I understand I'm in the minority, but I loved this game.

The story(well.. 99% of it) and atmosphere was fantastic.

The weapons allow for a level of creativity that makes the game quite engaging.

    Definitely recommended for $9

      As did I.
Not really a shooter as munitions are limited, but great if you like scavenging and upgrading.

      I don't think that's really a minority opinion.

    • I was under the impression this game was very well received by both critics and fans

    • +1

Agreed, I also loved the atmosphere, especially the sound effects

Platinum is a chore though since it requires numerous playthrough for anyone interested in the trophy

Yes it was a pretty tedious one.. The one where you need to kill absolutely everyone was a pain. And there were some other ending trophies that were annoying too.

    • This game ruined all other games for me. Everything I've played since has felt super linear and empty. Hopefully Cyberpunk 2077 will come to the rescue

      • You could try Deus Ex and Dishonored games if you haven't already.

While not quite an "immersive sim", Outer Wilds (not Worlds) is outstanding and I can't recommend it enough. The less you know about it the better.

Cyberpunk will be a safe bet though ;)

I understand I'm in the minority,

      Definitely not.

This is a thinking man's FPS/RPG hybrid, sort of like the first Deus Ex or System Shock 2, and definitely built upon the success of the Dishonored franchise, and there was always a devoted fan base to this game since it launched.

It didn't achieve mainstream, Triple-A sales success (around ~2.5 million units sold across all platforms; which is barely break-even territory) but the critical response was overwhelmingly positive everywhere you looked.

I just wished they dropped the Prey name and any reference to that IP as there is zero connection to the old, unrelated FPS of 2006 (aside from very, very loosely in the concept of battling aliens) that was developed and published by completely different companies.
It did discourage a lot of people from trying this game due to either resentment over the fact that Prey 2006 never received a proper sequel or opinions of the first game influencing misconceptions about Prey 2017.

In fact, Arkane stated explicitly that Prey 2017 is a spiritual successor to the System Shock series, and not only is that self-evident in the game play and story design, but it would have made a lot more sense to call this game System Shock 3 than Prey, if they were really lacking for a decent title and it might have helped market this game a lot better.

It's ridiculous how deathly-afraid game developers are of creating a new IP that they'd rather slap on the name of a completely-unrelated and incredibly disparate franchise onto their new title, to garner some brand recognition, rather than just come up with any old name.

It's really weird of Arkane Studios, considering how well the Dishonored series did.

Wouldn't surprise me if Bethesda just wanted to use the Prey name and made them use it.

They bought the rights back in '09 and it had been sitting there ever since.

But I agree, Arkane is a damn good studio and didn't deserve the low sales. I haven't played Prey but Dishonored was fan-bloody-tastic.

  • Sweet, got one. Cheers OP.

  • great game. Reminds me heaps of System Shock 1 and 2

  • Great game and well worth that price.
