  • Got the phone yesterday. So far so good. camera is nice (and the flash is really good). The case that came with it is rubbish (expected) it makes the phone slide when holding so probably going to get a much more durable case on ebay/retail. Finger printer reader a hit and miss though, but could be due to a dry right thumb…might try again with other fingers. A very good screen and decent sound on speakers

    • Per my comments in this thread, the FP reader is a definite step down from a dedicated FP reader.
Programming the same finger more than once helps a little (as it does for a dedicated reader).

  • Thanks OP. Ordered yesterday and received an email today that it is for courier Pick up. Anyone uses a screen protector on this? Or it is not necessary?

  • would this be better than Oppo Reno Z?

    both 399 at the moment

    • would this be better than Oppo Reno Z?

Yes of course never go to Mediatek processor.

      • i prefer the reno

    • The screen, cameras and processor are all better than the oppo.

      • not really, oppo has faster response time on most apps and more ram

Camera also better on the oppo but perhaps the screen better on xiao

        • One thing Xiaomi can install GCAM and Oppo can't

        • Xiaomi does have a high dxo mark. And the snapdragon 730 outperforms the mediatek…

    • Having used both:
      * the cameras on the 9T & Reno Z are similar, but the 9T has a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom & once you add GCAM, the 9T camera craps all over the Reno Z.
      * the 9T's SD730 is considered a better SOC that the Reno Z's Helio P90.
      * the display on the 9T is a full screen display, whilst the Reno Z has a notch.
      * MIUI 11 is miles ahead of ColorOS 6.
      * the Reno Z has more RAM and stereo speakers going for it.

Both are solid phones, but I feel the 9T is slightly better in almost every way.

      • What is your opinion of notch Vs pop up camera?

I have the usual concerns about popup camera being non durable but the other concern is get unlock basically won't work as a quick backup for fingerprint.

Is the in screen finger print scanner fairly good?

        • Despite the annoyance of the increen FP reader and popup camera, I'd still rate the Xiaomi streets ahead of the Oppo solely cause Oppo pump and dump their phones within 12 months. No further software updates, they only come with the next model.

The in-screen FP reader is poor compared to a dedicated FP reader.
It works, but can take a few attempts and is always slower than you might be used to coming from a dedicted FP reader phone.
And yes, as a result of the popup camera face-unlock takes awhile to work and has to be manually activated (I think, but maybe there's a setting to change that)

Your opinion is the only one that counts on notch vs popup, you've already picked the convenience difference, so is the notch abhorrent to you and can you live with the convenience tradeoff of the popup?

      • do you think its worth the extra $50?

  • How do we upgrade to android 10? Is it through carrier or the mobile app updater.

    • +1

There is no carrier certification for MIUI updates.
They come as soon as they're available.

If theres is anyone else waiting for their order to be fullfilled; i contacted JB HI FI and they said another batch had arrived and they will ship on monday. FYI im in WA

    • Nice. My order marked as "fulfilled" which apparently means it's left the warehouse, but still no tracking number from AusPost.

    • Having said my previous comment, my order is still marked as unfulfilled. Grrrr

  • Thanks got a one in store to replace my HTC 10. Great phone for the price and i'm happy with that. Camera is fine for me.

Question: has anyone installed the latest update to Android 10. I have seen online saying don't get the latest update.

    • I'm on MIUI 11.0.4, Android 10 and it's been a noticeable improvement from the previous version.
I had previous issues with a faint screen flicker on scrolling that is now gone and responsiveness feels better too.

  • I bought 2 x 9T's from stores that said online had no stock. One of the stores had 3 in stock, but came up as out of stock online. Same with a TCL Plex that I picked up for my Mum.

The online stock check from JB is not 100% accurate. Call ahead to check.

Even though I was late to shoot/order, I was able to obtain 2 x 9T's for the Mrs and myself and a TCL Plex in one afternoon, from 2 local Syd metro stores with physical/phone checks, 3-4 days after they were ozbargained online.

Well worth a call or physical turn up to check stock rather than rely on JB's website.

    • how much did they discount it for the bulk buy?

      • No further discount. I didn't ask since they were already reduced and stock obtained from 2 separate stores over 2 transactions. 9Ts were discounted using the above code to $399 and TCL $250 with headphones.

    • Which stores have stock of 9T?

      • Southbank still has for the red apparently

  • This deal only valid till tomorrow?

I know this post is a touch Old. But I thought I might be able to help someone who's looking at buying this phone.

I own the Mi 9T Pro (Bought for $545 off ebay)

In terms of performance you're not going to notice much of a different between the pro and the non-pro version.

Camera wise it is incredible for the main camera. I personally don't take selfies (or at least very few) hence my lack of concern for the pop-up camera plus upgrading from the pocophone f1 the fullscreen display is incredible.

