Yeah. What is with the odd pricing. Just use price per kg like normal

Coles do charge per kg. It is only a price estimate for 1 apple.

      $3/kg

      Hardly a bargain.

Are these even new season, or straight out of cold storage from last year's crop?

The Coles Fresh specials from Wed-Tues might be a deal if they're super discounted, but this one is nothing special.

    • This just seems like normal fresh produce price fluctuations. New season apples started recently so they might be trying to get rid of old stock or have got a load of new season apples

      The Coles Fresh specials

I doubt these are fresh. The ones in our local store weren't.

Royal Gala Apples Loose 160g $0.48

How do these compare to the loyal ones?

  • Is it just me or are Royal Gala got a very high rate of being mushy?
I prefer Pink Lady apples, or Batlow.

$3/kg for Royal Gala is not exactly a bargain.

    • RG apples need to be eaten when they're ripe otherwise they . become chewy really easily.

    • My fav apples when they're fresh (new season). Agree they lose their crispness relatively quickly. Bought some at Aldi and Ww recently - crisp and juicy. Best recent price in my area was $3.50 a kilo so this deal represents a decent saving, IF the product is good. Pink Ladies tend to hold up a bit better in storage in my experience (off season PLs are crisper than off-season RGs) but both varieties lose their juiciness.

    • Batlow is a company that produce Royal Gala as well as other types of apples.

  • Heading to Singapore soon; one of the pleasures last time (apart from the Newton Food Centre) were exceptionally crisp and delicious Washington apples. Royal Gala are not in the same league.
