Streets Vegan & Dairy Free Cornetto 360ml Pk 4 $4.50 @ Woolworths

980

I actually like these dairy free cornettos.

Tried them in NZ, can recommend.

"Water, sucrose, vegetable oil, glucose syrup, glucose-fructose syrup, corn flour, maize starch, roasted hazelnuts, soybean powder (1.4%), cocoa powder, emulsifiers (471, 322, 442), vegetable gums (410, 412, 407 (contains dextrose from wheat)), salt, flavour."

The wafer doesn't appear to be made of wheat, so there's small amounts of gluten in the cornettto. Depends how sensitive you are to wheat, but it isn't triggering an adverse reaction for me. YMMV.

Obviously but not everyone can eat everything? What if you were dairy intolerant?

      • +4

good point. there are people who cannot have dairy due to allergy. So this is an option for them now.
Doesn't meant they dont eat meat.

        • +1

Or medical reasons they've developed later on… People really need to keep their opinions to themselves sometimes.

          • @scuderiarmani: I'm all for giving your opinion, just prepare to be roundly criticised if it's a sh1t one.

      • +1

Would have bought some for my dairy intolerant daughter - but, alas she's also allergic to nuts.

    • +16

All of the pleasure with none of the guilt.

    • +33

sigh the vast majority of vegans enjoy the taste of meat, they're just looking to minimise the suffering their lifestyle choices have on sentient life and the impact on the environment
      It's as simple as that

      • +16

Exactly. I value life over my taste buds. It's nothing to do with taste, for me it's simply aligning my morals and actions.

There are many misconceptions. I find it curious that one would complain about a food option that is made available that incurs significantly reduced suffering on sentient life.

        • -7

Everytime we breath we're inhaling millions of dust mites.

          • +9

@mlakmlak: It’s about taking a path that inflicts the least amount of harm. But by all means, stop consuming oxygen if you feel that strongly about it.

    • +22

Hi Alex. Its a little more nuanced than that. having consumed dairy and meat based products for a sizeable chunk of my life, i, probably like many others, actually enjoyed the flavour of those things.
I made the conscious decision to become vegan because of a number of factors, including ethical and environmental. Do i still miss meat and dairy, absolutely, but i at least know that for me what i am doing makes me feel better and what i feel is right (for me).
Please for the sake of the planet and our treatment of our animal brethern, I encourage you to research a little on the subject of meat and dairy farming and also to look at the environmental footprint that meat and dairy farming has on our planet.
Although i am well aware it is profit driven, it is good to see companies actually trying alternative recipies to cater for all kinds of people (noting the environmental footprint of these are questionable given that they are a product from some european place rather than australia….but hey, small steps for such a stubborn society), it will hopefully lead to a more inclusive, forgiving and supportive place for all of us (pie in the sky I know but you have to stay optimistic).
Don't dismiss them just because, try them, research the subject material, and just have an open mind to the topic.

      • -5

interesting, not many things you can buy packaged havent been transported all around the place

    • +3

More than half the world is actually lactose intolerant and that percentage is just going to keep increasing.

      • +5

possibly has something to do with the concept of cows milk and what our bodies should and shouldn't be consuming and processing….i admit though i haven't researched this aspect.

        • +2

It's because certain ethnicities haven't consumed as much dairy historically, and so there wasn't the competitive advantage to retention of the gene that breaks down lactose.

For instance, people from Northern India are a lot less likely to be lactose intolerant than those from Southern India.

    • +15

I don't know why you're getting your Reginalds in a twist mate. The last two front page bargains were dairy ice creams. If you prefer dairy, go and buy that one. It's not rocket science gov'nor. I'm not vegan, but I'm not against it (in fact I'm trying to at least reduce my meat etc). I know that us Mammals are group thinkers and pack animals, but consider thinking outside the box and open your mind up.

    • +7

I like to try vegan food sometimes, does it make me a vegan?

Also can someone tell why someone always has to make this comment in every vegan deal?

  • +4

Looking forward to trying this at this price. I would not pay $9 retail

  • +12

This and the vegan magnum are both not bad

  • Just mill me.

  • +7

What a time to be alive

  • +1

Then there is the nut allergy

  • +5

Coeliacs eat these too! They're our gluten-free nearest option for a cornetto. As per coeliac guidelines dextrose derived from wheat (like glucose syrup) is one of the few wheat derived products safe for coeliacs. They're actually not too bad - and the soy ice-cream is not that remarkably different from the airy foam low-fat dairy ice cream used in the regular ones.

I'd give anything to have a good ice cream in a cone again!

    • +6

      They're actually not too bad

      They are exceptionally unhealthy.

      • +1

Don’t understand the negs, you’re not wrong. These are about the worst thing you can consume, they’re just sugar and vegetable oil. At least with a regular ice-cream you’re getting some protein.

        • -2

Literally the worst 2 ingredients, plus you get a bit of estrogenic soybean powder. But it's vegan so it must be healthy, right?!

          • @elli0t: Cows milk has literal estrogen in it, so if that's what worries you then you should stop using dairy. Soy contains phytoestrogen and the whole 'soy makes men have breasts' has been debunked by science. Continue believing myths sprouted by the dairy industry though if that's what makes you happy. Just don't spread around completely unsound theories as facts.

    • The cone is good.

I'm a coeliac too, but I wasn't sure if it counts as gluten free.

      Thanks for clearing it up.

    • My celiac daughter has a nut allergy :(

  • "glucose syrup, glucose-fructose syrup"

    enjoy these vegans.

    • +1

Don't forget the vegetable oil and soybean powder..

