    They are overpriced imho

    • Perhaps grab 4x the previous deal for $79.60?
      (yeah they’re different, I know)

    • what smart bulbs are reasonably priced? Are there any alibayexpress alternatives you would recommend?

GLEDOPTO on AliExpress do a bunch of Philips Hue/Zigbee compatible bulbs. I'd get globes that need a hub over WiFi globes any day. Most WiFi access points have limits to the amount of WiFi devices can be connected to it at once.

Another option is have a second WiFi access point or Router for these types of devices. Could even be set to be a different LAN segment to keep them away from your internal network, I know what you mean though.

          • @Borg: or you could just buy a better router setup then your not locked into a hub
i run a fair few devices now off my netgear orbi setup without issues

@BuDWiZe: Sometimes it is the provider not the device. Optus (Sagecomm) has a restriction of 32 devices. (so you can only connects max 64 devices at any given time. 32 on 2.4 and 32 on 5). But the issue is most of the smart devices support only 2.4 GHZ.

@cart: yeah rule number 1 stay away from provider routers and not just for wifi connections

              • @cart: Why would any home automation device require 5ghz? Networks with 802.11ac is rarely exclusive of delivering 2.4ghz spectrum, which offers greater range.

      • Phillips Hue were like $10/bulb or something on Amazon AU once.

        • wow $10 a bulb seems ridiculously good. surely a price error?

          • @Kozhutki: I think the cool white/warm white globes dropped to around $15 during the Black Friday sales. Not the RGB ones though.

Are these globes small ones for like lamps?

    • No standard fittings.
