  • Thanks for this.

  • Can you use this to recharge your existing telstra prepaid cap?

    • doubtful

    • it does say "Starter Pack"..

    • It is possible to use credit me2u to transfer the credit to your existing prepaid plan. However, depending on the expiry date of your current prepaid plan, the credit transfer may not extend the credit expiry date (unless your existing service is about to expire, in that case, the expiry date may be extended for 7-14 days). You do need to activate the starter pack before you can use credit me2u.

The catch for the prepaid starter pack is: the credit will run out in 30 days (even if you pick the long life plan). However, there are ways to take advantage of this offer as Telstra does treat the $30 as real $30 credit in that 30 days.

      • Incorrect.

The credit of a starter pack is non transferrable, the only credit which can be transferred is that which has been recharged by the customer, eg a voucher

        • No.. you are incorrect. Credit me2u works. I tried it before. Many times.

        • I'll vouch for netsurfer, since I've also done this a few times successfully.

      • Lond life will give 6 months expiry on activating this, it just takes a few hours to update and show, otherwise call customer support.

        • Mate, stop assuming this is like a normal SIM + $30 credit. It is different. I bought these before. The $30 credit is 1 month only (regardless of the plan you pick). Called Telstra Customer Service to confirm. Read the terms and conditions properly.

Why do you think they are $10 each only? At $10, they are worth considering. At $30 each, they are no good (unless you really like the other Telstra prepaid plans with 1 month credit expiry).

  • I used one of these in a USB modem - $30 got 700Mb for a month, then recharged before it ran out & it (remaining $ credit) rolled over.

As for a recharge, the only way would be to claim you lost your sim, s you're bought this & want to activate and move your number across to the new sim.

    • Thx for the info.

Just to confirm so if I want to extend my Long Life Plan, which is going to expire soon, I can only take advantage of this offer by calling customer service and telling them I've lost my sim and 'accidentally bought' this starter sim pack?

I'm not sure if they would honour such transaction though… >_<

  • When I bought my $30 Mobile Prepaid Starter Pack from one of the Telstra stores, they gave me $20 discount only because I was transferring my number from another provider. The salesgirl told me it was a regular discount to everyone !!!

  • can you pool 5 x $30 recharges for one $150 12 month 10GB recharge? Might be a cheap way of getting the $150 recharge for $50?

    • yes and no. yes, you can pool together. no, not with 5 recharges.

the pooling you are referring to is called credit me2u by Telstra. It allows you to transfer upto $10 credit a day from one service to another for a 25c fee. So if you try to transfer $30 (over 3 days), you actually end up with $29.25 in the new account. which means with 5 packs you would only have $146.25. You could buy a 6th pack and transfer the remaining $3.75 and that would leave you with $26.50 on the 6th sim (after you take out the 25c transfer fee) to spend as you please (calls/text etc).

however, the caveat with all this theory is that someone who has actually successfully done it will need to confirm. i used to think it was possible, but going by what netsurfer said above regarding long life plan credit only lasting 30 days, it would appear that while you might get the 10gb, it will only last 30 days..

      • OK Guys, I bought this $10 offer in July & used for 700MB of Data in Telstra Turbo dongle I bought from ebay for $30.
Then after 30 days when data expired (2 weeks ago) I bought $150 credit from ebay for $85 and called Telstra customer service to get 10GB data for 365 days.

They said $150 were credited in 15x$10 using CreditMe2U and all $150 expires in 30 days.
I said "I am not happy as I bought Telstra credit from this website using my Paypal account & I should get $150 credit and not penalized due to seller who deceived me by entering 15x$10 credit" …mind you being polite and respectful all this time on the phone.

The girl was very nice and after 5 min, she confirmed with supervisor and entered 10GB for 365 days and also bonus 2GB(30 Days) for all the inconvenience caused to me.
Great customer service and a happy customer(me ofcourse!)

    • That is not possible as any me2u transfer to a broadband prepaid sim will buy data at the rate of the denomination of the transfer at the time, being $10, for like a measly 100mb.

    • The prepaid recharge is different as pointed out by chyawala. Buying it for mobile broadband is not a good idea (unless you have very low usage per month).

The only way to keep the credits is to have 2 of these (or more -> but credit me2u them to 2 SIMs to consolidate). Choose long life plan for all SIMs. Then, every 12 days, the two SIMs perform a small amount of credit me2u to each other (say $1), this way, the expiry date extends for another 12-14 days. You do lose 50 cents for each pair of credit me2u's. Doing this regularly a bit annoying though (you must remember to transfer ontime otherwise all the credits will be gone).

  • err.. 'end 31 october 2011' i.e. you can't activate it after then or that's when this offer is available till?

  • I'm pretty sure you did a typo because Wednesday is the 31st of August.
Their Cap+ plan looks like a must try for me :D

If anything this deal is only a bargain for two types of people:

    1. Someone who wants a quick throwaway sim, and does not intend on recharging.
    2. Someone who cannot sign up for a no-contract plan for some absurd reason. (Even a 14 year old can.)

