        • I have the pro version of this phone and I can say the pop up camera is not at all flimsy, I'd say your more likely to snap your charging cable inside the phone than snap the pop up camera. I found I much perfected having the full display to having a notch or bezel and battery life is also amazing coming from a galaxy s8. Also the screens is also a AMOLED on this

          • @Zarlia: Fair enough, but this display is super AMOLED better then normal AMOLED ,also support dual Sim ,also support expendable memory, and as 2year warranty compared to 1year with this one

            • @hitman48: Yea ok, overall they are both very similar and probably just depends on personal preference and use case.

              • @Zarlia: Yeah true ,they all pretty good these days

  • Anyone tried Gcam on this? Does it improve camera quality?
EDIT: nevermind, saw some comments above.

  • hhhm this or a Galaxy S9 ($550) for browsing and general pics/video?

(discounted the pixel 3a on battery life)

Wife is up for a replacement from a galaxy S6.

    Thanks.

    • base on what you will use it for, i would get this. Save yourself $150

  • Does it have Android One or Stock Android by any chance? If not, does it come with Xiaomi firmware like other phones? Thanks.

    • it has miui you can unlock the bootloader and install pixel experience rom

      • Excuse my naivety - is the process easy? Where can I find the exact process to do it?

    • It comes with MIUI, Xiaomi's version of Android.
But MIUI now allows you to have a non-iPhone, more Android like desktop and app drawer.

Xiaomi also offer reasonable software support for a decent length of time.

And finally this phone has heaps of Custom ROM support.

      • I see.. Do you mean it's as clean as Android One and no need to change it for cleaner experience? How to use the Custom ROM support that the phone has?

  • Does anyone know how this compare to the s10?

    • Well S10 is nearly double the price but it has IP rating and wireless charging.

    • This phone is also midrange specs compared to the s10 flagship

  • is this better than REDMI note 8 pro

    6.53 inches 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~395 ppi density), Corning Gorilla Glass 5, HDR - Fingerprint (rear-mounted)
    Rear Camera: 64 MP, f/1.9 (wide) + 8 MP, f/2.2 (ultrawide) + 2 MP, f/2.4 (dedicated macro camera) + 2 MP, f/2.4 - Front Camera: 20 MP, f/2.0 - Video: 2160p@30fps
    128GB + 6GB RAM - microSD, up to 256 GB - MediaTek Helio G90T Octa-core - Non-removable Li-Po 4500 mAh battery - Android 9 Pie

    • Note 8 pro was on sale on Aliexpress yesterday, maybe still is?
      I picked up 6Gb / 64 Gb version for $312 aud delivered.

Both phones have stronger sides and weaker sides when compared one to another. For me advantages of Note 8 Pro are greater than advantages of Mi9T, at least on paper. I read several reviews, interestingly enough performance of Note 8 Pro is better that Mi 9T - AnTuTu: 224759 (v7), 279355 (v8) vs 219448. Note 8 Pro has bigger battery and lasts longer in real-life tests.

Back fingerprint scanner vs behind-the-glass etc.

Mi9T video stab works in more modes. Mi9T also has a telephoto lens, pop-up selfie camera (adds a delay if you want to use face-unlock) and support aptX HD codec. Note 8 Pro has infrared port, Mi9T - AMOLED screen (slightly smaller though)

And, for sure, you can use MicroSD card with Note 8 Pro where Mi9T does not have that option.

  • Got an a70 currently. This looks like an upgrade albeit a small one but could almost sell my a70 for the same price and get a better phone. Thoughts?

I'm still hanging out for a Xiaomi a3 or Mi 9 Lite deal…. If you see one let me know!

  • Thanks OP, bought one instore at jb colonades.. they had 1 x black and 1 x red left..

  • I have this phone. Absolutely excellent especially for the price. So fast and the battery life - well, I bought a power bank but I never need to use it. My previous phone was a Samsung A50 which is slooooooow and battery does't last the whole day.

  • Got the last black at Roselands, NSW. Thanks OP!

  • Bit the bullet and bought it. Upgrading my wife's phone which is the old MI5 phone.

  • anyone tried officeworks for price beat?

    • It's a coupon discount not the regular stocked price

    • Have you read OW T&C for pricematch? Here

  • Thanks OP just bought one for the old man to replace is old Oppo R# whatever.

