Read these are pretty useless for smog

  • +4

    Only $ 7.5

You can't use "only", as per title guidelines.

    • -1

sorry mate, I use 'only' because of $7.5 include free shipping

  • +1

Those don't look like tight fit? Can you show a person wearing these?

    • I could not show you in person. But I can tell how do I feel the product. I feel fit for me. But I could not wear it the whole day long, feel too hot, only wear when my nose feels uncomfortable. But I do love the kid-size one because it fits my 10-year-old cousin and 6-year-old nephew who has asthma also hates wearing a mask. But definitely not recommend on the worse day, I go with PM3 with a filter or Make kids stay inside

Please don't buy this garbage. It's not a respirator, it's not made to any standards (or at least any that mean anything), best protection buy an actual half mask with a P2 filter That is certified to ASNZS 1716:2012

    • +4

Correct. Needs to be P2 (European/Australian) or N95 (USA) standard - I understand them to be fairly similar. Most of the decent ones will have a valve to help with air flow.

      • Yeah true P2 or N95 masks are very uncomfortable without valve.

    • -6

‘it's not made to any standards’, I don't know what I can say, not try to make war. Whatever if you don't like it, just don't buy it

      • Doesn't unicharm provide certification results for this mask it claims is PM2.5? I can't read Japanese so cannot get very far along that road. But the mask claims to filter 99% of particles > 2.5 micrometers.

        • Problem is, even if the material is an effective filter, if the mask can't get an effective seal air will take the path of least resistance around the filter rather than through it. It'd have to be a test on a head model, not just a filter material test.

        • eBay is full of masks claiming to be P2, PM2.5 or N95, while also being washable or suitable for children.
Bottom line is that 1) the most you can expect from a washable mask is a carbon filter to remove the smoke smell while doing nothing for the dangerous particles
          2) there are no approved child sized filters like this. There are a many brands marketed in Asia, but in the tests I've seen, not a single one of them made a measurable difference to PM2.5

OP, I'm not negging you, because someone may want to buy then if they want an excuse to be complacent, while not actually doing anything to protect their kid's health

          • @CacheHunter: I appreciate your comment. I personally use it too, so far it works for me. But also buy some masks from eBay PM3 with a filter, they're pretty good. Personally don't like washable one, because I always forget to wash it

  • Looks like those useless surgeon masks people wear that dont even seal around the nose. Whats the point of a filter if the dirty air is just bypassing it…

    • +4

Indeed. The purpose of the surgeons mask is to prevent the surgeon passing pathogens to the patient, not the other way around.

    • -1

Sorry mate, the masks are sold in Japan, it designs for people daily wear for anti-pollution such flu, dust, pollen. Maybe it reminds you surgeon mask, but I do believe Japanese hospital they do have a standard mask for the hospital.

      • +1

There is absolutely nothing in your reply that refutes my statement. That you can buy products and claims are made for them is not evidence of the claims, especially baselesss and unsupportable claims such as you made - then rapidly backed away from when called on them.

        Quack.

  • Thanks, good deal. Got a set.

  • P2, N95 or N98 masks only, this is useless for those looking for protection from the bushfire smoke

    • +1

But they didn't claim it was for preventing bushfire smoke though

      • +2

But they have claimed that these masks stop PM2.5. I haven't tested this specific brand personally. However, every test of a similar mask claiming to protect the wearer from PM2.5 that I'm aware of has found that this style of mask is no more effective at stopping PM2.5 than a soggy lettuce leaf.

  • -1

I like the ops attitude, reminds me of myself

  • +3

you have a lot of nerve to come on here and take advantage of people's anxiety this way, "mate".

  • If your looking for something for current bushfire conditions look elsewhere. This style of mask is not suitable for bushfire smoke as it doesn't seal, and considering the current conditions and the fact they are marketing these as removing PM2.5 it seems to be they are marketing this to people ignorant of this fact.

  • +1

prevents viruses, pollen invasion, dust, etc.

Negging simply based on the fact that this will NOT block pollen, dust, 'invasions' (what ever that means), or smoke effectively because it is not P2 certified and does not fit tightly on your face to create a seal where the particles can still enter your airways.

Shame on you for trying to make a quick profit at the expensive of peoples health.

  • These will do nothing to prevent inhalation or smoke.
    Shame on you OP.
