    rosewood?

    • I can't find out which hard drive is inside because I need to know this as well before I buy it.

      • +12

        I'm reasonably confident it's a Seagate.

    • +6

      Found out the answer…

      It has ST2000LM007 hard drive
      which is Rosewood

      • +1

Thanks of the info. Not going to bother with Rosewood…
It looks like XB1X might also be using Rosewood though… :(

      • +1

        thanks

        damn stupid seagate
they didn't learn anything from the last crap hdd they had 7200.11
which badly damaged their reputation..all so they can save money in manufacturing these rosewood drives

wonder if the seagate 4TB/5TB portable also has rosewood?

        unfortunately WD portables aren't shuckable..

        • From what I understand (which could be wrong) it is mainly 1 and 2tb ones that have Rosewood

      • yep mine is also a ST2000LM0007, out of curiosity my ST3500413AS is at 28196 power on hours now :D

        • It's got legs to go a bit further!!

  • can this be shucked?

    • +1

I think so as most of the Seagate ones have normal 2.5" drives, better to check online to be safe

    • +3

Yes it can, ive shucked a couple of these before to put in SFF cases.

    • One of the easiest drives to shuck. Most likely a Seagate low end laptop 2.5" drive inside.

  • +1

Can this be used as an external storage for PS4? Thanks!

    • +4

      Yes.

FYI comments on Amazon will often ask such questions too. Though sometimes you gotta be weary as there's some real useless comments there every so often. Just check for the most popular.

May be useful to know as often Amazon deals can expire as quick as you can ask the question….

    • Yeah, it'll work plug and play. But you can only use one external hard drive so 2TB may be too small.

      • Does this need to be reformatted before using with the PS4? Or is it actually just plug and play?

        • Pretty sure PS4 will do it automatically for you.

From an Australian no less in the Amazon review…. Fking idiot.

Good product, but it's 1.81 TB, not 2!
Where did the other 19 GB go??
19 GB is a lot of space, I paid for 2 TB, and that's what I expected, at least close would be good…but 19 bloody GB!?.
Apart from that, it's a very good product.

    • +58

Lol, nobody tell him that's it's actually 190GB missing.

    • +12

      GST GB Tax.

    • +6

It's the same with all hard drives, because Windows has always calculated the kilobytes in hard drives as powers of 1024 while hard drive manufacturers use powers of 1000. For instance for a 500GB drive: 500,000,000,000 / (1024 * 1024 * 1024) = 465.66 GB.

      • Also minus filesystem overhead.

      • +5

We know, well atleast most of us do, don't try explaining what you said to the reviewer though :)

    • +1

      The matrix took it

  • Anyone know its rpm?

    Thanks

    • +3

      would be 5400rpm

    • +1

Most likely bottom of the barrel Seagate laptop drive.

  • so would it be too slow to use with xbox one just for extra backup?

    • +2

You could use it with Xbox no probs

    • +2

No problems. Even the internal HDD inside the XB1 is 5400 rpm. Same difference.

    • +1

I use one with my Xbox one. Most of my games are on it and it runs fine.

    • +1

Nah, it'll work fine. It's basically the same speed as the internal Xbox One drive but over a USB 3.0 interface.

  • can we shuck this and use it as the main hdd for a desktop?

    • +3

There are SSD deals so often here, I got 240GB crucial BX500 for $36 delivered for my main drive, I have this 2TB one for backup

      • +6

Yeah you’d be crazy to use this (or any HDD) as your primary drive

        • Why is that? I have no clue and was going to buy one of these as my main storage backup.

          • +1

@OzBoganYeah: for backup HDD is ok, SSD is better for OS drive with higher RW speeds. even a cheapest SSD is much better than a HDD in that case

          • +1

@OzBoganYeah: HDDs are slow so you’ll want an SSD as your primary drive to boot off. The drive is fine for storage

      • That $36.00 price is long gone if i'm not mistaken. Prices for SSD's seems to have gone up a bit. Those BX500 - 240GB SSD's are now over $50

    • Sure can. But it wouldn't be fast as a primary drive.

    • I'd recommend a cheap $30 120GB SSD and this as a secondary storage for games/files.

Got two at OW for 59.83 each

    • +1

      Really?

    • -1

      pic or didn't happen

      • +2

        Ow r price matching

    • -1

They wouldn't price match for me as shipped from America and not 'readily available'.

      • +1

These are shipped locally since it’s from Amazon Australia

    • I just price matched it in office work too for $59.83.

Although, I had the delivery date on February 13 on amazon when I showed the webpage to the customer agent. She checked the site thoroughly for 3 mins I guess. Thankfully she didnt refreshel the page or they might not have honored it.

    • I went in store to ask for price match but they wouldn't as they said Amazon has it on back order. Decided to try my luck by calling OW instead & they price matched with no issue.

  • +4

2 Month delivery? is that right?

    • +1

oh geez i didnt even see that you're right.. sigh

    • +1

My order is estimated 13-14th of Feb. looks like they’ve sold all existing stock and are waiting for later shipments

    • Ozbargained :D

  • Am I the only one reading “Usually dispatched within 1-2 months”?

  • Wow those days I paid $100 for 2tb…..

    • +7

Pffff, back in the day I paid $500 for 20mb…..

      • Lol I just got 2tb for 100 2 years ago

  • -1

Hmmmm USB 3. Rather prefer USB C.

    • +1

      Not at this price.

    • +7

You wouldn’t get better speeds though since the drive isn’t that fast

    • +2

      Can't you just use a usb C cable adapter/coverter

    • +3

USB3 is the USB standard, aka speed.

USB C is the actual physical plug.

USB Micro B for USB 3 is kinda ugly and cumbersome, but won't affect the performance at all

C might mean you need one less cable, but you then need to make sure its a USB 3 Type C instead of USB 2 Type C which are the majority out there. Since people are needing higher current rating aka thicker wires, instead of more wires for USB 3.

  • +3

    Looks like it has expired.
Only a seller called 'zhoushiyuanxudian' is selling them at that price now, but they just launched today, so be cautious.

    • Thanks mate! I marked it expired

  • Just got OW to price match… Paid $59.83

  • damn missed it

  • +1

    Just got an email :(

We're unable to fulfill your order for the item(s) listed above because they are no longer available from the supplier. As a result, we've had to cancel them from your order and your original payment method won't be charged for them.

    • Got the same email.

    • +1

      Got the same email :(

    • +1

Did some reading on how terrible these HDDs are meant to be reliability-wise. Cancelled my order soon after I placed it. Who knows? Maybe Amazon are actually doing everyone a massive favour