  • When does this deal expire?

    • 17th of Feb or until sold out

Item(s) ready for pick up today within 1 hour of purchase at Bunbury Home (3621.24km away).

    Delivery it is, then.

  • I have 200 bucks of xmas Westfield vouchers so I have to take advantage of JB deals instore to be smart about it. Do these coupon codes work instore?

    • +1

It says in the email that you can do it in-store.

Print out coupon email with barcode fully legible.
Visit your local JB Hi-Fi store.
Present the printed coupon at the checkout when ordering the coupon product.

      • Thanks mate, I didn't realise there was a print-out since I don't have the email signed up and only saw it here on ozbargain. Guess I'm SoL?

        • +1

Hmm on the instant deals page it says if you sign up it should send it out within a few minutes, worth giving it a shot.

          • @FrugalFrella: Thanks for the babysitting, am new to this. Much appreciated!

          • @FrugalFrella: yeah but only sends codes for the current jabba headset deal.

            • @grimo82: Same here. Pretty unfortunate. Oh well.

              • +1

@jawa: I've already ordered one using the generic code in this post which is the same as what I was emailed. The email I received looks like it's just a generic barcode that converts to the same coupon code.

Might be worth calling JB and seeing if they would accept the coupon code in store. This is the barcode in my email tho if that helps
                https://i.imgur.com/gVr3pCg.jpg

    • Yes - can confirm you can get it in store as long as you have the original email/coupon code.

  • No IP rating / water resistance?

    Dealbreaker with kids unfortunately :(

    • +1

It has all the waterproofing features, but no official rating.
check out the Jerryrigeverything review (possibly of the k20 or k20 pro, same hardware, different software) on Youtube.

    • +1

It's a $400 phone, not sure what we're you expecting? Most mid range phones with that price won't have that.

    • It doesn't have official ip rating but I believe it does have some water resistance. There's a few dunk tests on youtube.

  • +4

I am absolutely loving this phone and cannot recommend it more - got it about 6 months ago. Moved from a Pocofone with an 845, and this feels just as snappy. The 9T Pro might be better for future proofing (and 4K 60fps VS 30fps on the 9T), but this chipset is still seriously high end.

Custom ROM scene is pretty good, but not as good as the Pro. Been running Pixel Experience for months now, and it's in a pretty good spot now :~)

    • Is it hard to do custom ROM? I like the Xiaomi hardware but not so sure about the software on these phones.

      • +2

The Aussie MIUI software is decent.

I've Custom ROM'ed all of my handsets within the first week of ownership except this one. There are still downsides, but not nearly as many as there used to be.

Installing custom ROMs is easy, but takes time and can be daunting if you're not comfortable doing things in the command line of your computer.

      • +2

No, it really isn't difficult. Some basic computer knowledge needed (following basic instructions for cmd prompt to use ADB, for example), but after the first time, it's very easy to manage.

The usual ~1 week cooldown period to unlock the bootloader, though, however.

Here's the ROM I've been rocking, and for months now, if I need to update, I just download the ROM and flash it through the TWRP custom recovery mode: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-9t/development/unofficia…

Happy to help if you need a hand.

        • +1

do you have google pay working?

          • +1

@Bowchkawowow: Yep, works great! There's steps on how to get in working in that XDA thread

        • What's the pros and cons of getting this rom?

          • +2

@JetBombat: It's easier to show/feel than explain in words, but stock Android really is just cleaner and smoother. I haven't found a vendor ROM that doesn't just feel bloated and clunky relatively, even if there are some cool innovative features. I really tried hard with MIUI this time, as I buy into the hype every major release that it'll finally be great. And don't get me wrong, it is good as far as they go. It still just feels clunky, slow and wrong.

Also, way too much spooky stuff about the Chinese government receiving personal data from Xiaomi software, in my opinion

  • I'm confused between this or the V30+ which is the same price

  • Put together with Suncorp 5% off JB voucher plus postage (since closest was 100kms away) I got it for $383.79 all up :) thanks for the post! Been waiting for this one to come here.

    • -1

or you could just price beat at office works :)

      • Think people have been unsuccessful with the 'awaiting stock' sign now on the website

        • It said that from when I ordered. I now have a paid and confirmed order for delivery though. It just means there's little to no stock in stores. You can still order for delivery.

