OP might be worth mentioning this is an inkjet printer.

    • Amended the title, thanks for the suggestion

  • Anyone think it’s worth getting this printer? I got a shitty one and need to upgrade 😂

granted these are 3,000-3,500 pg but this is too expensive for my blood

for business i can sort of go ok with this IF you also tie it in with a very high capacity B&W laser

I have a 3year old mfp m477 fwd at work. It looks similar to this one. Mine has been an absolute workhorse. The Genuine cartridges are about $250 x 4 colours. Or non genuine about $90 each from tonerbee or inkstation. They last about 4000 pages. You can get all 4 cartrdges for under $150 on ebay too. The drum is integrated into each cartridge so the printer is indestructible. Apart from annoying paper jams when I use cheap paper, it has gone through about 7-8 sets of cartridges without an issue. It’s a laser colour printer.

    • Can't really compare. That's a totally different machine. This is an inkjet, yours is a colour laser.

      • So only the model number is same? What a bummer. I’d never buy an inkjet for any serious printing. I got mine for the rrp of this one and I thought this was the discounted price for the new model.

        • The numbers are the same but the names are different. Yours would be a HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477FDW, and this is HP PageWide Pro 477DW

          • @petestrash: Two completely different models with the same product name - that's really bad marketing!

  • Nobody credits price hipster. Sad

Just FYI from a PW 577DW owner.

Please don't get thrown by the "inkjet" term for this printer.

Yes, it is an inkjet, but totally different to the cheap inkjets that move a head across a page for nice slow wait awhile printing.

These print a whole "Page Wide" (hence the name) in one hit - no moving head. The rated ISO print speed on the 577 is 50 pages per minute. They can hit nearly 70 ppm in draft mode. I'm sure the 477DW will be close to those speeds also.

I use the 'X' cartridges (black rated at 10,000 pages) which you can pick up for about $210 about 2c per page.

I'm IT, my wife an accountant and we do print a fair bit but I have Yellow and Magenta I haven't even changed yet since 27/8/2017.

We bought this to replace a Samsung laser at the time and have not looked back. Very cool. Also, not being a laser, much less power hungry.

    Food for thought.

Purchased one of these for a workplace over a year ago, and it’s a workhorse absolutely worthy of purchase. If I was needing to upgrade my printer at home, this would also be what i’d replace it with.

The colour quality is sensational, especially on matte paper stock. We were printing recipe cards on this thing using 200gsm card stock using the highest quality print settings and they were constantly perfect. Gloss stock however with this printer is best avoided, you’ll have to run it through one or more cleaning cycles to prevent streaks on future print jobs.

Also - Just make sure to hunt around for the genuine cartridges price wise. If you need them in a pinch, then it isn’t hard to find them at a price that makes an Officeworks accountant cry when they see how much they lost on a price match, but there are always better deals on genuine cartridges for it via eBay if you don’t need them ASAP.

Also would strongly recommend using the High Yield (X) cartridges, as they deliver much better value.

  • Purchased this deal yesterday - Thanks! Picked up today - just tried to do the cashback submission and the website hangs - so will keep this thread updated.

Other than that , cool unit - big in footprint/dimensions so check you can store it ! :)
