    Good idea - I reckon there's untapped market out there for cheap 27" 1024x576 monitors - for gamers with old or integrated GPUs.

  The screen will still look great being that it's only 17 inches. Hell my 24" looks great at 1080p.

  its a nice deal, given comparative deals that I can see when skimming through staticice

  the only thing I dislike about these laptop adverts is that why do they mostly quote the turbo boosted speeds as if it is the standard speed, and then mention that it is quad core. That is very misleading, it will only reach the maximum 2.9GHz, when perhaps 2-3 cores are deactivated. the standard speed with all four cores running is 2.0GHz isn't it? I've seen it being done not only with this advert but many other previous adverts/bargains on ozbargain from other sellers too.

  apart from that its a good deal, though not very portable, i dislike lugging around my 17 inch laptop when needed every now and then, pretty heavy.

    I also dont like store putting the processor as 2.9. Its clock speed is 2.0 Ghz normal and 2.9 Ghz is its max turbo frequency.

  Nice deal but how many people actually need a $1k+ laptop nowadays? I mean I wouldn't spend over $600 for a laptop after seeing the recent $599 Thinkpad T520 deal.

  And just buy yourself a PS3 or Xbox360 if you really into games. Just my personal opinion though.

    See what your saying but console gaming (IMHO) is pretty different to PC gaming. As hard as I try to get in to console game I just keep coming back to a PC.

    Desktop replacements. Some people need a powerful pc for gaming/rendering at home and then a computer for work/uni.

    Although it might be uncomfortable carrying this laptop all day, its a compromise between performance and portability.

    No.

    This would probably be 10-15% faster at best. The main advantage of Gen II was the lower TDP and onboard graphics. You'll barely notice the difference unless you're running heavy programs or benchmarking.

  Remember when comparing this to other retailers that this unit comes with only one hdd - and that hdd is not a hybrid drive

  When I bought one of these with the Sandy Bridge Bug 6 months ago, it came with a full HD screen and 2 hybrid drives…

  The battery life blew and I took it back for a full refund thanks to Sandy Bridge…

  Also most Australian units come with backpack, mouse and headset - dont see this mentioned here which may mean it is a US model..