      • +2

        from OW site:

"Excludes Cashback and coupon offers (i.e. supplier cashback or reduced price available via paper coupon or electronic codeword)"

  • Great deal, thank you :) Can anyone recommend a cheapie case/screen protector as well? Hopefully one that actually covers the whole screen!

    • I believe there is a case in the box, no screen protector though.

Can anyone with the phone confirm if it supports VoLTE and/or VoWiFi on Telstra?

Don't have a great 3G signal at my place so I have to rely on VoLTE or VoWiFi.

    I Found:-

This person confirming it works on Boost for their K20 Pro Chinese variant
This person confirming it works for their 9T Pro on Telstra in Oct 2019.
This person saying it wasn't supported by the 9T Pro back in Oct 2019

So I wanted to check if it works for this 9T Australian variant sold by JB.

    • +1

Was working for me last year but ever since I reset my phone it does not work. I have applied the VOLTE trick again to force enable it but its no longer working for me.

Open your dialer and dial *#*#VOLTE#*#* and it should say something like "VOLTE carrier check has been disabled." and then Volte used to work. Not anymore for me at least. I tried calling boost and getting them to turn it on, I tested on a Pixel 3 and works there but not on my Xiaomi.

      • Interesting. I had a similar thing with my Moto G7 Power (Telstra sells it on their site, but I bought retail). VoLTE didn't work out of the box but it showed up after I reset the phone once. So, the opposite of how it went for you, haha.

Anyways, thank you so much for the reply!

    • This person(whrl.pl) saying it wasn't supported by the 9T Pro back in Oct 2019

I resemble that remark, as well as this one:

      https://whrl.pl/RfYqV0

      • So it works after the reset and using the code, right?

  • Does this phone take sd cards?

    • +1

      Nope. No SD Card support.

  • -3

What is its original price? i.e. how much off is this one?

  • Anyone has idea on how is this compared to Samsung A71? I know price will be doubled, but I don't change phone often and am looking for a phone that I can use for a couple years (not 1 or 2 years).

    • +2

IMO - the A71 at double the price would not be worth it over the 9T. The 9T wins in design (full screen, no punch-hole) & camera (the A71 uses the Samsung S5KGW1 camera sensor which has been rated poorly in other phones like the Redmi Note 8 Pro). The Samsung wins with the bigger battery & SD card. The other differences are subjective (One UI v MIUI, 6.7" v 6.4").

If you plan to cough up $700 for the A71, I'd consider a few extra $$ and a proper flagship (like the S10, Pixel, etc).

      • Thanks for the advice, I'll wait for s10 to drop in price as s11 is out soon.

  • Can someone post a copy of the barcode email jbhifi have sent to you? Instore keep saying it's $599

    • You can probably make your own. At the end of the day, barcode is just a way to read those same numbers.

Try this, no guarantee that it'll work: https://imgur.com/a/JYUUf73

  • How will this compare to the old Pocofone F1. I have the Pocofone F1 and looking for another one for my miss.
Is Xiaomi 9T expandable via micro SD?
    Thank you

    • The following applies to the Mi 9T:-

      1. No SD Card
      2. Better display.
      3. Better Back Camera. Not sure about the Front Camera, maybe someone else can chime in. No 4K60 recording though.
      4. No notch, but motorised camera = more moving parts, and that's never good for a portable device. I know they have drop protection where the camera retracts when it detects a fall. Just something you should be aware of.
      5. Worse at gaming, but I suppose she's not playing COD Mobile or something heavy, right?
      6. Slightly better battery. May not even be noticeable.
      7. No IR based facial scanning, that the Poco F1 does have. But the F1 is not perfect either
      8. Fingerprint scanner is inside the display, so it's not as fast and accurate as a rear mounted one, like on the F1.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

      • +6

Mi 9T also has NFC and Band 28 which I believe the Pocophone doesn't.

      • No IR based facial scanning, that the Poco F1 does have.

Mi 9T Pro has face unlock (the selfie cam pops up which is a bit too cool for a Gen Xer to have) - I would guess the 9T does as well?

  • Thought this was for the Xiaomi MI 9T Pro.

    I'll pass :)
