glass is far more eco-friendly. Infinite re-use.

For the longest time I thought the product was weird for selling green glass straws…

    • +7

Well from a safety perspective straw is better, wont shatter or penetrate your skull if you have a fall…

      • +3

Interesting. I've never fallen or seen anyone else fall on a plastic straw.

        • +8

Ever seen kids biting the straw? Imagine a kid biting into glass and it broke etc. Law suit incoming.

          • +6

@NeoX: Yeah I wouldn't buy a glass straw. So agreed there.

I just recall this same 'penetrate your skull' arguement in the stainless steel straw post.

It makes me wonder how humans survive metal utensils.

          https://www.livescience.com/65925-metal-straw-death.html

A case recently, not great especially for those with poor footing/disabilities.

I personally use a metal straw for bubble tea but only because the straw doesnt stick that far up from the plastic container.

    • Now i know how it feels like to be a cow

    • large energy input for reuse.

FWIW I like the idea of this product. I might buy it one day. But not now. Cheers anyway OP. Have an upvote.

    • Me too. My son insists on using straws and with plastic being phased out we have bought him a few stainless ones.
They seem to work well, and we just toss them in the dishwasher when they need a clean.
I like the idea of these - but if they are not infinitiely reuseable, and not quite priced to as disposable, then they don't really 'fit' anywhere.

    • I've used this style of straw before (not from this seller) and they are INFINITELY better than the terrible paper straws companies are using. I quite like them, they're very comfortable to use.

  • +3

The straws can be reused up to 3 times at home. For bigger event or commercial use we recommend single use. Our Straws are 100% chemical free, organic and home compostable.
great for hot and cold drinks
    no shatter
    gluten free
    chemical free
    come in cardboard box

  • Why is the smaller cocktail straw more expensive?

I'm no echo-warrior… but you need to consider what is knocked down for the material to be farmed, what water/energy goes into that farming, producing the product, packaging, shipping etc - the recycle/landfill is a very small part of the equation!

On a practical note - soggy straws suck.

If people don't want to use straws, why don't they just… not use them?

    • +10

We tested the straws in liquid for over 72hrs. Our Straws do not get soggy!
Farming that Type of Grass actually protects a very fragile eco-system from big industries being allowed to settle. The swampland is protected now and give millions of species room to breed.
Our Straws are farmed and cut by hand and dry for 3 days in the sun.

      "I'm no echo-warrior…"

HELLO! Hello! Hello hello ello lo lo lo…

    • +2

Because not everyone is in as a fortunate situation as you? Some people are disabled and have to drink with a straw…

If you care about the environment so much, why don't you stop eating, because everything we eat is pretty much farmed and need water…..

Also some straws are byproducts of farming such as https://www.haystraws.com/

So instead of being ignorant, educate yourself.

The sucking part is the most important aspect of a straw…

I use bamboo straws at home and re-use them.

    • How re-usable are they? I keep the bamboo chopsticks from asian takeaway, and they last forever. No sign of damage or wear.

      • Oof really? I mean I'm not sure that's the most hygienic if you using those super cheapo chopsticks you have to split apart yourself. It's not covered in any protective layer so if sauce gets soaked in it, how are you going to clean it?

        • Not the ones you split, but the ones that are separate. I wouldn't keep those ones. Tacky, even for me.

Yes, it doesn't have a protective layer, but they don't actually stain. Great for cooking too.

Bought some last time, haven't used yet

However IMHO the plastic - non-recycleable packaging that Amazon ships these in have destroyed any positive environmental impact the straws would have made

If you are considering buying these with the environment in mind, my suggestion is to by at a local store or wait until Amazon gets their act together and ditches their plastic/paper postage packs

    • +2

I'm gonna grow my own straws and if they don't suck, I'll use them as chopsticks.

    • +1

I have contacted AZ about this issue.
You can order them directly from oazis.com.au we ship in boxes

the plastic - non-recycleable packaging that Amazon ships these in have destroyed any positive environmental impact

There's really no environmental impact: plastic goes into landfill. So you seem to be espousing the benefits of nothing.

I mean whatever but if you cared about the environment climate change is a near to medium term existential threat to the human race according to NASA. For example, 70% of the world's landfill and toxic dumps are within range of sea level rises. After the water reaches these the plastic and toxic waste will be in the oceans which is a lot more plastic than what is going in to landfills now.

straws are great for people with disabilities.

Soft drink is acidic so the less contact it makes with your teeth, the better.

why not just drink from the cup or sip from the bottle????? even more eco friendly….

why not just drink from the tap or sip from the creek????? even more eco friendly….

    • You seriously can't think of a situation where this product may be of use to someone other than yourself?

  • -2

Not safe, so for those reasons I'm out.

    • +2

Interesting, why do you think Grass Straws are not safe?

      • -1

        Grass is for cows. Moo.

  • If you cut them in half that's 100 good snorting straws for the upcoming Festive Cocaine season.

  • do these use any glue or coating? - that worries me about paper

    • Thank you for mentioning your concern. Unlike paper straws- our Grass straws do not contain any kind of glue. This kind of Smapland Grass is about 2m long and hollow inside. They are simply cut and dried.
Our product is 100% natural without any chemicals or preservatives.

  • I grow my own Khanyiso reed and use it as a straw. That way I reduce my carbon footprint because shipping grass straws from Vietnam is very bad for the environment. I can just feel the global temperature rising with every batch that comes over the ocean in those flying carbon-spewing machines. Just as bad those boats made from metallurgical coal. I'm getting carbon rage here. How dare you. You lot have stolen my dreams and my middle-age-hood with your fake eco-friendly straws.

Okay. I've calmed down now and feeling zen. I know I can sit back and wait for someone to out-woke me.

    • i think this is a joke, but if you really have one of those plants i'd be interested in buying a division
