Maybe some of us can't afford everything new when they come out

      • +1

Plus this is a pretty powerful console anyway.

Someone like myself who still has an original Xbox might as well just wait for the next gen, waited this long lol.

        • Yup agreed… I wouldn't call it crazy as original poster mentions, but these will drop even further Closer we get to launch of new console… so at worst you'll save some money even if you choose to not go new at time of release :)

    • I'll be very surprised if the new consoles fall under $700 when they drop.

    • The XBOX One launched for $599, the X for $649, so if you believe the most likely $200+ difference between this and the new Series X is a 'little' more than all the power to you!

      • Series X could very well be double this deal price.

    • [moved]

    • Not necessarily. I bought the X bundle (inc Jedi Fallen Order and some EA access and Game Pass Ultimate) from Microsoft for slightly cheaper. My thought process was as follows.

      1. I needed a 4K player for a recently refurbed media room.
      2. I'm subbed to Game Pass Ultimate for a few more years (the $1 deal) and my S is starting to tire.
      3. Series X won't have exclusives for at least 12 months after launch i.e. all games will work on X/S for a while at least.
      4. My Pile of Shame is still massive so don't need to jump on next gen straight away.
      5. Getting ~$200 off RRP is a decent discount.
      • not only that when you do upgrade it would be cheaper anyway a year or 2 after launch the price would drop.

    • Buying a new console at launch is crazy. The initial price expensive af and that's for the first revision of the console which means it's probably the worst from a hardware and aesthetic perspective. Eg PS4 to its slim. Every console improves itself significantly and at a lower cost than launch.

Apart from the hardware, the launch titles are fairly weak. PS4 which has sold the most consoles in the last generation didn't have that great of a library in the first year and it was mainly filled with Remastered editions.

Would argue that end of the console cycle is probably the best time to buy as consoles and games are super affordable at this stage with a massive library and sales to push away older games. Buying at launch or within the first year will be expensive

      • If the PS5 can play PS4 games but with better graphics and lower loading times, I'd be tempted to get it right away to replay those exclusives.

    • "a little more".

Ahuh…. keep dreamin. The x will soon be $400 or just a tad over. Their new console won't be anywhere near that.

  • Price comes down to $419.82 if you can take advantage of discounted Amazon gift cards (via Suncorp) plus get the ShopBack discount. Not bad… 🤔

    • Suncorp is 3% discount. How do you get it for such a price?

      • +2

Cost of Xbox with Suncorp discount is $435.53.

ShopBack is 3.5% cash back (if I’m not mistaken) on the full $449 total, so $15.71 or $15.72 depending on how they round it.

        So $435.53 - ShopBack cash back of $15.71 = $419.82.

For people making a decision about this, Microsoft has stated “As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games, sort of like PC, will play up and down that family of devices,” “We want to make sure that if someone invests in Xbox between now and [Series X] that they feel that they made a good investment and that we’re committed to them with content.”

    • +2

Also is worth noting that controllers will work up and down devices as well (At least Xbox one controllers will work on Xbox X and vice versa) so if you are making a decision based on accessories that info might help.

  • Even without a 4k TV, still love the better graphics and 60fps in games.

Remember that in a lot of games you get 4k or higher frame rates or better textures, but not all at the same time. Tomb raider and hitman are good examples of this and I alway pick smoother frame rates over resolution

Upgraded from the OG and also nice having a smaller console with no giant external power brick

  • Would this be a good companion to a LG C9? Mainly looking for a 4K Bluray player and since I already own a PS4 was wondering if this would be worth it

    • +1

Using my XBox One X as a media player irritates me, the apps they offer are just bad, moving forward or backward in the movie, or trying to access a point is just difficult compared to dedicated 4K players. Maybe it would be better with a Media Remote Control but I just use the Gamepad.
