I am looking to get that camera, but it's selling for like $2K at Teds, JBHiFi etc. It sells roughly for $1.2K if i were to get it from Hong Kong or so.

If you must buy locally, then I'd bargain with them first and then try the trade in.$100… i think most people would keep their old DSLRs at that price.. though on the other hand , this is a good deal for those PnS crowd who wants to try out DSLRs.
But to be honest, just walking into the shop and ask for $100 off a nearly 2k product is achievable , even without a promotion period.
Be cheeky & game when buying stuff… I have made some crazy offers for stuff i was genuinely wanting to buy and have got most of them. One was a printer on special reduced from $129 to $80… tongue in cheek i asked .. 2 for $80? After a few taps on his keyboard, "sure!"… Many other things too… ya just have to try.
They'll take anything - JB are just using it as an excuse. As above, do your research, bargain as low as you can, then ask for the trade in special

The trade in is a maketing gimick. You can get the $100 without it or go to the salvos and pick up a 'toy camera', aka a camera that doesn't work for $2
Planing to get 60D with the 15-135kit, too bad JB dun carry the 135kit. Camera phone = camera got few of those laying around.
go in and ask… they will build the kit for you
