Can you opt for a can of the full sugar cola instead?

    • +2

I don’t think so, I favoured full sugar cola over Pepsi Max however they still gave me Pepsi Max :(

  • I really wish more companies would opt for a middle ground.

We KNOW too much sugar isn't great for us.
and we SUSPECT that artificial sweeteners have a nefarious side.

Why can't we just have less of both, rather than having to entirely one way or the other?

I was sad when CokeLife went away

I don't think it fits the logic of most people.

      In my experience:

Most people that would have a coke with 15g of sugar would have one with 35g of sugar.

On the other hand, most people who don't drink/eat a lot of sugar would consider 15g of sugar to be way too high, even 5g is pushing it.

Something in the middle still doesn't taste like full sugar coke.

      • Yeah you're probably right.
I'm not anti sugar, I'm just not inclined to have so much.
I'm also not anti sweetener, however some of those new late 2019 studies out of the UK universities are interesting.

I'll stick to mixing my own when I do. All good :)

    • It's not just artificial sweeteners, most of the commonly used natural ones are also bad to varying degrees. But there needs to be a lot more research into this. There's bound to be a sugar substitute out there that isn't harmful. Monk fruit is looking promising at the moment but there's still not enough research on it.

Btw there are some that have half-half now, like the new Rockstar raspberry one. But IMO if the choice is between acelsulfame-k and sugar, sugar is the lesser evil.

Who is this 'we' you refer to..

      • +1

Because I feel this is a loaded question, I'll advise you to ask google, there will be results whichever way you feel you wish to lean.
'we' can be as narrow or broad as you desire.

        • +2

Yeah, but the 'artficial sweeteners are bad' are very much in the minority when it comes to actual scientific studies with reproducible and peer reviewed results

If the stuff was dangerous, and actually had a significant impact to cause cancer or Alzheimers or hair loss or whatever else, it would be overwhelmingly proven from the massive amounts of studies that have been done on artificial sweeteners…and it's not.

So yeah, not one of the 'we' ;)

          • @SBOB: Gotta admit, those 2019 studies are interesting though.

            https://scialert.net/fulltext/?doi=ijzr.2019.21.27

Probably harmless, but can't just blatantly state things yet; we know more about the body than we did when we invented this additive, so always an open mind.

          • @SBOB: Literally 1000's of studies that say it's fine.

            • @KLoNe: Of course, and it likely is. But december 2019 is the most recent, and its asked a whole bunch of new uncertainties.

              We dont know everything yet.

              • @MasterScythe: I've read (reputable source, not FB, etc) that if sugar was scrutinised the same way that artifical sweeteners are it never would have been accepted by the FDA. Sugar gets in on the 'been using it for years' loophole.

    • I mix my own sometimes, especially at post mix machines. 50% full sugar and 50% no sugar coke.

  • For those who think young.

Garden City, Brisbane is 3-9 Feb. Not there now!
Did the test there in November - preferred the Coke.

Oh Thanks, I’ll remove the bold and write Upcoming next to it :)

        EDIT: Fixed OP.

  • Just did the Taste Test at Flinders… Favoured the Coke (probably cos it tasted slightly more sweeter than the Pepsi Max).. .
