Should have bought one when the 2700X was $199 on Amazon a few weeks ago. Hesitated and it was gone

Ouch, sorry to hear. When Amazon has a sales I honestly doubt I'd ever be able to compete on prices like that lol. I'm assuming that was shipped from Amazon US? I guess at least the best I can do is offer express postage and as I'm local it should be very quick delivery instead of waiting for overseas delivery :-)

Best of luck with your Christmas Holiday deal hunting :-)

    • there are heaps of 1700x for under 200 on aliexpress, they should be same architecture but lower clocked

  • Any Intel special?

    • Unfortunately not at this time I'm afraid. But if you send me a pm I'll see what I can do for you.

    • Out of curiosity why would you want Intel at the moment? Or are you just looking at a CPU upgrade with the same motherboard?

      • Yes because at the moment I am using Intel i5-6500 CPU 3.2 Ghz from a few years back

        • Unfortunately none of the current Intel CPUs are compatible with older motherboards. So if you wanted a new CPU you will also need to get a new motherboard anyway.
However if might be worth looking at a 2nd hand i7 that is compatible if you're on a budget.

Nice but it's outperformed by the this years 3600x which costs around the same..

Generally gaming yes I would agree. But does depend on workload too :-)
This is still a bit faster in a lot of multi-threaded and productivity workloads. There are quite a few benchmarks and reviews comparing them on youtube.

Bingo, even just get a 3600 for something like sub-$280 on eBay. These are post-EoL prices, not a sale or clearance price.

Deals for this have been <$280 for the past few months

It's currently $259.91 from Amazon AU, shipped from the US, free shipping with Prime.

why would anyone get this when you can get the 3600 on ebay during sale for the a mucher cheaper price and its faster with less cores and less heat?

    • The 2700x can be purchased for cheaper than a 3600. The 2700x has two more cores, so will be superior to a 3600 for high thread workloads.

For gaming you would be better off with a 3600.

      • I do not believe that you are right, the 3600 from what I know has a similar multi-thread score as the 2700x. 8 cores would probably be useful for some VMs where you may want to assign cores to it… but that is about it.

        • Well I'm not wrong, so… hmmm… …

There are more use cases than just a VM machine that benefit from a higher core count. I think media servers would be one example.

    • 2700x for $257 on Amazon seems like a more attractive option for those who prefer RGB cooler and extra cores over gaming performance.
