I would be worried if my doctor needed a course to teach him how to wash hands

how much is this course normally OP?

    • +2

Hi docians, thanks for your comment, it is not just teach how to wash hands, it is more about understanding why and when with evidence-based information.
It is important for healthcare professionals to update their knowledge by taking this course in order to:
      * Select an appropriate hand antiseptic.
      * Reduce your risk of irritant contact dermatitis by appropriate hand drying and moisturising as well as correct glove use.
      * Consistently and correctly perform hand antisepsis.
      * Follow the ‘Five Moments’ recommendations
.
It is part of our Mandatory Training Module which previously only can be accessed with an Ausmed Subscription which is $360 per year (minimal subscription duration is 3 months)

    • Most health organisations require annual completion of a hand hygiene module, which does change ever so slightly each year. Many organisations use Hand Hygiene Australia, which is free regardless of if you work in the health profession or not.

Admittedly no CPD, but also not run by a commercial company. This is just more of an advertisement for Ausmed

Hi Jimmy, thanks for your comment. I respect the fact that there are many free resources available online, and you can also find many of them on our website as well: https://www.ausmed.com.au/cpd/articles
However, our Online Courses and Mandatory Training Modules are well developed with video learning activities, high engaged quizzes and collaborated learning approach, and they are regular reviewed to maintain high standards, which are normally not free.

      • Yep. My experience has been that employers that require this supply the module for free.

Seems like another one of those private “education” companies that now charge significant amounts of $ to provide basic courses that used to be relatively cheap at tafes etc

Granted this course is free, but as I said, anywhere I have worked that requires it has provided the module for free

Hi parsimonious, thanks for your comment. We also work with organisations and provide free LMS for them. The organisations can also provide organisational subscriptions to their staff so that their staff can get all of our resources for free. Or the organisations can subscribe to our SCORM library, and import our resource into their existed LMS.

To ensure all health professionals are best prepared to contain the spread of coronavirus

Question: how do health care professionals in full body bio-hazard suits perform so many "hand hygiene" routines as recommended? In the concluding scenario, a nurse performs up to 200 hand sanitising and glove changing routines. Does this mean 1 health care professional will required 200 full body bio-hazard suits daily?

Question: We still don't know exactly how this coronavirus is transmitted between humans. Hand hygiene only cuts transmission by direct contact, which many suspect is a supplementary infection route. Virus transmission by aerosol seems to be far more important. Any free course on face hygiene and use of masks?

  • Hi alvian, thanks for your comment. We have an article about Coronavirus, you can check it out here: https://www.ausmed.com.au/cpd/articles/novel-coronavirus-out…
You're more than welcome to leave those questions in the review comment, and our Editorial Team should be able to answer them.

  • is it only available to health professionals? what proof of profession do you need?

    • Hi bargain huntress, thanks for your comment. This Mandatory Training Module is designed for health professionals, and can be claimed as CPD, but you do not require a qualification check to take this free course.
