Can you get the mobile at this price without joining a postpaid plan? If you cannot then you must include the price of a plan in your post.

    • I 100% agree, this post is all over the place but it’s def not a deal. You need to look at overall cost, being stuck on $39 a month for 10 gb for 3 years is crap. I cbf doing the math but on the top of my head getting the boost prepaid $150 for 3 yrs and buying the phone outright after haggling ( or not) will be much cheaper

      • Well $29 x 26 = $1044 that's just for the device!

To me it only makes sense if you were writing the device off monthly as a tax deduction or work was paying for it. (Work pays $60/mth for my phone plan, which includes the phone)

  • That's what I'm looking too… Would prefer that but don't think so…

$78 per month. Wheres the deal here?

    • +2

interested to see where else you could get a Note 10+ and plan for less than $68/m for 3 or $82.50 for 2…the floor is yours.

      • Is prepaid churning allowed? I'm not sure how cheap the phone has been found but Kogan currently has it at $1199.

        • Kogan prepaid $334 for 1 year, 40gb/m
1199 for note 10+ from kogan aswell

          Total $2201 for 3 years 40gb

          Vs

          $2448 for this with 10gb

          /Mic drop

          • @krisspy: Is the Note 10+ from Kogan a grey import? If so, then thats another factor to consider (ie 1 yr Kogan warranty vs 2 yrs AU warranty and can walk into an Optus store to help get issues sorted).

            • +1

@Trishool: $1349 from mobile citi ebay (without any ebay discount) or ~$1100 from Samsung gov program.

Still ends up cheaper without being locked for 3 years with peasant levels of data.

        • +1

          that's a S10 Plus.

  • Well just comparing the note ten plus price with different telcos… It's cheapest one on case someone looking to get one on plan…

  • It could go down to$76 per month of need no international calls and roaming

I'm currently paying Optus $30 per month for 15GB and Optus Sport included. You reckon they will add this phone on top of that package without adjusting my plan price?

Edit/ Just tried and failed. They were happy to do this until they saw my plan.

These new Optus plans really suck. I will be switching over to Telstra with their next deal of either $500 gift card or $99 phone with 12 month contract

    • Agree. I just came off a 2 year contract with the iPhone 8+ and didn’t see value in upgrading to new phone for $99 and on a long term contract with their current plans.

  • +7

Everyone trying to get you sing on for 36 months now which really sucks.

Optus I think has abandon their super deal strategy. My S10 512 on a 200G paln only cost 105 a month and this time round is $20 more and I only get 120GB.

At this price level Optus give customer o incentive to sign on. People should wait for another HN GG or JB Telstra deal.

    • Do you really use 200gb per month on a phone? With free music streaming, free Optus sport streaming and free Netflix streaming I'm lucky to use 7gb at most.

      • It could be his internet for work/home too via tethering.
It's handy if your on an internet plan with a data cap and want to download a game off Steam.

        • True, I have a mate who uses his for home internet access as there are no ports available on the local exchange.

    • I hope Optus bring the plan back

Since they changed their plans in Nov Optus are terrible value now. Telstra went from being super expensive to OK in June and Optus go from being good value to the same as Telstra in November. They're going to start losing huge swaths of customer to Telstra.

The only good thing left is the data sharing because I have 480gb across 3 services and one is in a 4g modem that I mesh route across my house for a constant 80mb per second. I use more than half per month on Netflix 4k.

  • how do get this price? i am getting $128.5/month for 24mth contract

edit: seems i am getting different price on my mobile browser

Optus mobile network has gone down the drain.

Based on my experience when travelling from Western Sydney to Sydney CBD, my mobile coverage completely drops off at least two times. This includes calls from mobile.

Even it does not drop, it won't play video or online music because of buffering.

    Buyer beware.

    • I was with virgin which is on the optus network and my commute to the cbd. I completely lose signal at least twice.

Ever since moving to telatra. Has stopped happening.

  • I think OP forgot to factor in the price of the plan on top of the phone cost over 24 months. Lol. It's $43.5 just for the phone over 24 months and then you add a phone plan(which has no contract). The price for the phone is only valid if you stay connected for 24 months. If you cancel, it's $1620. Definitely not a deal.

God, I remember getting the original Galaxy Note from Optus for $59 a month back in 2011. Crazy how bad plans have gotten since then…

    • +1

      Compare the phones RRP.

Once they started going over $1k plans have become obselete imo. Far better off buying outright.

    • Had a Note 4 on Vodafone and paid $57/ 24months in 2014.

  • this ain't no deal

  • Funny. I just bought this last year for $1180 (Officeworks, no EPP), and am using a $15 Aldi post-paid.

Avoid phone contracts at all costs. No value there.

    • +1

Lucky you. Many people can't afford to pay upfront.

That may be cheaper overall, but it's a completely different scenario. I don't think the OPs post is a good deal, but yours is not comparable in the slightest.

      • Fair

  • +1

even with the usual 2 year contract, $43.5per month (device) + $39per month (Small Optus Choice Plan) = $82.5 per month
    Where is the deal ?

  • +6

Paying almost $70 a month for three years and only a pitiful 10GB data per month is not a bargain.

Say no to 36 month contracts

  • Definately not a deal… But I wonder how much a premium phone should cost now a days…. If to get out from a telco…

    • +2

      Yet, you up voted.

    • +1

      “Definately[sic] not a deal”

      So why post it then?

  • Is the deal in this post or the next one

  • +2

I tried to get the phone on my SIM plan and failed too, I have 80gb for $40 SIM only and they wanted me to get a 60GB plan for 36 months, no way..specially since maybe 3 years from now you r gonna have an outdated phone and outdated plan, I was stuck wuth a 7GB! plan for 24 months just because I got a S8+ phone. Just save and get the phone from a store or wait for deals, they are everywhere specially since S11 is coming out this year.

  • -2

Will this phone even last 36 months? I do not think so. Bad deal.

    • If you don't damage it…

    • Why wouldn't it?

    • Flagship phones with big batteries usually last a while.

I personally would never entertain the idea of a 36month plan though.

      • I would at the right price and enough data. 10GB wasnt enough for me 4 years ago (when I was with Vodafone on a 22GB month plan).

  • +3

$39 for 10gig for 36 months is nowhere near a good deal at all! That's just blatant ripping customers off $10 for 1gig afterwards.

  • +1

This actually worked out to be a really bad deal, so $29/month for the headset and then 36months plan on top.

  • +1

Tip: if you are with OPTUS already, you can bring this plan down by $10by escalating and threatening them to break the current contract.

  • 'Min. cost $1,620.00, plus your chosen plan fees if you cancel early. Save $576.00 off device payments if you stay connected for 36 months'

I dont know how that makes sense, are they suggesting the phone costs $1620 PLUS $576?

    That's wishful…

    • No, if you break the contract, you pay $1620, otherwise it's $1044 (a saving of $576) over 24/36 months.

  • I see a lot of downvotes here but like someone mentioned above, this is great when work pays for it. Especially where only one bill per month is allowed like mine. The 36m device plan is great if you have a certain cover threshold too.

  • +1

Better off buying the 1 year post paid from kogan then buying the phone outright

  • $43.5/mth for phone plus $39/mth for plan = $1980 over 24 months with 10GB of data.

Buying the device from a deal like this one and getting the Boost $300 SIM from a deal like this one = total cost of $1431 with no fixed commitment.
