality of the drill bits.

They are ok for occasional use and this cheap set will make sure you have most common sizes at home, saving you some trips to Bunnings if you need just a few holes. But if you want long lasting and high performance, look elsewhere.

  • Why does the 91 piece not come with a H4? The other kits do …

  • Cheers OP. Arrived today, qld. Only home diy use so should meet my needs. Handy to have all together in a case.