The oled screen and watching 4kHDR video on youtube (have to override screen resoultion check) it looks amazing you can notice the difference between 1080p youtube and 4khdr youtube even the screen itself is 1080p. I'm not sure how that works but there is a day and night difference.

    I have 2 pet peeves.

First is the high battery drain from MIUI 11. I'm losing 1.2-1.3% per hour which is absurdly high (ideally 0.7%) I've tried everything to fix the issue reinstalling MIUI I'm currently rooted and running some battery specific modules that helped bring down my idle drain from 1.8 to what it is now.

Second is the ultrawide, it is good and handy although has an unbelievable amount of noise and really only usable in very well lit conditions (think outside on a very sunny day) even cloud cover and slightly low conditions exaggerate the noise and more often than not produce an unusable or at the very least an undesirable image.

The only non-perfect solution I've found is using a gcam it does improve both the main camera as well as the ultrawide and provides a much better night mode when compared to the stock cam. That being said the ultrawide is still very noisey (I don't think that's a word)

The only fix I can think of for the battery drain would be a custom ROM (AOSP based). The only reason I've not added one is because all of the custom ROMs available don't have the fingerprint scanner working as well as the stock rom (they work, just not as fast/accurate) and I have no intel based computers/laptops in my house anymore.

When using miflash or miunlock there is a known issue that Xiaomi phones doen't work well with Ryzen based systems (I really don't know why and I've got no idea if its going to be solved)

If anyone has any questions about the Mi 9T Pro I own I'm more than happy to respond to them

I hope this comment helped at least one person :)

Thank you, I don't know how my dumb**s didn't know this

  • I got a flame Red yesterday. Haven't opened it yet, any recommendations on colour?

They wouldn't show me the colours in store and said I had to look at the website….

    • +1

Doesn't matter imo because you're gonna slap a case on it. But yeah colour is down to personal preference, I thought the carbon black looked pretty sleek so I got that one.

      • thats hot.. i can always change colour as long as I dont open

  • I had placed my order on 11/02 but my order hasn't been dispatched yet. Online account is showing status as "Fulfillment Status: Fulfilled". Has anyone else faced the similar issue?

Merged from JB Hi-Fi Where Is My Order ???

I had placed my online order to JB Hi-Fi for Xiaomi Mi 9T on 11/02/2020 and soon after I had received order confirmation email from JB Hi-Fi. Since then I am waiting for my order to be shipped and shipping confirmation email but haven't received email. Online status of order shows "Fulfillment Status: Fulfilled". Does anyone know what does this status mean? Has anyone else faced similar issue with JB Hi-Fi delivery/online orders?

    • Yes! I'm in the same boat.

I've contacted JB numerous times trying to locate my order. Fulfilled means it's been processed by the warehouse. Apparently after that you should get a tracking number once the parcel is scanned by AusPost.

My order was marked as fulfilled Friday. Still no tracking number. I'm made nervous by the fact that JB doesn't ask for your parcel locker number, just the address of the lockers.

    • +2

Another one with a fulfilled order. Bit confusing that is says it under shipping. Should say allocated or something, as it's not sitting in my hand, so I'm unfulfilled!

      • Update. Now says shipped but no tracking number…

        • Further update. It arrived last Friday!
Was a bit slow in ordering a case so will live in its box for a bit longer.

First impressions were good. Looks sharp, nice proportions and feels hefty (in a quality way)

          • @Derekthetree: FYI the phone included a case in the box. I am still waiting for my screen protector…

            • @wlqrichard: Yeah but it covers up the nice carbonfibrey back!

              Feels pretty cheap too…

    • My status is still "Unfulfilled" I have a bad feeling that they may cancalled my order :(

      • Weird there's tons of stock. Both colours were available in store for me.

Definitely lots of stock so that's weird

    • After following up with JB Hi-Fi online multiple times, finally I have got the tracking number. My order is with Toll now but online status at JB Hi-Fi is still Fulfilled. Checked the tracking number at Toll website and apparently their tracking system is having some issues since last few days, hence, not showing any detail for my delivery. Called Toll and they have no clue where my order is. "Toll Investigation Team" is going to look for this shipment now and will contact me later.

  • +2

Contacted JB. Had delivery estimate for 26th of this month when I ordered on 12th. They confirmed no shipment before that date - ie. no update, no earlier shipment

Arrives on or before 25 Feb 2020

cool coolcool cool coolcoolcool cool cool no doubt no doubt

      • Community! great series

      Damn that sucks!
Mine came in 2 days for standard $4.99 shipping. It seems stock had arrived in Melbourne also.

