Any banks that don't send card and welcome packs?

I want to open a bank account online and I don't want or need a debit card or a annoying welcome pack.

Are there any banks or credit unions that don't send out a debit card and welcome pack if I request these things not be sent to me?

I'm not sure if this is what I'm looking for but that link does educate me. I didn't know some banks require an additional account to be opened along side a savings account. Thanks

assuming someone's identity to open an account?

      • Else I’d imagine you could just simply cut up / recycle those pesky cards and packs.

The only other reason I can think of was pointed out by mtg.

        • -7

Two people have already guessed correctly. One person on this forum and another person on Whirlpool.

          • +6

@deepcloe: Get their addresses, we’ll have to send them both red balloon vouchers…

    • +2

would be fairly brazen to ask a public forum if that was the case

it could be someone trying to establish financial independence from a controlling partner/relative?

we'll never know unless OP tells us

Suncorp Growth Saver Account definitely doesn't have a debit card - not sure about the welcome pack.

online savings accounts dont have cards

    • Oh is that what the first poster was getting at when posting that link. Thank you for letting me know about the cardless savings accounts.

      Much appreciated.

    Identity theft alert.

I open an account with your details after stealing your mail.

The only way you're going to find out is if the Bank posts something to you to say "Hey! You've got a new account!"

Why do you care if someone opens a transaction/savings account? Because it's your name attached to the fraudulent use (e.g. money laundering) or potentially being used to strengthen their ID set so they can apply for credit products in your name which will then be your problem to sort out once they have the cash.

If you don't have a lock on your mailbox, this is a genuine reason to spend the $10 to do it. Better still, switch what bills and notices you can to electronic so they're even harder to steal.

        • -2

My mail ain't going to get you my passport or drivers license details.

          • +2

@deepcloe: If you have access to someones mail, there's a good chance you know who they're using for their utilities, their bank, their shopping etc. People not be naive enough to fall for generic phishing attacks, but targeted spear phishing with your correct name / account number / bank details etc is another story. If you have enough information to make a convincing fake, you'd be surprised how many people it catches. I actually work for a company that helps identity theft victims and this certainly isn't unheard of.

      • -1

I also struggle to see the connection. Mainly because if identity theft was your plan you would probably be better at doing your research.

I think it would help if can clarify exactly what you are trying to do.

I have signed up with ING/ similar accounts for the high-interest accounts in the past. They always send a letter to your home address. (Although not always a big welcome package).

Depends on what you are trying to do. If it is to transfer funds or create a private saving account there are other ways to do that if you are interested.

Yes I am interested in what you know, please do share…

@deepcloe: Setting up a bank account without getting mail is hard. If it is just for temporary holding money there may be options but if you need a full account i dont think it is possible.

Nah just suspicious you sign up and instead of posting a deal or commenting on a deal you ask a question that can be used to commit identity fraud .

Sounds like OP takes a lot, but doesn’t give …

You mean if you request something using someone else’s address you don’t want them to receive your fraudulently requested card?

    • +1

Ah hem, how can one use a "fraudulently" issued card if its not sent?

      • +2

The card would be fraudulently issued, but the account could be the thing fraudulently used (you don't need a card to use an account). Having the card sent to the real person's address would tip them off.

I'll bet they all send out cards, though one might imagine there 'should' be a way to open one in person without being sent a card, for victims of domestic abuse etc.

        • I wouldn't need to send the card to the "real person's" address. Banks allow a second mailing address when applying to open an account.

    • No, that's not quit what I meant.

  • +13

OP might just want to be avoiding their parents or something.

        Correct on first sentence.

        Incorrect on second sentence.

You have a 50% guess rate.

        • +2

Get it sent to a friend or family member

          • @[Deactivated]: I already thought of that but banks require proof of address (Utility bill with my name on it)

            • +1

@deepcloe: mailing address can be different from your home address.

Or may be I don't want my wife finding out about this bank account………just may be.

      • +12

Grow some balls OP, how are you gonna live life being so afraid?

        • -6

I still insist on having a secret bank account. It's for the best.

          • +27

@deepcloe: I imagine removing yourself from your marriage would be for the best, if you’re keeping secret accounts

      • +2

When you open account you need residential proof, so if you want sign up you need open utility bill under friend address temporarily, then you can send always that welcome pack there.(you can transfer that account your friend name back).Afterward you can register online and give your secreat new email address which no one will know and Mark all statement and notification will be end my email not mail.
Problem is when they re send expired debit card they will send your friend address without your knowledge otherwise all statements comes by email.
Good luck buddy but it's matter of time partner know always, because your extra making will be cost you time and you can not hide your time from partner. Also I do not help friend like you lol.(bad karma)

        • Thanks for the creative advice, I do appreciate it. I will consider this method but will look for any easier options.

  • +1

Go to the AusPost site, get your (just stuff in your name) redirected to a friend or whatever. Then sign up and all mail will go to the other address and the rest of the mail will be delivered normally.

    • Banks won't allow debit cards/welcome packs to be redirected. They let it be known to Auspost. Anything from the bank after that, can be redirected.

  • set up a po box

    • Banks won't accept PO boxes as addresses.

