Literally fell for the same trap….
What a rollercoaster of emotions I took then
Just bought one, needed a mouse pad for my PC at one of our sites. Win.
You can get aluminum ones for $12 on ebay. Haven't replaced mine since I bought one 11 years ago and they work better than cloth mouse pads (imo). Also if you believe the science, average computer desk has more germs than surface of a toilet seat. Cloth traps all those germs. With aluminum, I can wipe it down regularly. Cloth version needs to be washed.
Link to $12 aluminium mouse pad please
Go on eBay and type in "aluminium mouse pad" then set the filter to $0 - $12.
@wikiwiki: It’s a gimmick. Selling point is that you can easily clean it, but as a mouse pad it’s worse than average - definitely avoid for gaming!
I have a cloth one that covers most of my desk and I just put it in the wash. I prefer the feel of it over alu.
Thanks OP. Got 2 price matched and beaten at OW.
where's NM computing catalogue?
Anyway to check local stock without going in?
Try asking online chat or calling :)
What is the purpose of a mouse pad? I thought they became redundant with the introduction of optical tracking mice.
They “feel” a lot nicer to use the mouse on, particularly when doing high precision stuff like gaming. Feel is obviously subjective though. (Using your mouse on aluminium sounds horrid).
Also a lot of optical mice won’t work on glass or glass topped desks. Need a mat for those. I have a small one specifically for travelling and the inevitable “fancy” hotel desk that the mouse won’t work on. There are some optical mice that work on glass though.
Officeworks Pitt Street Sydney honoured price match after some sweet talking, click & collect as there wasn't any in stock, there is stock in Glebe which the worker mentioned.
They were a little reluctant because the mouse wasn't showing online on HN, I mentioned it's in-store only and after chatting to a team mate they said "just do it, it's only 14 bucks" so I grabbed 2, one for a friend :)
Gaming Mouse $9 … :D ! …..no wait…Gaming Mouse PAD $9 …. :(