For someone who spends less than $5 a month worth of "credit" then bam, here… http://www.tpg.com.au/mobile/plans.html#mobilepayg

There are many BYO capped plans which provide a billion times more value than pre-paid.

The only exception is the odd pre-paid plan that allows you to recharge once every year for less than $50 and you use every cent of it carefully. (Only then is it cheaper than a $1 per month budget plan where you can spend $18 and still have data, assuming the data is useless to you.)

Cool story bro, but how many match up to Telstra NextG's coverage and speeds? ;)

      • This does seem a good cheap option for prepaid data with them.

      • Well considering I need a special class of phones to even be able to get on the NextG network, I'm not that interested.

        • Conversely by your reasoning one could say Optus and Voda need special phones in comparisson to Telstra so why would anyone want to go with them lol

It's not a special class by any means just has to have UMTS850 rather than say UMTS900/2100 which are the bands Optus and Voda (although Voda are now putting UMTS850 in cities aswell) have been using. Some phones are now quad-band UMTS and will work on any Aust network (eg SGSII and iPhone4) anyway…

And for people with NO usage, there are even cheaper plans. What kind of person has a mobile phone and only uses $5 per month ROFL.

There is a massive difference is quality of service… if you've only used budget providers like Optus and Vodaphone, then you'd have no idea how much superior teh Telstra service is.

      • Agreed, if you are in a position with lots of money (inherited too much money from parents) and you want to pay a premium on a limited service then by all means pay for the 'extra service!'

If you want a good deal with Telstra consider a plan with them.

I have no problem with Telstra and I think they are probably the best/most reliable mobile carrier in Australia, but pre-paid is still a huge scam.

        • You've got to be kidding me…there are plenty of people for whom prepaid is the best option with the most obvious being those with bad credit ratings, can't commit to a 2 year contract, cant control their phone usage enough to avoid bill shock, etc.

Just because it isn't the best for you doesnt mean others dont need it and for the record no I dont use prepaid, I am a Telstra plan user….

want to pay a premium on a limited service then by all means pay for the 'extra service!'

Seriously get a Telstra NextG service and you will see why it is worth the extra. Better coverage in rural areas, next to no congestion and you can get data whenever you want it, it just works…same cant always be said for Australia's other budget mobile networks…

I earn every dollar of mine and none comes from my parents, but for an extra $20odd a month I'll happily pay that to get a much superior service because I have more important things to do than be stuffed around when my Optus service didnt want to get data…

      • I'm sure there are lots of people who don't make calls often but would have a mobile phone to receive calls, and thus not using lots of credit.

And this is exactly why Telstra and the like have things like "Long Life Plan".

        • yup, like my grandmother, she's on the T long life plan with the big button mobile i got her..

      • Llama… >> "What kind of person has a mobile phone and only uses $5 per month ROFL."

Me for one. Remember son, we are all different.

  • Just to let u all know.. the $30 initial credit means mud to any of the bonus options, long life, prepaid cap etc.

The initial $30 is $30, will last 30 days, and theres nothing to it. All those bonus options everyone is speaking of is effective from the first recharge

    • I am not sure sure you can be so sure about this…

      • Are you sure?

    • mungas is correct. $30 credit in the starter pack is good for 30 days. The only way to extend it is to regularly perform credit me2u into the SIM (say every 12 days). You still need to pick the long life plan.

This is not a SIM + $30 credit (unrestricted). It is a starter pack SIM with 1 month expiry on $30 restricted credit. Don't believe me? Call Telstra Customer Service.

      • Nope, it is SIM + $30 credit. When you call them to activate the sim they will ask you which plan to go, then you can choose one of the plan -including the long expiry day, unlimitted msg, etc. I called them just couple month ago to activate mine.

        • Did you pick long life? Most plans have 30 day credit expiry. I too called customer service to activate mine (long life), but when I called back and asked about how come the $30 credit expires in 30 days, the CSR reminded me the terms and conditions for these starter packs.

You can still go on the "long life" plan AND if you recharge properly with a genuine $30 voucher within 30 days, you can keep the $30 credit from starter pack + the $30 from the genuine recharge code. However, if you don't recharge within 30 days (and you don't transfer the credit out via credit me2u), then you will lose the $30 credit.

If you somehow convinced the CSR to extend your credits, then good for you. However, just want to point out based on the T&C, the credit is suppose to last 30 days (long time plan + recharge will extend it).

  • Does anyone know, if I could use this for the iPhone 4? As in, is there a microsim version?

    • You'd probably have to swap it over at a Telstra shop.

  • Unlimited night end Internet?

  • Would this be suitable for me? I just want a backup internet access method in case my home adsl dies for whatever reason. So I would only use it once a month if that. I would need it to last a long time preferably.

  • This would be the same as any other sim in regards to porting over my existing number from voda?
