I fell on the ozb fanwagon recently and got the 660 (for $159) which is the "large" one and not that impressed. Thought it was small and barely feel anything in my living room The 533 is considered the "small" one so probably only practical in a studio apartment or bedroom

You won't notice a dramatic difference compared to a traditional fan. A similar affect of an air circulator would be having two fans being centered in a room blowing towards a midpoint.

Personally feel it's way overpriced for what it is.

    • @eyzonme, That's disappointing. I have been looking for a bargain on the Vornado for a while. I want one to blast me with air while exercising on a Bicycle smart trainer. The fan would be placed within 2 metres of me.

I read they were quiet and generated a strong air flow. Are they quiet, and do you think it would be ok for my needs?

      • +6

They aren't quiet at all. They are very strong, and as an example, I bought a basic $20 fan from Bunnings: I would rate it's air pushing power 1/10 what my vornado can do. Also the vornado somehow moves air much much further, in a very narrow target.

        I have the 660.

Quiet seems to be very subjective, I've read reviews saying its quiet while others have complained about the noise. Personally I think the noise is reasonable. That said, I was on the fence about getting one until I tested it in person at a Harvey Norman (I think it's worth checking it out at a bricks and mortar store).

It does take a bit of trial and error to find the best placement. I've found generally pointing it at the opposite ceiling corner gets a constant light breeze on that side of the room.

What the heck, purchased. This is the cheapest I have seen, thx OP. BTW, for anyone else on the fence, Amazon now says only one left in stock.

    • You're sounds very broken if it's like a normal pedestal fan.

      Thanks for your review

I have the 660 and Xiaomi 2S fan.
The 660 pushes far more air on low than the Xiaomi does on high.

I put the aircon on and the fan, it cool the room much quicker and I can turn the aircon off and it'll keep the area cool. The xiaomi doesn't really do this
There are placement guides online for anyone else looking it to these.. as you face them at a wall, which seems odd at first.

      • How dare you malign Xiaomi on OzBargain. The secret police (fanbois) have been informed…

        :P

        • You mean mainlander trash

    • i have to agree, vornados are over priced. I had a look at the 660 and wasn't impressed. For a lower price (for 660) i bought the industrial CAT high velocity drum air circulator at costco for around $125. That has some serious air flow the 660 is not even close to matching. Some may not like the look or the style of the CAT fan, and it may be loudish, but from a functional perspective it wins out for me.

      • +2

For many I would guess the Vornado is louder than they imagine, having an industrial work fan going would not be an option.

had one for 3-4years still runs like it did on day 1 it's great. we swear by it and always recommend it. on low it makes next to no sound. makes a noticable difference in the ambient temperature in the room.

if we ever needed a new fan we'd 100% get a vornado

    • makes a noticable difference in the ambient temperature in the room

There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY that it reduces temperatures, so what you are saying is that you can actually notice the extra heat from the power that it consumes?

      • It can distribute the hot and cold air in the room to even out the temperature so it sort of can. But I get what you're saying.

  • We still use a $24.00 pedestal fan I bought 15 years ago. It's awesome. I gave it a good cleanup and now when it's not in use I slip a garbage bag over it. We haven't used the air con during summer yet, ever. It has three speeds and we mostly use it on one (the slowest). It's quiet, although as already stated, that's subjective. I don't find myself turning the television up or anything like that though. The running cost is negligible, as is the energy used.

    • You can get an idea of how powerful the vornado is, buy comparing your pedestal fan to someone blowing air on you, that's the difference in air movement.

After owning the Xiaomi I can tell how much difference and better than those cheap pedestal fan.

        • Yep, spend a little more to get a different motor/fan and you will notice a huge upgrade. No clue what these people are talking about comparing to cheapo fans they bought from bigw or bunnings.

          • @onlinepred: Yeah, when we said quiet we mean we couldn't hear it running at all XD

It's quiet, although as already stated, that's subjective.

  • Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 months.

thanks op, got one… this was one of those deals you see something you don't really need, then you remember your shitty fan at home and you just buy it… Amazon had a $10 voucher for some reason + 12% cashback… nice price!

    • i think it's only 7% cashrewards or 8% shopback as it's classified as "Home"

    • Dang I didn't know of any Amazon $10 voucher? But yeah I can confirm it's not 12% cashback, it's around 7%.

      • oh ok, my mistake, the amazon voucher must been targeted to my account, it was there already.

        • If the $10 was promotional credit (not a gift voucher) then cashback will not be eligible for your purchase. Just an FYI

  • Should I get this or https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/xiaomi-smartmi-dc-conversion-pe… for the January summer? Will be for Bedroom only.

    I got the 660 for $130 with ShopBack’s 20% cashback on amazon.
I was skeptic so at first but the amount of air it moves around a couple of rooms (open space house) is incredible.
Or at night, there’s a light breeze behind you and not one to dry your eyes out from face on fan.

At $160 or retail I wouldn’t. But at a good decent sale price, I’ll be grabbing another. Because I am constantly moving it up and down the stairs.

I have a 660 and a 633dc and the 633dc is definitely quieter on low,I can use it all night and sleep through as opposed to the 660.
I could imagine the 533dc to be similar ,
Currently the 633dc is 149 on Amazon for those interested.

    • Yeah, mine just arrived this afternoon - even though the website indicated that it would arrive between Feb and Mar. So far, I’m on the fence with the 633DC as it doesn’t seem better than my $15 Kmart fan but time would tell.

    • .
Thanks dustint for that news I already had the 533dc but now ordered the 633dc as $149 is a good price (for the quality)

  • Got one, they're terrible, lowest 2 settings barely make a breeze, highest setting is way too loud, since purchased a DC motor fan, similar price, 2 in fact, far superior, better output, remote control and so much quieter.

    Don't waste your money. Seriously

    • which fan did you end up getting?

      • One Kogan, one kambrook, both excellent. Recommended them.

        • One Kogan, one kambrook

The ones which were essentialy the same? About 6 different modes - quiet, natural, normal, etc - and could go right down to barely seeming like it was running? I got the kogan version a while ago, before they stealth changed to a different product using the same model ID. I might get the Kambrook, depending on how this summer goes (not a whole lot of consecutive hot days & nights so far).

  • for the ones wondering, I did a quick power consumption test at home and at full blast it's about 40w… pretty much the same as the cheap kmart one I had laying around there in the second setting… it goes up by a tiny bit when I put on the 3rd and fastest option something like an extra 7w.. kinda disappointing but still a nice and small fan.

    • Saw you comment and decided I should do some power consumption tests on mine.
I have the 633DC not the 533DC. Using the highest setting (0 degrees, dial all the way to the right) and lowest just before it clicks off (roughly 240 degrees, dial to the left and pointing down). Think of a protractor with right side of the x-axis as 0.

      Lowest setting: 2.4w
      Pointing left (180): 2.7w
      Top left (120): 4.1w
      Vertical (90): 7.7w
Top Right (45): fluctuates between 21.4 to 21.6w
Highest setting: fluctuates between 39.7 to 39.9w

I find the vertical mark and beyond, too loud to leave it there. I normally leave mine at around the 120 degree mark.
