Boost is $135 @ Coles currently
80GB and Telstra vs Vodafone network.
+ unlimited international calls and text to 25 countries.

        Boost still wins..

Why does everyone rave about boost's 80gb deal, what if you need much more than 80gb?

I'm on a 365 day catch connect deal, 375gb for $185. Never seen a better deal. $205 during their 50% off sale a few months back plus $20 cashback from cashrewards. No issue with signal at all

31.25gb per month for $15.42/month. Thanks for coming

          • +2

@bighorse: I'm on the same plan after switching from Kogan 13gb/month at the end of July. $205 less 10% discount + paid with discounted gift cards. Ended up paying about $173. But the data reception is really bad. Always cutting out. I wouldn't go back on it.

            • @CVonC: Great price. Damn that's annoying about the data reception. I haven't had any issues yet, always on 4G four bars inside my house about 35km from Perth cbd. Seems to be fine elsewhere I go around Perth

              • @bighorse: Yeah I'm in Sydney. And pretty much wherever I drive (all over Sydney) my streaming radio always cuts out every so often (even my woolies petrol app pops up and confirms no internet connection lol). I think it's over subscription or something. And tbh, Kogan's data reception was starting to deteriorate over the last year I was with them (was with them for 2 years). But it was nowhere near as bad as Catch's. Catch was bad from the get go!

            • @CVonC: You sound like my exact scenario….right down to the poor reception on catch/Optus.

I won’t be back when this plan expires

              • @seedyrom:

You sound like my exact scenario

Yeah not really surprised tbh. Must be the congestion in our city!

          • @bighorse:

what if you need much more than 80gb?

Boost has a bigger 365 day plan too. Turns out, I don't need more than 80gb. There's a whole lot of people who don't.
I get 20GB from Telstra every month and I use maybe 5-6GB.

For me, I need Telstra reception. Vodafone is laughable.
My mum is on Optus and is constantly complaining about service at the shops (Coles/Woolies) where as with Telstra I have no problems.
Would be tempting to see regional Optus network however.

            • @pennypincher98: Yeah they do and it's $300 for 20gb/month. This deal is $46 cheaper, and I got a bigger data plan for even cheaper as above, so if coverage isn't an issue than this deal is better. Just saying.. I've been on the Optus network for the majority of the past 8 years and rarely had issues.

But I do understand people have different needs. My mum lives in a weird blackspot, you'd get 4G all around but her section of the street barely gets 3G, phone calls dropping out, so she had to switch to Telstra also. And for someone like her who needs minimal data then boost would be ideal. But for people needing more data there are better deals out there

              • @bighorse:

so if coverage isn't an issue than this deal is better.

                That's a big if.

Yeah they do and it's $300 for 20gb/month. This deal is $46 cheaper

The other Boost deal was just $240 not long ago.

Since when did 6-7GB per month become minimal data?!?
My mum is lucky to use 1GB lol.

                • @pennypincher98: Depends on the situation I guess. I have two kids who hotspot off my mobile when we're out, so I need the extra data. My mum doesn't have internet at home so she hotspots off her phone for her home internet usage

Even at home I recently discovered our data usage had shot up and it took me a while to realise that it was my 4 year old son watching his favourite YouTube channel on the big TV in 4K quality hahaha it was using 7gb/hour!! Crazy. Had to turn that shit right down.

                    @bighorse:

4 year old son watching his favourite YouTube channel on the big TV in 4K

Ummm so are you saying at four years old not only do they have an iPad but they watch YouTube frequently enough to have a favourite and know how to connect it to the big tv and change the quality to 4K?

                    • @pennypincher98: Lol mate… The TV has a YouTube app built in, and he watches educational videos. It's no different than turning on abc kids. The content was set to 4K automatically which we didn't know about. Not sure if you're trying to judge my parenting now?? I think you'll find almost all toddlers watch videos and play games on tablets these days

                      • -1

@bighorse: At least try to hide your childish neg. I wasn't judging I was simply curious because that's a generation I didn't grow up in and haven't had kids myself yet.
So you can stop acting so butthurt.

I think you'll find almost all toddlers watch videos and play games on tablets these days

Also that's incredibly sad if it's true. Who needs toys when you can just stick a screen in front of them, no mess to clean up!

                        • @pennypincher98: Lol no worries mate. When you have kids you'll understand. Not nice when people make comments about your parenting without even knowing you. I don't like kids having a lot of screen time either but unfortunately that's just where the world has gone. Just have to limit the amount. Doesn't help that most schools these days make it compulsory for every student to have an iPad (at the parents expense), I think that's an absolute joke

    No international calls

  • Just a word of caution regarding catch connect: since I moved 3 numbers to catch earlier this year, we started receiving unsolicited calls and sms from cold call marketers. Maybe a coincidence but it makes me suspicious. The indoor signal penetration is better than voda and telstra networks, however I’ve been experiencing frequent sms send and receive delays and call drops since with catch/optus. Often more frequent issues than during my previous 24 months with kogan/voda. Sydney south east region.

    • There's a few spots between Hornsby to Gosford where I couldn't get reception. But I don't have any other sim cards to compare. Other than that, everywhere else has been good.

      • What's this network with?
2 years ago with Voda I had significant issues in this area.
Currently with Telstra and service drops from Woy Woy-Wondabyne but no complaints otherwise.
Tempted to run an Optus SIM down and compare.

        • It’s Optus

    486gb - $315.10 = $26.25 / 40.5GB
    243gb - $254.30 = $21.19 / 20.25GB
    158gb - $205.60 = $17.13 / 13.16GB
    36gb - $152.10 = $12.67 / 3GB

  • This is almost exact the same price as Kogan mobile 365 day flex. Except for the lowest plan…

    https://www.koganmobile.com.au/plans/mobile/

    80gb - $150
    158gb - $205
    243gb - $275
    486gb - $335

They should include catch membership with every phone plan. Not that I’d jump from boost. Optus/voda have sucky coverage where I live.

  • Used Catch Connect in Katherine NT for a 3 weeks and all I get was 3G reception and H+ data network. Pretty bad. Katherine is a pretty big town and having this kind of network sucks.

  • +1

Just tried Catch for the first time this month. The reception was the worst from any Telco I have tried. 6km from the CBD in Adelaide, no reception, not a single bar (and I was at a work training day…brutal!) Kogan at least works metro. But 60km out and Kogan is useless.

Will have to try Boost when they have a one month cheap sim deal.

CAUTION: Catch Connect will keep hold of your credit card details even after you request deletion via the Catch Connect portal.

  • Switched from Kogan to Catch in the middle of the year. Constant data drop outs. It's bad.

    • I have one sim on catch and works fine

      • Are you in Sydney? It's more noticeable with data that you stream ofc.

  • I truly wonder why people are so concerned about international minutes?
If I need to talk to my parents that live overseas, I simply use WhatsApp …

Optus currently offering 120GB for $150 per year

  • This works out very cheap if you use unidays 10% off and then a gift card at 20% off.
