Samsung 250GB Portable Solid State Drive T5 $93.45

      Hi mate,
Samsung T5 is older technology with less read & write speeds. This one is M.2 NVMe

      • Yeah but the brand is better.

I've had two out of two orico enclosures fail within a month of purchase. No fricking way I'd trust them with my data.

        • This product comes with a 1 year warranty.

          Enclosures or portable SSDs?

          • -1

            @Clear: It's a portable SSD

          • +1

@Clear: The products I had fail were enclosures. If they can't get that right, I can't trust them.

            • @justtoreply: Thanks for clarifying. Were they the transparent ones?

              • @Clear: Yep

                • @justtoreply: Damn I just bought a heap. Mainly because they have the capacitors to prevent data loss while the cheapies don't.

                  • @Clear: Maybe they've fixed it by now. Who knows. Mine was this:
ORICO 2139U3 2.5 inch Transparent USB3.0 Hard Drive Enclosure

        • +1

All my enclosures are Orico, been using them for years, yet to have one fail.

          • @MatthewTeng: Who knows. Maybe my package was dropped.

            • @justtoreply: Maybe I've been very lucky. Maybe since I bought most of mine while in China and it didn't go through international freight. Really hard to know who's the statistical outlier.

Did it damage the drives either time? Or did only the enclosure stop working?

    • Speed is different.

Samsung T5 500GB can be had for as low as $129. I personally will avoid all Orico products. Sorry OP but Orico is not a good brand to trust.

Data point on the T5s for anyone interested (have had them a year now).

We have half dozen T5 2TB and they work hard each day out in the field and in the office. They live in the laptop bags just loose kicking around with mice, cables and powerbanks. Have had plenty of (unintended) drops to carpet and concrete floors with no issues so far (except getting a few dents). They are darn fast. Samsung update their firmware semi-regular it seems as well. To date each firmware upgrade has been painless. We use bitlocker on them.