      • get it sent to a branch for pickup. homeless people must have a way to do this

      • Do a mail redirection for 3 months. But then all your mail will go there

        • And the mail redirect confirmation letter comes to my address, that will leave me with some big questions to answer from my wife after she reads the letter.

          • @deepcloe: Isn’t it illegal to read other people’s mail?

            • +1

@cowiie: You think husbands or wives will be charged for opening their significant others letters?

            • @cowiie: it is only causing troubles when caught. The Banks been sucking zillions out of this country, so sad. If she gets a female judge then you might have become an obsolete species.

  • ING direct?

    • Suncorp and Commonwealth are leading atm, I'll also look into ING direct as well.

I'm looking hard at savings accounts, but I'm not sure if one already needs a transaction account to link to the savings account.

      • Rams owned by Westpac, if you deposit 200 bucks every month and make no withdrawal you get 2% and no other useless crap, limit 500k.

Suncorp, average bank, better app than Combank mobile app but fraudulent insurer. (read thread about their AAMI brand)

Ing: Support the Dutch they got a 4 month lollie then slap your back of your head.

Ub the newbie: Sends out a carton in A5 format with card that makes google pay of if you have a Samsung it supposed to work with forceware too. Tried google pay, it is quicker than the combank with the chip and fills your phone with messages.

The landscape changes all the time. Suncorp was the best in the late 80's then kept flooding us with useless booklets and forced us to pay for their mistakes.

Combank, if you are a drug dealer needing to spend your omo-matic.

I use Transferwise to deal with foreign exchange and I'm 95% sure they do what you want. But there's no interest on money held… not that that matters much these days. Might be worth having a look anyway.

    • Very interesting. They deal in business accounts. I am a sole trader, so I'll look into it. I guess I'm going to have a busy couple of days looking at all these banking accounts, it's actually sparking my interest.

    • I only learned about them and used them a few days ago. They seem pretty decent and I might try opening up some foreign accounts with my bank.

  • +2

Up and 86400 still send a card out, but it’s literally the ATM card and a single piece of cardboard. Pretty eco friendly if that’s your concern.

    • +7

OP is possibly cheating on his wife They're not concerned about the environment, just about getting caught

    • Yeah? No big welcome pack?

I'm actually trying to avoid my other half discovering this bank account.

      • +1

Wouldn’t the smartest option be to just get an account with your existing bank in your name only, and if any questions you’re just getting a replacement card. There’s no issue with her checking the mail that way. Hell even tell her the ATM ate your card or something a week or so in advance.

You’re already keeping cash secret from her, may as well start lying as well?

        • +1

Technically I'm not keeping the cash a secret, I just don't think it's necessary to tell her about it.

  • +1

Don't you need the 3 or 4 digit CVC code on back of the card to use it? I'm not sure you can get the expiry date from online banking either. It proves that you have the physical card.

    • +1

I don't need the debit card. Just somewhere safe to stash money. Somewhere safe from my wife.

      • +9

It sounds like you're in an extremely toxic relationship, and I'm sorry about that. Why not get out of it?

      • +3

Dude, just get the divorce and give her half if you didn't get a pre-nup.
The lawyers are going to find the money if it is in your name anyway

  • +2

Go to a bank branch and ask them?

    • -3

You know what, that is pretty sound advice. But I don't want to talk to bank tellers, I suspect they don't know much. I'll call the banks.

      • +4

I think you’d suspect wrong. There may be some bad eggs, but I suspect most people are somewhat reasonable at their job?

        • -1

I don't think their knowledge extends that far.

        • -2

I think that's a naive assumption to make. I have regularly had to explain to bank tellers how their own product works (who invariably then treat me like I'm stupid for questioning them, only for me to be proved right!).

Being competent enough to sit behind a desk and process withdrawals/deposits etc doesn't mean you necessarily know much about banking. (Not that I doubt some of them have amazing skills - it just isn't required of them)

          • +1

@callum9999: OP is asking which account doesn’t have a card posted to them… I would imagine bank tellers basic skills are knowing, or having access to be able to answer this question.

            Complex banking, probably not…

          • @callum9999: Let me guess term deposurs

  • You can also consider having your mail redirected to another address if you are concerned?

  • I know Greater Bank can have you open up just a savings account (I do have the under 25 account), which doesn't need a transaction account (hence no debit card). Good place to stash cash and still have transferring ability.

    • Does opening up a saver without a transaction account only apply to under 25' with Greater bank?

  • +2

Don't they track all bank accounts during a divorce

    • Nope. From all the anecdotes I've heard regarding divorce stories, the other half can only claim what they know you have. So if you have a bank account with all your savings and they don't know about it, then tough luck.

  • +3

Tell me why you don't want your partner to find out, and I will tell you how to open a bank account without card or welcome pack.

    • +2

I want to know the goss

    • +8

My partner has a shopping addiction (clothes) and has maxed out 4 credit cards without my knowledge, also she has spent $20,000 dollars (half of our total combined savings) we were going to use to save up for a mortgage on a house. Basically she put us in a $40,000 dollar hole.

Hiding money from her is my solution.

      • +9

Sounds like a healthy solution to be sure, quality relationship that one!
