He said he was in the cubs, not a choir boy.
@banana365: You must have been real fun to be around at Xmas a couple of days ago.
It’s knot a bad app.
Such a good app. Use it at work all the time. Got it last time it was free.
What do you do for work?
A lot of different things, but one of the things I do is load stuff onto trucks. Knots are always handy to know.
I also do volunteer work and always being asked to move things or mount things, tie things. It’s handy to have the ability to look up a sliding knot or an end knot or a loop knot. I don’t tie enough to remember them all, so it’s great to just be able to whip out the app and look up would might suit the job.
I have also learned a heap of new knots that I use regularly and committed them to memory just from using this app.
Which knots do you use the most?
@Arthur Dunger: Both the truckers hitches, reef knot, clove hitch are ones I use most regularly that I learned how to do correctly from the app.
There is another one I have used quite a bit
that I cant remember the name of(edit: Found it, "Alpine Butterfly"), but it's basically a non-slip loop in the middle of the rope. Usually use it on flag ropes to just hook over the cleat so it doesn't pull tight and can just be lifted off.
S&M
Rope play is more B&D than S&M
@LikeMike: Depends on where and how tight it is… :D
I thought I'd use the hell out of it, for the same reason. Neh. I just use the same 1-3 knots for evvverything. Rock solid, simple, but I probably take too long.
Don't keep us in suspense, which knots?
I find there's very little that can't be done with the figure-8 knot and the Zeppelin bend. Except shoelaces, for which the Zeppelin bend is overkill.
However, there are some specialist knots that can do things that no other knot can, like the water bowline, and the intriguing icicle hitch: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icicle_hitch
After 20 odd years, I finally searched for the name: Overhand Loop
I use them on end/s & once/twice along the rope for compound (mech advantage). I know there are faster & 'slip' style (which I see fail a LOT) options. And people don't like this, because it can be a prick to get it apart.
I have my techniques, only ONCE had to CUT (old-style dry fibre rope) . And meanwhile, the strength can buckle anything I tied it to (exc. steel), drive 110km/h with 100% confidence. Never re-tighten.
I've moved 100's of huge oddball loads, from MEL-SYD style house moves, play equip, 1ton construction materials… Anything.
Is it 3D or knot?
Frayed knot.
She'll never escape again.
Cool but it's a 2D animation you can scrub the timeline of, and rotate. It's not 3D.
Got this for free last year. Have I tied any knots? I'm a frayed knot.
