    Great for the bedroom.

    Not kidding.

3D actually works on projector systems

    • +1

Indeed it does. So much better than on a TV.

      • Do they generally use polarised glasses like cinema or lcd switching glasses?

        • +1

No these use Bluetooth Shutter Glasses also known as 3D RF Glasses,
This is standardised so you can buy any BT RF 3D glass and it will work with any TV/Projector that supports it.

But to add to the conversation, the last few 3D TVs were actually Hella good! Super bright and crisp picture.
Definitely better than a lot of projectors. But each to their own. Size plays a big role in 3D

          • @OpayuOnam: Yeah I have a 2012 model panasonic 3d plasma. 3D works well but the refresh rate tends to give me a headache after a while. Polarised is better in this regard but generally lower resolution on the TVs at least.

            • @Gravy: Well, I have had experience with both polarised (a smaller size LG from 2012) and shutter glass (the last Panasonic 3D TV from 2018).
And I can safely say the shutter was the clear winner, maybe because it was a bigger TV (58inch vs 39inch) but the colours, clarity, pop out, and eye tiredness was all better on the Panasonic. IIRC the TV does 60hz, therefore 30hz per eye which is not too bad.

I've watched 3D on a DLP projector as well (with the same glasses used on the Panasonic TV) and the TV still had a much brighter and clearer picture. Though the projector had the advantage of size and therefore more wow factor.

Iv got this in the lounge 5.5 x 7.9 on a 120” screen the raplacement globes r only $55
    After 7000 hours

    • Do you use it for FTA TV at all? If so, what's it like?

  • +1

I use it for normal tv on a well lit room is Awsome

  • can i connect xbox and play games to it?

    • +2

      Certainly can.

    • It is an excellent projector for gaming. LCD. Very minimal input lag.

I have this projector. The quality is really good (for 1080p). My only gripe are the black levels. Dark scenes aren't that great. Its a problem if you are super picky or spoiled by an OLED. Other than that its excellent. It has Bluetooth built in to connect to Bluetooth speakers or headphones. Add a Chromecast to it and it will cover most of your needs. I paid about $950 for it so this is a good price. If you're willing to pay more the Benq 4k projectors look awesome.

    • +1

Black levels certainly aren’t great, but at this price can’t expect too much. Some improvement in perceived contrast can be achieved with the right screen. This grey screen from Silver Ticket has worked really well for me. Having a proper black border around the screen also helps improve perceived contrast.

      • I have my projector wall painted in dulux timeless gray, helps with black levels a lot

    • +3

Does the projector itself make much noise? My problem with my current is that it makes a high pitch ring that I am young enough to hear.

  • I bought this about a year ago for approx $900. Been quite happy with the quality overall. I did have mine replaced under warranty though (some kind of burning smell started coming out from the unit) and was a bit of a hassle having to take it to the nearest authorised Epson Center (which was 40mins away). Then wait for 3 weeks for them to approve the replacement and go back to the same center to pick it up. Other than that, all good.

  • This or the new short throw Optoma GT1080HDR.

It's almost double in price though, but would this be comparable still?

    • +2

I got this one off amazon for around the same price.
      https://www.justprojectors.com.au/optgt1080.htm

      Would rate it highly.

      • Cheers.. Was that delivered from Australia or US?

I can see some cheaper options that I can get through Amazon US sellers, but sceptical due to warranty and all.

        Thanks!

        • +1

it's all US sellers but I've had a good experience regarding amazon US returns, they just give me a return label and I get a new one sent same day (2 weeksish for delivery).

I always found the BenQ models in the same price range to be superior to the Epson's. Haven't seen this model though.

    • BenQ projectors are good value, but DLP means some people will see the rainbow effect. This Epson model is great value for a rainbow-free projector.

      • I think you get used to it after a while and its not as prominent. I know i did with mine.

  • +1

    Good price, good product.
I bought this last year, cost me $850.

  • +3

    I would get a 4k for a little more.

    Not True.

Haa….i meant 1st decent deal. Have been the beneficiary for long time from this community. Glad to have contributed. I take your point though…

Seems all units gone. Unless more stock is added.

  • Only 2 available

  • Have one of these. It's very good. Very bright. Colours are brilliant, much better than similar
priced DLP offerings. Black levels are average, didn't expect much for the price. Fan can be loud if not in Eco mode, but the eco mode is bright enough.

I used to have one of these. They're the best budget projector you'll find brand new under $1500.

Movies, TV, it'll be good to very good at everything. Also very, very for gaming. Low input lag. High brightness. Works great in quiet Eco mode for 90% of applications. LCD so you never have to worry about the rainbow effect (I'm one of the small percentage unfortunately). Cheap globes.

The only big downside is the black levels. Don't install this in a treated room. It's still very acceptable though.

