Belong or Telstra? I’m conflicted :/

OK minimal mobile user here. I work from home with wifi and I have a VoIP service.
Currently on Telstra Friends and Family, $10/month for 1GB data and $10 calls and texts.
Researching Belong with a $40 starter SIM currently available for $15 at Coles plus $50 credit if you port an existing number. Small plan also $10/month for 1GB but data rolls over and unlimited talk and text. Belong uses the Telstra network.
So Belong is better value but may not have the same coverage? Also not too sure what happens with 5G. Telstra don’t seem to offer iPhone deals under this plan anymore.
Would stay with Telstra for the superior network but their ham fisted customer support drives me crazy! Missed out on their recent Plus bonus points, probably because of my spend which is OK except for the misinformation and changing t&c.
So which would you go with?

      also on the Telstra network

err parts of the Telstra network.

  • I would look at Boost, but it brings its own dramas. I’m, also, on the family and friends plan and we just moved my other half onto the 6 month Telstra prepaid plan, when it was $100 instead of $150. More data, unlimited calls and text and not that much more expensive.

Currently on Telstra Friends and Family, $10/month for 1GB data and $10 calls and texts.

Boost $150 yearly plan can be had for $135 on sale, so thats $11.25/month and uses the FULL telstra network and has 80gb to use over the year, unlimited calls etc.

Aldi/belong only use PARTS of the Telstra network.

    • Guess I am lucky, its the parts that I use.

If someone is on a $10 plan with $10 of calls a month.

They can use all of the network for part of the time ($10 time a month)

Where as with belong they can use part of the network for all the time.

Now which part will be the part you need at what part of the time.

The only real way is to either cough up the extra $1.25 a month and dont worry, or by the part of the network and after a month see if you get coverage that suits you.

And of course is it worth saving $1.25 a month

        The only real way

is to look at the coverage maps for aldi/belong and compare it to the boost cover map

        https://boost.com.au/coverage-map/

        https://www.belong.com.au/mobile/coverage-map

hint, look at the QLD/NSW country areas or the nullarbor for obvious differences in coverage.

Again it depends on where you live and travel, to what works. But for $1.25 a month extra, give me the entire network and not worry about any hassles.

  • Boost 80GB per year for $135 from previous deals

  • Belong 85 GB for 6months, only $15. Boost? No way….

    STAY FAR AWAY FROM TELSTRA!!!!
If you ever have to deal with them, i feel sorry for you. You will not get any good support or service from them. their network may be better but you will end up losing out due to their bad service.

Haven't had a real problem with dealing with them. probably the person you dealt with.

i dealt with about 6 people in different departments, all had no idea. absolutly terrible service.

        • it depends on what issue you are trying to resolve.