    • Arrived 21 Feb. This is a niiiiiice phone

  • +1

6 days after the order was processed at the warehouse and marked as "Fulfilled", JB finally provided me with a tracking number. To my complete lack of surprise, AusPost cannot find the tracking number. It's not in the same format as any other parcel locker delivery I've received so I'm not convinced it's legit.

And to think I thought a delivery from JB would be less trouble than a grey import.

    • To my complete lack of surprise, AusPost cannot find the tracking number.

Are you sure from auspost or courier?

    • Just checked my order, it got shipped :) and as you said auspost can't find my tracking number too.

    • Well colour me pink, my tracking number has now appeared in AusPost. I'm relieved now. It's very late, but at least I have tracking.

  • +2

I've been using this phone for the past week. It's excellent

    • +2

Same here, very surprised what $399 gets you these days

      • Can I ask you guys how did you make the UI better

The colours in JB hi-fi and the home screen looked terrible, like a child drew on it or an old of with 256 colours

  • anyone got recommendations for screen protector?

    • I just ordered the PULEN case and screen protector pack from Amazon.
It's not going to be here quickly, bit looks good. I wanted a clear case with minimal corner bumps

    • +1

Screen protector + case thoughts, in case it helps anyone looking for accessories:

One phone case that seems to have the most positive reviews from a large number of people is this one: https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Rugged-Armor-Designed-Xiaomi/d…

That's the Amazon US site though. Same item is being sold on Amazon.com.au by progadgets: https://www.amazon.com.au/Spigen-Rugged-Armor-Designed-Xiaom… - but that's $24, inc delivery.

You can get it for $20 delivered from the same progadgets seller on eBay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-9T-9T-Pro-Redmi-K20-Pr…

That's what I got, and it's a nice case if you need something with more protection than the standard thin case that comes in the box (the Spigen one protects the top / bottom / corners, and is raised around the screen to protect the screen). Has a cut out for the pop up selfie cam & so forth, so the phone all works well. Comes with a proper tax invoice, with a note that they're an authorized spigen reseller (and I'm sure the case is legit), and was received in 4 business days.

For the screen protector I got this: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/113873972307 - Zuslab Tempered Glass Protector. Local stock, $6 delivered, arrived in 4 business days. Fits fine. Doesn't seem to be rough on the edges. Fingerprint unlocking works 90 to 95% of the time, but I didn't set up fingerprint locking before applying the screen protector, so I can't compare to say whether it was better without a screen protector. But I read online that the fingerprint reader is not always reliable (without any screen protector), so I suspect it may just be the phone itself. There's a note on the phone about only using approved screen protectors, but I have struggled to find some list of approved screen protectors, let alone with local stock, so in the end I just went with this.

Did you guys removed the white sticker at the back of the phone?

    • I really want to take it off, but the sticker say "To protect your consumer rights, please keep this label intact." and the sticker looks ugly too if I don't want to use case :(

      • "To protect your consumer rights, please keep this label intact."

Why needs a label to protect your consumer rights? XD

    • Yep, came straight off.

  • Hi All,

I bought one of these from JB HiFi did the unlock and went straight into installing Pixel Experience.

I had some issues along the way and now I am stuck in fastboot mode, the only way out is to flash it with a stock ROM using MiFlash utility, but so far every ROM I have tried as given error that there is a mismatch between the image and device.

I recall it updated to MIUI11 but I didn't take down the exact version it was running :(

Can someone who has one from Australian stock / JBhifi go into settings and let me know the exact version it runs?

    Thanks
    Will

    • MIUI Global 11.0.4 Stable 11.0.4.1 (QFJMIXM)

      Android version 10 QKQ1.190825.002

      Does that help?

      • Thanks for taking time to do that.. I couldn't actually find an exact match to that for Rom online (just like the upgrade files).

    • Mine is the almost exactly the same as philo's, except it's "Stable 11.0.4.0" instead of "11.0.4.1".

Did you work out what went wrong? Did you install TWRP first? Were you successful in restoring a MIUI image? Forgive the questions, I'm just considering installing a custom ROM (and Pixel Experience sounds like the best one to try first), but if it's going to brick my phone, I'd like to know before doing it, or find out how to avoid it.

      • It was during the install of twrp when it went into the loop. Needed to be in fastboot mode to install twrp then it wouldn't load and I couldn't just restart into normal mode 😢

I have done this a few years ago on another Chinese phone so I have some idea but no expert (obviously).

My advice would be to make sure you have the right version of os on it for the process and record of that plus a backup image file. And make sure you have compatible version of twrp.

Actually anyone who does it correctly would be good to know the exact versions of everything and the process. In theory miflash program should just load up a new version but it just doesn't like any I download!

For now I have given up for a while till I have a few hours spare to try now roms.

  • I was able to get one of these for $395 from officeworks today.

    • How?

      • you don't wanna know ;) ;)

      • price match tobys site