The only minor downside is installation. It has very minimal lens adjustment. Do NOT use software adjustment. Just don't. Spend the time, get a mate to help, install your screen FIRST then make sure the projector lens is positioned and installed exactly opposite the centre of the screen.

    • Are you sure you had the 5600 and not the 5300? The 5600 has lens shift, I found it quite flexible and easy to install.

edit I just realised you probably meant horizontal adjustment. I can't comment on that as I already had a mount installed in the center from a previous projector. It has vertical lens shift though.

      • Yes 5600, and yes I was referring to lack of any horizontal lens shift. If the lens isn't dead centre with the centre of the screen then you'll have a weird trapezoid shaped image to fight to get straight and square edges. Using the software on the projector to shift the image digitally incurs very, very noticeable drop in image quality.

  • Anybody got this price matched with another merchant ?

If you are on a tight budget and want to improve contrast dramatically try making a fixed frame screen from these items.

https://www.bunnings.com.au/windoware-120-x-210cm-charm-bloc… (you can get a bigger version of this if you want to make a biggest screen obviously) use the reverse side of the blind to project onto.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/moroday-40mm-x-10m-felt-scratch-…

Make a frame in desired aspect ratio and staple blind material to it, then adhere felt to outside perimeter.

I have a grey pull down projector screen which works great but wanted to make something similar to it in fixed frame format. The above combo works very well and makes a noticeable difference over a white screen for very little investment. Obviously works its best in a darker environment if possible.

I use an Epson EB-U32 and with this combo it goes from fairly washed out/bad blacks to very, very watchable.

  • these guys only price match actual stores not ebay

  • Anyone recommend Ceiling mount to go with this. does that need to branded or generic one like this should do?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/i/162502926913?_trkparms=https%3A%2F…

    • Any generic mount will do as long as it drops down far enough for your throw distance and screen size/placement.

      • the place to mount is already there when we purchased the place. I can always jump on the chair to test out the approx height before ordering the mount. Ideally something that can drop off the ceiling with flexibility of appropriate tilting would do I guess….

    • +1

It's light and small so practically any ceiling mount will work. It has decent vertical lens shift so distance from the ceiling isn't really an issue unless you have very tall ceilings.

Just keep in mind cheap crappy mounts tend to "drift" over time. Meaning you have to get every screw/bolt super duper tight but you'll still have to jump up there once every couple of months to re-position it back.

This is a pretty decent budget one. Free shipping. Great store.

      • That one doesn't appear to have an extension and it is most likely going to be too short as is unless the screen is touching the ceiling.

          • @s0805: I have that one. No problem so far (2 years).

        • It's not too short. I used it on my old projector. It has vertical lens shift and the image is cast downwards when installed upside down.

https://imgur.com/a/WAbHN8F - straight from the manual.

You don't need an extension or long ceiling mount for this particular projector. Unless you have a tiny screen under 90" (why bother with a projector then?) then you'll never face the issue of the screen being too "high" on the wall.

  • Just spoke to the owner, Back in stock guys
    Purchased one just now ,

Can anyone please recommend the cables i need after mounting and the links please
Also how do i get all the apps like netflix , amazon prime on the screen ?

    • +1

Just connect a Chromecast to the projector directly and cast to it

      • Which Chromecast model do you recommend ?

I already have an Yamaha Atmos Receiver & Bose Acoustimass Speakers

        • Get the Chromecast 3. Don't bother with the older models.

      • +2

I run it through an AVR first - so that there is decent sound quality. The internal speakers in the projector are pretty ordinary.

    • " This item is out of stock. " again

    • I have this projector for more a year and also owned the TWH5300 previously. Excellent projector for the price.

I have thrown a 15m hdmi cable through the attic from projector to my smart bluray home theatre to its HDMI ouput slot. I have then connected Freeview TV set top box, Chromecast, Raspberry Pi using a HDMI switcher and connect that to my home bluray HDMI input. Using this setup I can have the theatre sound and watch anything I want. Throw netflix, amazon video and other streaming apps to chromecast.

I have a 120 inch fixed Frame screen with velvet borders and it does enhance the viewing experience. If you buying the projector, I think investing few hundred dollars in screen is essential.

      • that's pretty much what I am thinking to do with mine when it arrives. Question for you

        1) running video from projector through theater system, and audio from theater system directly, could there be a lag. As i was thinking we can run audio from projector as well to theater system but that would be loop

        2) also in my case, we have lost remote for theater system, I think with projector it allows something called 'HDMI link setup' through which we can manage volumes, chapters using projector remote. Have you used that.

        3) Using HDMI switcher sounds better, as i was wondering how to run local TV on this. Don't know much about this, what to look for in buying switcher?

        cheers
