Khao Lak - Five-Star Beachfront Escape with All-Inclusive Dining - 8 Nights $1999 @ Luxury Escapes

60

Was looking at Luxury Escapes end of year deals and this one looked pretty decent to me. I haven't done a great deal of research on accommodation in the area but $250 a night for a highly rated 5 star resort with all meals included seems like pretty decent value to me.

I liked JW Marriott Khao Lak.
We stayed there on a deal a few years ago, it was 7 nights for $700 incl. breakfast but no lunch/dinner/airport transfer.

  • Pretty expensive. Stayed at the same resort few years back for $600 for 5 nights. Similar inclusions (no nightly dinners).

How long is a few years? Not seeing anything remotely like that price wise unless you step down in quality some way

      • +2

The baht has also appreciated by about a third relative to the AUD over the last year so everything will be more expensive.

I was there in December, absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately they were doing pole driving in the adjacent development from 9am-5pm each day which somewhat spoiled the tranquility.

  • Hi OP, what about cheaper escapes for Ozbargainers?

  • +1

    Where to find discounted escapes???

  • +2

Love Khao Lak been a few times, quietish escape and lots of beaches and the like to explore via scooter yet still possible to do tour/day trips. Each time i've seen the new development and worried it may get like Phuket but so far it's still great retreat. You can easily get good deals just searching yourself via cheaptickets, agoda etc and seeing the patterns for their specials and even the accomm website direct at times.

Nice find OP, love the dinner inclusion.

What's the verdict of Thailand vs Fiji for young families? We've been to Fiji but not Thailand.

    • How was Fiji? Costs and things to do?

    • Thailand is now expensive for au citizens, accommodation is still reasonable but everything else has skyrocketed, expats are leaving because of the high baht and stricter standards for immigration, most are migrating to Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, forget Bali imho the place gets worse every year.

      • I have heard Fiji got more expensive as well although it's now about 7 years since i went.
There used to be fairly good accommodation packages with meals included, kids stay free etc. in a lot of the island resorts.

I enjoyed Samoa and Cook Islands as well. Both have less to do than Fiji but still good in their own way.

Aitutaki out of Cook Islands is to die for and well worth the $ for a flight and day trip (as i did) or even better a resort stay.
Very probably the most beautiful place i have ever seen and i've travelled a bit. (Bora Bora still on the bucket list!)
Be warned though, it is very very remote.

Nice spot, quietish, plenty of places to eat.
Recommend the Italian place Piccolo Maria for those who want something besides Thai food.(Mrs doesn't eat much Thai).
Plenty of day trip tours to do
It's a decent 90mins+ from the airport by taxi so factor that into travel times.
Didn't stay at that resort, i stayed at the Sands which was ok for us as we had an under 10 who loved the water playground.
Stayed in July 18, rained every day for about 1 hour and then was sunny and warm the rest, only 1 day rained all day so not bad for the off season.

Thailand VS Fiji? different style of holiday, more activities in Thailand and the service is better generally.
Fiji more laid back and different, more like island life, I like both but i think Thailand is probably better value for money (and i love the food).

    • Thanks Flattop, I appreciate it 😁

  • The all inclusive dining seems to have different definitions. This deal seems to have 3 daily meals included.

When I stayed in Bali recently, all inclusive meant literally any food, any time at any restaurant (depending on operating times and menu). Alcohol was included with conditions. This was amazing since we had kids who are top level consumers.

May be a silly question, but does the deal include return airfares for two?

    • -4

Of course, good sir. First class too. Be sure to bring your slippers and pipe.

    • Why do I get - vote? It’s a serious question

      • -2

because we get annoyed with people who dont read the post… - it doesnt list flights included so they're not

      • +1

It doesn't for the listed price, but there are options to include flights. By the looks of it it adds at least another $1,100 for 2 adults if departing Melb

  • It’s a good deal for ppl planning to stay in the hotel the entire time? would have preferred less lunch and dinner inclusions for more massages. Only 1x 45mins massage in 8 nights.

If I was spending 8 nights in khao lak I would probably resort hop. Split 4 nights between different resorts. So many beautiful resorts.

Surprise no one posted the Banyan Tree boxing deal direct from Banyan Tree. Ended 31/12 but so worth it if you already had flights booked. Resorts are all villas and very private. I did a search and it was cheaper than the deal we bought from from secret escape with more inclusions. Banyan Tree villas are $800+ a night down to $250. It’s our favourite hotel brand. So cheap.

Last yr we went to Thailand, we found it cheapest booking direct with the hotel. Very often if you check hotel’s website, they gave better deals to encourage booking directly.

For example, we paid $120 p/n for Avani Waterfront Bangkok which included social hr access (unlimited canapes and any cocktails between 5pm to 7pm) this paid for the room already, bfst and an afternoon high tea set! we only stayed 1 night. All rooms are panoramic riverview and hotel has it’s own river boat. The rooftop restaurant, bar and infinity pool has the best view of Bangkok. On booking engines like Agoda it was $180+ with no inclusions.

    • Thanks for that Sal, I'll keep an eye out for Banyan Tree…

    • Surprise no one posted the Banyan Tree boxing deal direct from Banyan Tree

Please post any more deals you happen to see for Banyan Tree - I'm sure there would be a few interested at least.

  • Corona Virus is emptying out the place - could be some great deals for gutsy ozbargainers! My family love Khao Lak , possible January (high season) trip coming up so fingers crossed prices dive
