This camera comes with a 1/2.3" small CMOS sensor so the picture quality won't be much better than photos taken by phones.
RX10 III that Sony Store occasionally sells at $999 is the one to go.
True but Sony RX10 III/IV is 24-600mm vs 24-3000mm for Nikon Coolpix P1000.
So Nikon has a much bigger zoom and Sony has better image quality.
Depends of your usage I guess.

I guess to get that much optical zoom into that form factor, Nikon have to compromise the sensor size. The RX10 iiii make do with less zoom therefore can fit a bigger sensor. I went on safaris with a full frame and a 600mm zoom and that was more or less enough (the optics were long and heavy as). Can’t imagine what I can do with a 3000mm equivalent zoom though…

I bought a totally different camera today at a very similar price! Seeing this HOT BARGAIN had me worried I might have made a purchase mistake. But now I don't think so.
The review photos from this camera looks blurry. Not for me.
This thing is hopelessly useless, might be good for peeking down lady jane beach from the top of watson bay cliff on a bright sunny day. But even so you'll need a very sturdy tripod at 125x zoom. It might be a bargain 10 years ago at this price but for now, way overpriced!
