  • I think the JB deal a while back was LED and also Soniq sources panels from Samsung I think.

Still good to see this deal and a good price for a bedroom

  • Their own brand was $250 for this price last week.

"$250 for this price" doesn't make sense to me.. should it?

      • Their own brand wasn't full HD, only 720p.

        • +1

Ahh well spotted, but doesn't really make a difference at this size.

        size* haha sorry

Not sure on the quality of this one, in store it looked grainy when playing Monsters Inc.

Animation should never look that way…

Thoughts? How's the power consumption compare?

I've heard stores can/will play around with the display quality in hope of upselling you "the better looking" tv, possibly at a higher price but they have a better margin on it. As this unit is discounted then there's a good chance that's all it is.

I have both this model as my main TV and also got the soniq the other month for the kids room and they look idenitcal quality wise. Vivo volume is louder than the soniq - I often only need the Vivo on Vol 1-4 (Only 1-2 at night otherwise it might wake the kids up) where the sonic is always on Vol 15-20. Firmware/Menu options are practically identical, just layed out differently. Soniq could plug ext HDD straight into it, I have to go through a mdeia player with usb input via HDMI on the Vivo to use an ext HDD. I like both TV's, although Soniq already has faulty LED's/pixels (whatever) and is need of repair while still under warranty.

If I needed to buy another TV I would not hesitate to get another Vivo.

Also, channel change speed and media access is slower on the Soniq.

That's exactly what they do, depending on what they want to move at the time.

I caught my local JB out with it once, all the Sharps were looking great & the Sammy/Pana/Sony etc sets all looked rather ordinary. One of the sales guys ran over like Usain Bolt when I started pulling up menus, so I called him on it…he just laughed & said yep, they wanted to dump a whole heap of Sharp stock that weekend!

I often do the same thing at Big W, but the staff there aren't as witty so it's not so much fun; & I'm still not sure if that's real or feigned ineptitude they show; but other customers are goggle-eyed when they see the TV display playing field levelled!!! ;)

        • Thanks for the useful information.

They also pull this when trying to upsell you with 'premium' HDMI cables by comparing two TVs. One has the branded cable, the other one with 'generic HMDI cable brand' (which in reality are composite cables). It's scummy as hell, but it works.

Great deal, the soniq would probably have been a slightly better quality unit, but $300 for a FHD 32" is peanuts for a bedroom tv, or second media monitor. Ill probably pick one up.

These TV's have HUGE power consumption.

    • +1

I dont see 145W as "HUGE" power consumption (about $0.30 for 10 hours watching @ $0.21 KWh)
My 63" Plasma is a touch power hungry as a comparison

      • +1

Agreed, IMHO eco-diligence is far better directed at more sustained sources of power haemorrhage than the humble TV…ie., heating, cooling, hot water systems, fridges & lighting!

Turning off unused devices at the power point is also far better than worrying about standby power drain too! ;)

  • i would guess its only 50Hz refresh rate.

It's probably worth noting that an extra $79 will put you in the driver's seat of an LED unit: http://dicksmith.com.au/product/GE6800/dick-smith-31-5-quot-… for the next 40mins or so! :)

  • here is a link to the energy ratings.
it may be one of these at the bottom.

  • PVR? play MKV, rmvb etc like the Soniq?

  • i own the one eljo was selling a month ago (took like 3 weeks to deliver wtf)
been using it as my bedroom computer monitor (32" monitor hohoho!) anyway my experience so far:

there are 2 "watermark" blemishes in the LCD…but i dont really care, the hassle of claiming warranty on this thing goes beyond the value i would get for getting a perfect image…and i dont notice it unless im 30cm from the screen and actively looking for them.

the lcd is SOOOOOOOOOOOO BRIGHT…i cant believe that this isnt LED. i basically dont use lights anymore in my room cause im going blind.

i have to keep lowering the brightness settings.

I cant seem to adjust the tv to a perfect brightness contrast colour setting for viewing webpages. text keeps appearing with a white glow on the edges unless i turn contrast down to near saturated levels

as a second tv this would be a BARGAIn. I unfortunately dont have an antennae in my room so cant use it. unless someone wants to reccommend indoor antennae to me. it has built in tuner.

the overall quality is acceptable for this price.
i dont use the speakers but its very handy to handle every type of input except dvi

if using as a monitor, it can handle 60hz. tv viewing is 50hz

if using hdmi, the image of ur desktop will stretch beyond the borders of the tv, meaning u have to work with a lower resolution. if u have a nvidia gfx, u can manually use the sliders in the nvidia control panel to create remove about 20 pixels from the edges of the screen resolution so it fits flush.

i watch anime, 720p movies and play games on this thing, sitting 50cm away (im trying to get a wireless kb mouse setup cause im going blind sitting this close)

am i happy with my purchase? yes

is this a bargain? $299 seems to be the bargain price for anything FHD 32"

the best panel is still the soniq 100/200hz LED FHD in JB for about $500 tho.

I just bought one last week, it has got 4 star rating. The DSE brand TV has got a 2 star rating and 720p resolution. It was a good buy in my opinion, ONE HD and GEM looked excellent.

  • lol soniq is such a rubbish brand

  • What's the general consensus on the value of extended warranties these days?

  • Picked up one today. Very happy with it for the price.

  • Just bought one today to use for a PC monitor until I can get a 2nd hand hi-res 27". Called ahead first and asked if I could bring my laptop (VGA & HDMI out) and Android tablet (HDMI out) in store to test first. The model listed in the catalog is a A32L07T is the same as the one on display in store. The model they are actually selling is a LTV32FHD - only realised after I'd taken it home and set it up. On the VIVO website the LTV32FHD seems newer and slightly higher spec (the model A32l07T listed in the Dick Smith catalog doesn't appear on the Vivo website ?)

    http://vivotvs.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypa…

In store I was able to find a menu setting to adjust the HDMI input from the PC to fit perfectly at 1920x1080 60Hz and also horz/vert adjust and phase/clock for perfect VGA sizing. The model I was supplied however has a different menu and I have the issue mentioned by furythree above :( also have watermarks down both sides.

On the plus side, it has 3 HDMI inputs instead of the 2 listed in the specs, and the USB port will read and play AVI's, DixV, etc. from a USB powered external hard drive so no media player required ! Hopefully a call to Vivo tomorrow will resolve the oversize PC display issue via HDMI, but overall happy with a big monitor for little $$$