    • +2

It's not like they're going to add this junk food treat to their daily diets.

Plenty of unhealthy non-vegan shit as will like the non-vegan variant of this product.

    • -1

Because those who eat meat are saints when it comes to eating nutritious food?

  • -7

"Water, sucrose, vegetable oil, glucose syrup, glucose-fructose syrup, corn flour, maize starch, roasted hazelnuts, soybean powder (1.4%), cocoa powder, emulsifiers (471, 322, 442), vegetable gums (410, 412, 407 (contains dextrose from wheat)), salt, flavour."

who would have guessed being vegan is so unhealthy?

    • +18

Who would have guessed eating a Streets ice cream is so unhealthy?

    • +13

who would have guessed becoming vegan doesn't magically make ice cream healthy?

      FTFY

  • -7

Water, sugar, vegetable oil, sugar, sugar, corn flour, sugar, roasted hazelnuts, soybean powder (1.4%), cocoa powder, emulsifiers (471, 322, 442), vegetable gums (410, 412, 407 (contains sugar from wheat)), salt, flavour.

    So healthy.

    • +13

It's ice cream, what do you expect?

      • +1

        .. without the cream.

        • +1

Cream is a description of consistency. Doesn’t mean dairy. For example you also have sun cream and Haemorrhoid cream.

          • -2

@[Deactivated]: Don’t spin. “Ice cream” is a noun, by definition a product that must contain “cream” (also a noun), by definition, a dairy ingredient, and is not a description.

            • +3

@AlexF: Yeah, just like coconut cream or cream soda

              • +1

@MrTweek: As I wrote, "ice cream" is a noun. Look it up.

    Disgusteng

    • +1

Is that German for disgusting? :)

  • +2

Not a fan of the emulsifiers x3… these bad boys are starting to be linked to the increased occurrences of bowel cancer :/

But also… they’re everywhere so whatever.

  • +4

Vegetable oil is not good for you. In fact many of those ingredients are shocking.

It comes down to pure marketing that this is somehow healthy.

Try Pana brand if you want something without the nasties.

    • +7

Huh? No one said it’s healthier. It’s about not wanting to inflict harm on a sentient being for the 5 minutes of pleasure it provides.

      • +3

Its not just not healthier, its far far unhealthier as well as farming those ingredients arent good for the environment or certain living creatures either. There are articles on farming of vegetables / vegan products that show how much they also impact environment and living creatures.

      • It comes from how vegans generally associate veganism = healthy. And generally for the most part, I'd agree until all these processed alternatives are becoming more common.

        • They’re deluded if they think that vegan = healthy. Totally unrelated. If anything, vegan food is proven to kill without supplementation and proper planning, the first signs of B12 deficiency damage can be irreversible.

Go look at the numbers of ex and recovering vegans. Many of them have destroyed their bodies.

      • +2

        Palm oil.

Enjoy the thinking of the dying orangutans as you munch in.

  • -1

vegetable oil is often palm oil ….. so if you are vegan to save the planet and animals check the saturated fat content and trans fats to see if they are hiding palm oil under the vegetable oil banner, palm oil which of course leads to deforestation, orangutans habitats being cleared, etc. or just google vegan magnum or cornetto and palm oil …..

other option is cows being milked and cream and milk being used.
although we see the $1 milk and think prices haven’t gone up …..the cost of cream has gone up over the last few years, as has the cost of butter ( need cream to make butter) so there is incentives for unilver and nestle to cut costs by removing cream from products where viable.

  • Like many Asians, blacks and Latinos, I'm lactose intolerant. I have to run to the loo if I have a regular Cornetto… But ice cream has a nostalgic value (before I made the link with lactose intolerance). I'll give most vegan ice creams a try… Just not these ones. Too many other dodgy ingredients.

    • If you had to run to the loo everytime you had ice cream, how did you not get onto it straight away? Or was it certain types? I know for me i am lactose intolerant but i can have dairy etc. Just that i have noticed some processed dairy items have a large effect on me while majority of others have a smaller effect on me as in stuffy nasal passages or a bit bloated etc.

I gotta say though, those ingredients are so bad.

  • +2

My son has a dairy allergy and this is one of the treats he can eat. Not often though but it means he eat similar to other kids every now and again.

    • This. People should realise there are many good reasons for such foods.

  • -1

Do you grow breasts like in the vegan burgers if you eat this product also

  • +1

What did they eat before all these rubbish?

  • +4

Unless for allergy and lactose intolerance reasons, all the substitutes to make it taste nice are actually worse than the dairy variants from a health stand point.

    • Neither are particularly healthy.

      Dairy Cornetto

Dairy ingredients (reconstituted skim milk, milk solids), water, cane sugar, vegetable oil, wheat flour, glucose, roasted peanuts, cocoa powder, corn starch, emulsifiers (471, 476, soybean lecithin), stabilisers (412, 410, 407), salt, colour (155), dextrose (from wheat)..

      Vegan Cornetto

Water, sucrose, vegetable oil, glucose syrup, glucose-fructose syrup, corn flour, maize starch, roasted hazelnuts, soybean powder (1.4%), cocoa powder, emulsifiers (471, 322, 442), vegetable gums (410, 412, 407 (contains dextrose from wheat)), salt, flavour.

    • Who tf is eating this as a health food???

  • I get the animal cruelty reasons, but aren't environmental factors way overblown?

I was under the impression that properly managed grass fed cattle could be carbon negative in the short term and carbon neutral in the long term.

Just hard to figure out who and what to believe these days, everyone and everything seems to have an agenda.
