Why do they have to wear their uniform ?

    • So they can get free food.

      • +6

What about the ones that work undercover?

    • +9

I guess they are not aware that Aust defence force advises their personnel not to wear their uniforms to and from work and on public transport for safety reason?

      • +2

Either that, or Betty is deliberately trying to put them in danger.

      • +4

Not to mention policies that say that you can't accept free stuff.

        • Not calling BS at all. But I had friends in services explain it a few times, and it all aligned & made sense to me. Granted, that was a decade ago. I'd be curious to see the wording. Public information, I would think.

Basically, a gift is just that. No freebie for favour.

So when we bought tickets at village cinemas, they'd show their badge & wrote details in a book. Free ticket. Meant to be a day they're working, no uniform required.

If they turn up to a store that's been broken into, and a gift is offered, no good. Thief caught, case closed, gift isn't a problem then.

          No alcohol, gambling gifts/favours etc

        • Can confirm public servants cannot accept gifts even a small one like a chocolate.

      • What's dangerous about wearing it outside of work?

        • +1

Targeted attacked. Happened to an English soldier.

          • @anastasiastarz: Very unlikely it will happen here. I served for 11 years. Usually there's no time to get change after work to do shopping or admin, so I went in uniform. Got nothing but smiles and waves from the public. I got out 4 years ago, maybe the views on military personnel has changed in recent times. But in my experience, I felt no danger.

            • @D3NI3D: I saw a member of the Aust defence force wearing his uniform meeting family at a train station. Didn't seem that he was restricted by the so called policy

              • @PAOK11: It is not a policy, it is an advise therefore not mandatory.

  • Glen or Mount Waverley?

      • (profanity) you're weird haha

    • Glen, just fixed.

  • +3

    Riiiiiight…

So despite much internal policy existing regarding the taking of free food, wearing of uniforms not to mention wait times (the likelihood of getting a hot job right now is incredibly high) they expect this promotion to be a success? Donate? FINE!

But this seems to be a bit of a pissing contest in regards to giving away food.

    • +14

      It's just a publicity stunt.

      • No shit Sherlock (Or jv in this case)

        • He's not a detective. Don't give him ideas. He's not entitled to the free food.

        • No JV, Sherlock??

    • +1

Not to mention isn't Glen Waverly a bit far from any of the fire front action anyway?
Ah well their loss I guess if they're giving out free food for what I think won't be a useful publicity stunt.

  • +1

I wonder if I can get free with my nurse uniform*

    • +6

Post a pic and we'll let you know…

  • +5

I read "uninformed" servicemen and women at first glance.

    • -2

      It specifically says:

      and Women from Betty's Burgers

      are eligible…

    • Same. I wonder what the percentage is

    • I did the same. And wasn't surprised jv was the first to comment.

  • +5

are donating a portion of every delicious burger

A monetary donation might be better received.

    • I know right. At least donate the entire burger and not just a portion of it.

  • +4

Would be a better deal if emergency services workers could get it off duty e.g. show their badge/ID.. but a nice gesture

    • +2

Agree. I doubt if anyone would like to be seen in uniform to get free food. Plus, it is unsafe wearing uniform in public Most services would have protocols against it. Free food for a whole month plus donations is a big gesture.

      • +4

Surely they're allowed to stop by for lunch in uniform? There's a takeaway spot near my old college that they frequent.

        • Only when they are on duty. This offer is limited to one location. Members wearing uniform to merely get this offer is not acceptable. Stopping for lunch where you pay is different from putting on uniform for a free meal is different. Due to the service protocols if most members cannot take advantage of this offer does not negate the fact that this is still a generous gesture. Mind you, as someone as said above this location is not directly impacted by bushfires.

        • +1

yep, you see plenty of police stop by your local maccas everywhere anytime… Might not be feasible for everyone, but heck, it's still free for those who happen to be around the area (assuming this include the PSOs too). I bet all the PSOs are fighting to get shifted to Glen Waverley station now LOL

      • +3

You've never seen police, ambulance or fire brigade workers getting lunch, in uniform, while on the job?

I don't think they are suggesting 'hey if you're off duty, whack on your uniform for some free food!'.

        • +1

They don't call it the discount suit for nothing….

      • +2

Servicemen are allowed a lunch break you know. You're not expected to change out of your uniform every time you go out to buy lunch.

I see cops and ambos all the time at Coles and Wooleys. They need to shop also.

      • Drop by Ermington and you'll see uniformed workers queuing up to buy pork rolls.

  • +1

You need to ask permission to wear your clothes outside of duty. This is shit.

    • If it's lunch break, is it considered off duty?

    • Can't tell if serious

  • The title makes it sound like Betty Burger's employees get free food at Glen Waverley.

  • Good people doing good things.

  • I’m a public servant (serviceman?) — do beige cargo pants and sneakers count as a uniform?

    • Yes if you job title is within the brackets of the post's description :-p
…any uniformed servicemen and women (Police, Ambulance, Fire and Military)…

  • +6

What a disgraceful attempt at promotion on the back of one of the worst crises the country has seen.

Anyone who is doing their part right now (and hence in uniform) doesn't have time to drive to the bloody Glen to pick up a free burger.

I won't neg this but bloody hell it's tempting to. This is the corporate equivalent of the "take a photo while I hand this homeless person money" Facebook post.

    • Any offer to help should be welcomed.
Really it's highly unlikely many will take this offer up, with the hassle of parking at the Glen, then getting the this place in uniform.
Police working in the area are the most likely to take up the offer. So good for them at least.

      • Exactly though. It's low effort marketing. They get to add their name to good organisation with very little to lose.

    • I don't get this place sometimes, Telstra give away 2 months of free service 'wow Telstra you are so amazing'… how is it any different? It is a small gesture that can help some people and it is also a publicity stunt.

A small burger chain gives away free burgers to people who serve our communities 'what a disgraceful publicity stunt, its so far from the fires its not even useful?'….

If I was a cop, ambo, firey working in the area I would definitely take up the offer if I worked in the area.

      • -1

Australia's population is deeply brainwashed by advertising and they have seen a lot of Telstra ads.

Most of the fools think they aren't effected by advertising but here they are advocating for a scum company while they find smaller businesses just awful - and they did they same thing.

      • Because most people can take up Telstra's offer.

Very very few people can take up this offer, and it's on the proviso that they show up in uniform. If it was "show your ID" I'd be singing a different tune, but this offer of charity is given only on the condition it's as visible as possible that this is what they're doing (hence my last sentence in the post above.)

        • Quite frankly I don't think you have to take it literally : uniformed servicemen . I'm sure if you bother checking that would be covered by producing an ID as long as in the service .

    • -1

the corporate equivalent of the "take a photo while I hand this homeless person money"

So like what Scott Morrison did, except without the physical assault, hypocrisy and not handing over any money while they fund the fossil fuel industry with Government welfare?

We shouldn't be bringing in this American 'thank you for your service' shyte. Just shut up and donate money if you care instead of using it as a cheap advertising campaign. These people can afford things, the ones who need help are the people whose houses just burned to the ground.

    • Why? The company (and many others) have decided they would like to say thanks to those who put their lives on the line. They are also donating money to those affected by the fires. Not sure what your problem with it is?

      • +1

I guess they want the victims and volunteers to burn to the ground faster.
        OP even posted:

donating a portion of every delicious burger (Classic Beef, Crispy Chicken and Classic Vegan) to the Bushfire Appeal,

Why not? We join in in every US war crime like we're part of America.

@mods can there be a mega thread rather than singular deals?

    • There's a forum post, mentioned above.

  • Might be coz this one is close to the police academy and Monash medical
